Worst hospital I have ever been to. My friend paid 300 dollars out of her own pocket to go in to get a check-up. She is currently 8 months pregnant and all they did was check the babies heartbeat. She has been suffering from a lot of pain, hasn't slept in days and they tell her to come back in a few weeks for another check up. They do this to her EVERY time. They have never given her any further tests or anything. Do not go to this hospital, these doctors don't care about their patients.

This review is for the hospital, not for any individual physician. I received treatment twice at this hospital, in November 2011 and again, as a follow-up, in approximately April 2012. The treatment portion was fine, and the medical staff was courteous. The medical staff is clearly making some effort to strengthen its customer service orientation, as there is someone on staff who visits every patient to ask how the medical service was and listen to any concerns. So for a scheduled treatment based on my limited experience, I would recommend Mt Sinai.

HOWEVER... On both occasions that I was there, I asked the administration people to check the billing address on file for me. In November, I changed an outdated address. In April, I asked again, and it was still the outdated address and I asked them to change it again. They assured me they did. Why does all this matter? Because in June 2012, after hearing absolutely nothing from the hospital regarding any billing issues (I have a good insurance so that didn't surprise me), I get a letter from a collection agency regarding my November 2011, stating that my account is in DEFAULT (all caps in the letter) and threatening further action. So on a Saturday I call and they don't answer, only open Monday-Friday until 4:30PM.

Good medical service starts, in my opinion, from the moment you call to make the first appointment. It ends when the bill has been settled. On this count, Mt Sinai fails. Putting my credit score at risk because I choose to be seen at Mt Sinai is enough to make me look elsewhere.

One Sunday, my boyfriend and I were sharing some time with a friend of ours, a couple from Venezuela, when she suddenly fainted. Scare and disconcerted, we ran to the Mount Sinai on Alton Rd since I have my gynecologist there. However, I should have assumed that the services are not very professional in that place since I haven not received the attention needed, so pretty much non one has cared. So anyway, that is another story. We took my friend to the emergency room in which did not want to attend us. They told us to sit down, and my friend was out, vomiting, and convulsing. When we finally went inside, forty five minutes later, the whole team is unprofessional. No one knows what to do, nurses are very slow, you pretty much have to chase them to get attention. They did not do a basic blood test (I don't know why since we asked for it many times). When they finally did it, eight hours later, they realized that they had been doing the wrong treatment. Then they gave her a room, and we stay there for a week. The experience at the hospital was better, but not satisfactory at all.

I went to Mt. Sinai about a year ago for a terrible acute pain in my stomach (I thought my appendix had burst at the time). My roommate drove me to the hospital as I was writhing in pain. When I got to the hospital I proceeded to wait about 2 hours while in agonizing pain, when finally a nurse came and asked me a bunch of routine questions totally unrelated to the fact that I thought I was going to die from a burst appendix. After answering the same questions two more times to two other nurses, I was finally seen for a doctor who asked me the same questions again. Then they gave me an MRI and sent me on my way with a diagnosis of kidney stones. I had given the hospital all my insurance information at the hospital (which was willing to cover me, minus my 400 dollar deductible) and the hospital decided they didn't feel like filing any claims for my bills, and decided to inform me by sending a collection agency after me for 15 thousand dollars. After dozens of phone calls and giving them my insurance information over and over again the radiology department still refuses to file a claim (they say they will over the phone and never do). I still get bill collection letters from these crooks. Hey Mt. Sinai... F*** you!!!

My Mother in Law ( a founder of this hospital ) went in for a "bandaid" outpatient surgery while we were out of town. There were complications and she was admitted for a three day stay where she contracted an infection, breathing problems and a fever. After three days her doctor released her with the fever and congestion saying that he could not justify her staying to medicare - even though she has private insurance and can afford any care she requires. The next day a home healthcare nurse came to her home and found that she had an extremely high heart rate, very low oxygen levels and possibly pneumonia. She was taken by ambulance back to the hospital. ER and the ER doctors were very good and stabilized her quickly. They found that she had pneumonia, and a heart attack. This was within 24 hours of being released with a fever and congestion. She was admitted to ICU for three days where they could not provide a heating pad (it was broken) or a heating blanket (sorry we are all out) in a freezing cold room. Now four days into a tiny semi private room with no hot water in the bathroom, worn out, broken down and patched up equipment and facilities, bad and sometimes non-exisitent communication between staff and some of her doctors, as well as outdated practices, make us realize that this is not the Hospital that it once was. Our only hope is that she will regain her health and the quality of life she had less than 10 days ago. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL unless it is an extreme emergency if you expect quality care and a reasonable outcome.

Absolutely Horrible!!! My brother has been diagnosed with Lupus for 8 years and only goes to the ER when he knows something is wrong. He went last night because he was in a terrible amount of pain. When he finally got in the put him in ER-H which is a hall for homeless people. The doctor was the rudest thing ever encountered telling him they can't do anything for him. Ahhhh!!! He sat in pain for 5 hours and finally a nurse came to check on him and then he was finally admitted. He has insurance and a terminal illness WTF. I need to call someone about this!!

I had 3 months old with High Fever, I get there at 6:30am I wait in a room until 7:30am and nobody gives me any medication or any Doctor came by, around 7:20am an administration persone came to sing the "permission and Insurance form" I told them: "I wont sign anything until a doctor can see my baby!@!!", never came by I left at 7:45am and 2 of the nurses just came to me to tell me "YOU HAVE TO SIGN SOME FORMS", I said "WHAT?"; that's they are worry about....forms, to charge me....; My baby Thanks God" is fine today, but it could be a Meningitis, finally we went to his pediatrician (at 8am was open) they transfered my Emergency to Miami Children's Hospital. I don't recomment to any one take your child at this emergency even if is the closest.

My daughter and her friend went in after feeling like someone put something into their drink (first drink and SITTING at the bar) and they were treated very rudely, staff seemed very unprofessional and uncaring. Put the girls in a room and basically left them there.....spent 2.5 hours there, received nothing and I'll probably see a huge bill.

The doctors are excellent (most) Nurses were absolutely lazy and uncaring.

Between family members have been in that hospital in and out over 4 years.

If it were not for the doctors I would not put my dog in Mt. Sinai.

Had 2 experiences. First my friend had a baby there and the second was my emergency room visit. The birth was not at all satisfactory. Her epidural did not work, her doctor came in 10 minutes before birth. Rooms are tiny tiny, very noisy. Staff NOT helpful for anything.
My emergency room visit was a nightmare, I waited TWO AND HALF HOURS doubled over in pain waiting and waiting while crying from pain the whole time. Finally got in and was put through unnecessary tests. It was one in the morning when I finally got out of that hellish place. They told me to see an oncologist which took another 10 years off of my life. Result? Nothing but ridiculous bills!!NEVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. It is run down, old and no none cares a penny worth for the patient.

I had to help and stay with my friend while she was in this hospital. The nurses provided no care, ignored her when she requested meds and didn't help her when she needed to change gowns. The dirty gowns stayed on the bathroom floor for two days. They didn't clean the room until I pitched a fit and had already cleaned up the vomit myself twice. If you want good care at Mt. Sinai, you had better bring a friend or family member with you!

I've been to the emergency three times and had one surgery at this hospital. I got very good in a timely manner in the emergency room. I was given very good care by the staff and doctors. The hospital room was very small. The food was awful. They do not have vegan healthy options.

I visited Mt Sinai hospital to see my sick grandfather. They were so helpful and caring to him. They treated him with a great amount of respect. The hospital itself, looks luxurious, with beