Contract is a Scam

I wanted to pay monthly since I was in Raleigh for an internship, but was told I could only sign a contract which was not true. When I left, I froze my membership but was never told that after a certain amount of time my account would be charged the full amount of the memebership. The manager said he would cancel my memebership for free and when I was charged the next month, I called back and the manager said that he never said that. The staff is rude and do not explian there policies. This place is a SCAM!!!!

The employees were rude. I hated my experience at planet beach and wouldn't suggest it to anyone else! i have never seen "proffessionals" handle themselves that way!

BEWARE!!!

I signed up last year around July 1st. They made it clear that you were to sign a EFT contract or else. I did convince them that I would only sign up for a year. The price immediately went up $5.00 per month. Well, I changed jobs and no longer went past this location anymore. I continued to pay monthly fees because you can only freeze the account if you go in and sign paperwork. (Palm Beach never made me do this!) I didn't go for months and then last month decided to go back. I paid all my fees thorough my contract end. That's where the trouble began. The owner at BC location input the info incorrectly. Then I went to the location at Edwards Mill to use my contract-they gave me the biggest hassle. I spent a lot of time and energy trying to figure out reciprocal and non-reciprocal contracts and being told basically that even though I paid money through June-I couldn't tan. I am talking like $200. They have given me the run around at both locations and corporate office. No one wants to give me my money back. I couldn't be more disappointed with this company as a whole!

Beware - contract scam, started good ended really badly!

I joined Planet Beach at Southpoint when it first opened and had a really positive experience the first year I used my membership. Everyone was really nice and I had no issues whatsoever, I was a happy camper! But last year, I had surgery and was told not to tan as it would make my scars very red. And when I tried to cancel, I started getting mixed messages from staff. So I "froze" my membership per the advice of one staffer. Later I called to cancel and was told to stop by and sign a paper again. I thought I had effectively canceled my membership and was surprised when new monthly charges showed up on my Amex. I called the store to discuss, expecting the same helpful friendly service I'd received (even if a little confused) in the past, and was treated with outright contempt. I followed the instructions given me to email the manager (which I did) but my phone rang shortly after my first call and it was the manager. He was really insulting from the start and granted I therefore got defensive as he was basically saying I had lied about the cancellation, etc. It was a really nasty experience and I've reported it to Amex just in case charges show up again. I wouldn't recommend that Planet Beach to anyone and I feel that I got scammed out of $95 worth of charges I won't be able to recover, plus insulted over the phone. Go somewhere else, where they want your business and deliver good customer service.

BEWARE of the CONTRACT

Make sure you read the fine print of the contract and get several employees to confirm everything regarding policies. I became a member in 2008 (with a two-year contract). I was told that I could just let them know when I want to freeze the account (as long as it was by a particular date) and it would be put on hold. I just had to let them know when to remove it from hold. I was also told that I could cancel at anytime for $50. I was being signed up by a new employee (which is no longer with the store). I didn't realize that she was not informing me properly. I travel a lot for work and knew I was going to be out of the country for several months. I called and talked to the manager. He said I have to sign a form stating I was going to freeze my account (which I was never told). I explained to him that I was leaving the country and wouldn't be able to stop by the location to sign. He said he would take care of it and he did. However, he only froze my account for one month. Never was it explained that it was only going to be but on hold for ONLY one month. I had been traveling and after getting settled back in town noticed that my bank account had been charge the full monthly fee for two months. I called immediately and found it was only put on hold for one month and that the new hold policy was only three months per request. I do not know why it was only put on hold for one month. I spoke to the manager (the same one I had originally spoken to) - he spoke with the owner. I called the headquarters. The only solution was that they would give me back half of what was taken. HALF!!! I don't understand why I was being penalized for employee mistakes. 1 - they need to make sure the employees are explaining the contracts properly, 2 - I did not use the service for those two months, I should have received a full refund BEWARE OF THE CONTRACT, 3 - two monthly fees ($80) and an additional $50 to cancel - so in total I paid $130 to cancel my contract.

Great place to go. Clean, attentive, reasonable in price. The people are nice and very helpful if you ask. I would recommend them if you in the market for tanning. They offer many different types of tanning and many more different types of plans for payments and numbers of time used. It is good for just about anyone.

they will do anything to get you to sign a contract....they are liars and do NOT honor their word!!! They told me to fill out a form to tan and the next thing I know I am getting charged monthly and in a 2yr contract!! There is NO customer service....they DO NOT care about the customer after they get your money!! If you do have a problem forget any customer service, especially from the owner....I will never recommend this place!! Please beware...

Of course I was upset, and I did say my husband would be upset as well because my credit card was declined the day I came in the store and then billed when there was money in my account (as a result I got several overdrafts on my account)

Jenny NEVER said anything about a 2yr contract...we only talked about a 1yr contract but because my card was declined I assume what I had signed was voided.
She had the paper work with my credit card info, I had to leave the store but said I would try to come back with cash or another card!! Sounded like to me we would have to fill out another form when I came back. I was not able to return so 2 days later Jenny called back asking if I was still interested in tanning and my form was still LAYING around with my credit card info. I advised her to just rip it up and she said she would.
2 weeks later I notice my card had been charged twice. So when I went in to the store, Jenny remembered me and our conversation..said she would call the owner and TAKE CARE of this for me. She went in the back to call the owner, came back and said sorry, they advised you signed a contract and they will maybe cancel it and waive the 50.00 fee.
The manager did NOT honor her word......period!!! Customer service is so important today and everyday....the customer should ALWAYS be treated with respect......they are YOUR bread and butter!

I went to Planet Beach in Brier Creek VERY frustrated ! I have a medical condition that required me to either take chemo for a second time or to give a shot at tanning. When I arrived there nervous and scared because tanning was not something that I had ever done or believed in, one of the owners was there to lend a very kind hand. I was given pros and cons to tanning, they understood my situation and they were very educated ! WOW that was incredible I would have never thought that someone would have understood me and took the time to help me make the right decision for me and my health. When stepping back and considering the other option it was going to be NO more expensive for me to go there and tan than it was for me to go visit the doctor every month and pay for chemo. I have had the chance to get to know everyone there to the point that I know a little about each of them.... and what a great staff they have there !!!!! They are always kind, helpful, and willing to answer any questions that I may have. And address my concerns immediately. Way to go Planet Beach (Brier Creek) ! Keep up the good... hard work :)

This place is a joke

I will never go a Planet Beach again. I tried out the one down the road from Crabtree. The prices were a bit higher than most places. Staff was ok. It was busy though. They wouldn't let me make appointments that were convenient with my schedule. I tried the Planet Beach at Brier Creek. The staff was very pushy and they tried to get as much money out of me as they could. They weren't listening to my needs. They tried to sell me something that was 80 bucks a month for TWO years. I just needed a little color for a trip i was going on with a few of my girlfriends. They did not mention any other way of tanning except for these two year memberships. NOT IN THIS ECONOMY. I knew i could get just a few sessions because the crabtree location informed me of this. They are liars and scammers. The owner is very rude as well. HORRIBLE customer service, way overpriced, non-welcoming atmosphere, and the beds always had fingerprints all over the top of them.

Never will I go to a Planet Beach Tanning Salon, nor will any of my friends. I had the same exact problem as others . When it comes to there contracts, they are shady. They tell you if you ever want to freeze your account that it's only $5,....but they only do it for one month. Then, they charge you $60 a month after that one month rather you're around to use it or not. So I went back in and chose to cancel and pay the $50 fee to do so. I finally thought I was done after canceling with them. But oh, no, I check my credit report and they sent $450 to a collection agency. They said I signed up for a year and never paid the last couple of months! That's bc I canceled with them!!!! Plus they have no record of me cancelling,.....how suiting for them! They said I was done and good to go. But apparently not. Bc now I'm out $450 for only using about 2-3 months of tanning.
Do not go here, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else where the contracts are waaaaay more reasonable. They do anything to get your money, and forget important details......or don't cancel your account all together, even when they've been paid to do so!
Oh yeah, and they only got one star by me,...bc zero isn't an option

Beds were nice, prices ridiculous

I moved to Raleigh a few months ago to the Brier Creek are and was excited to know a tanning salon was so close to me. I went in and tried out the beds and they were great. But when I asked how much the packages were I couldn't believe it. I moved here from Chicago, and even tanning out there isn't this ridiculous! I found a tanning salon around the corner with beds that aren't as crazy looking, but the quality is just as great and the price is HALF. If you don't mind shelling out an insane amount of money to stand inline for a spaceship looking bed this place is great, but shop around, you will find places just as good for a fraction of the price. This place s a chain, so of course they are going to charge you an arm and a leg.

Highly Recommend

I went in for the first time Sept 14th and was greeted immediately by a smiling attendant. She helped me the entire time I was in there. I tried the Spa Bed, then a bed that gave me a facial then I went into the Mystic Spray Tan booth. It was so relaxing! I loved it. My skin looked so good after the treatments. It made my skin much softer and took the stress of the day way. The cost was way cheaper then where I was going. I highly recommend this place!

Went to Planet Beach to inquire about their packages and the clerk was quick to push the EFT membership on me, ?If you sign up as a member you?ll have monthly tanning for ? the price, all you have to do is pay the $70 initial membership fee.? Explained I did NOT want them to automatically draft my checking account for this membership, which she stated ?no problem just call us by the 25th of every month to renew.? After tanning for 1 month I was surprised to see an automatic draft from my debit account for $39.95. I didn?t sweat the charge since I thought I could probably use one more month of tanning. No big deal, I?ll just cancel my membership the following month since I?m moving anyway. Went to the store last week to cancel my membership and was told I would have to pay a $50 cancellation fee, along with another $5 to freeze my account (it takes them 30 DAYS to cancel a membership)! Looking back at my contract I noticed this was written in FINE PRINT, but when I originally signed up the eager clerk NEVER explained the terms of the contract: 24 mo. membership fee (who on earth tans for 2 years every month), automatic debit from your checking, $5 a month to freeze your account (which is not applied to in store credit, other local tanning salons allow you to do so), $50 cancellation fee and a 30 day notice to cancel. I don?t thrive on confrontation and am not one of those people to yell at an employee of a store to get what I want. I simply explained I was cheated into this contract and didn?t think it was fair for me to have to pay the $50+ cancellation fee. The clerk who didn?t explain the contract should pay at least ? of my fee. They wouldn?t budge and kept saying ?it?s in the contract.? Yes you have that contract to protect you but wrongfully cheating your customers will only get you but so far in the business world. To get out of my contract I just paid a portion of their electric bill, $65 out of pocket. Don?t trust these people, they are sneaky to get your $.

I have been especially impressed by the visability, kindness and professionalism of the owners. They have always treated me as though I mattered - not just as a client but as a person. I've been a member since they first opened the store in Brier Creek. I now tan at the North Raleigh location. I've had a great experience with all the personnel at both locations. Once there was some confusion over my account and billing and I found the staff and ownership eager to help me resolve it. They were great!!!

Be very very cautious

i will never ever ever go back to this tanning salon. they turned me into collection for $300. apparently the card that i used to sign up with wouldnt work anymore, so instead of contacting me and letting me know, they let it build up and then turned it over. when i called to ask questions regarding this matter, she said that it is a courtesy from them to let me know, so its not there problem if the card wouldnt work anymore. i told her she would not get the money and i would rather it affect my credit than to have to pay those sorry losers. plus every time i went in there the girls were rude.

Best Tanning Salon

I have tried several tanning establishments in the Raleigh area and I'm extremely happy with Planet Beach in Brier Creek. From the moment you walk in the door , you're greeted by the friendly and professional staff. On my first visit I was escorted and explained the various tanning beds and skin and tan enhancement treatments available. My first impression was how knowledgeable the staff is, and also the cleanliness of the entire facility. After my tour I was questioned about my tanning expectations and advised on lotions and moisturizers to accomplish my goals. I am so pleased with my tanning results that I have purchased a years membership with Planet Beach. I travel with my job so I cannot always make appointments in advance, but the the flexible hours of operation and the accomodating staff have always been able to fit me in. Again I cannot say enough about the wonderful people at Planet Beach in Brier Creek. They make me feel special and appreciated each and every visit.

I highly recommend Planet Beach to anyone interested in quality product(s) and service! I had been a member of a competing local tanning "salon" since about 1994 and never found anything that surpassed them until I went to Planet beach for the first time; at the recommendation of a friend. I walked in and was greeted by very friendly and professional staff. I am a very picky to say the least and asked a lot of questions during my first visit and I wanted to see EVERY type of bed they had, how they worked, etc. The staff were incredible!! They answered all of my questions and actually took me to each different type of tanning bed and demonstrated how it worked and how to get the best results from each bed or by rotating the use of beds, depending on what you wanted to accomplish during your sessions. I had a lot of questions about products as I have very sensitive skin, again the staff took the time to answer all of these questions with a lot of knowledge about their products and helped me select what was best for me to use. I was very impressed that the product suggested was one of the LEAST expensive one's they stocked. After my initial visit, I bought a package deal to give myself time to decide what I would do next, would I go back to my "old" place or would I switch? Needless to say, I switched, after over almost 12 years at one place. Planet Beach had exceeded any and all expectations I ever dreamed of, quality service, quality products, and the best staff in the business. The atmosphere is comfortable with the upscale surroundings I like but for the most reasonable prices you'll find anywhere. If you haven't stopped by to check them out I highly recommend you do, I feel confident you will have a great experience. Whether it's relaxing in the hydration station or using the newest in high pressue beds..you will not find better service, products, or friendlier staff to make sure you are a satisfied consumer. Planet Beach and the staff are the BEST!!

The Best Customer Service!

I've been going to Planet Beach for about a month now. Besides the beds being great the customer service is outstanding!! They always remember my name when I walk in the door and no other tanning place that I've been to does that. They take appointments or walkins and do a good job with getting everyone in quickly. I HIGHLY reccomend it.

Top of the line beds, alright customer service.

I started using Planet Beach at Brier Creek several weeks ago. This is my first year sunless tanning, and the only salon I have used thus far. I started with the 3 free tans, used one, and then bought a 10 session package, and am now down to one session left. The question: will I be buying a membership or another set of sessions? The beds are great, I have gotten wonderful results and I am thrilled with the color I have gained. MOST of the employees are very nice and helpful, however, there are a couple that always seem snooty and are aggressive about pushing their product. I do not mind being asked "do you need any lotion today?" but someone TELLING me "oh, you're going to need to buy more lotion..." is a little pushy to me. I think I know how much lotion I've got, lady, thanks. Anyway. The atmosphere is nice, I don't make appointments but I don't usually have to wait and if I do, it's not for very long. It is always clean and I love the radios they have built into the beds. So, yes, I do believe I will be buying at least another 10 sessions but some of the girls there need to take the stick out of their butt, to put it nicely.

Planet Beach is a very put-together tanning salon. Its nice inside and the beds have given me good results. The new highpressure bed is nothing like i have ever see, i didnt know a tanning bed could even be designed like this! Now thats its getting into march, the wait time has slightly picked up, so i definetely recommend calling ahead of time to make an apppointment, but other than that, this salon receives an A+ in my book.

I really liked this place! The ambiance was very nice and clean and I liked how I was shown around to see all of their tanning beds during my first visit. Their beds were the nicest I've seen and they have equipment I've never seen before, and I am a tanning pro. The customer service was great and was very personable. I've been to this salon several times and always have a consistently pleasant experience.

Not very friendly

I printed out the free 3 sessions and went in to try out their beds. The lady was knowledgeable about tanning but when I said I wasn't going to buy a package she turned very bitter and not so friendly any more. I will not be going back because of how much pressure she put on me for buying products and tanning packages.

Love the mystic tan

I really love spray tan. It's nice to have a healthy option. I have leaned to cover my hands and feet totally. They end up white, but not orange. It takes a few times to get your stance just right, but it's worth it. I usually go once a week and I feel like that's enough to keep me looking tan without getting to dark or orangey. people tell me I look like I have a natural tan

I have tanned in many Planet Beach Salons and Brier Creek has a SUPERB staff!! I love entering the salon to tan and have the staff greet me by name!! I feel at home and very comfortable. I use the Platinum beds and the Mystic tan! Hurry and try Brier Creek out or the locations closest to you.

The Best EVER!!!

This salon is the best tanning salon I've ever been to. The customer service is great and everyone there is so nice and really goes out of their way to know your name. I don't even know how they are able to do it with all the people in there! But they never forget who I am. They make me feel like we are all friends. The tanning beds are the best in town. I get great color and the beds are so comfortable. It is also really clean and very high-end inside. I have recommended this salon to all of my friends that tan (and even to the ones that don't tan, but use the Mystic spray tan). If you want a great tan and great customer service in a clean enviroment and to be treated special, go to this place.
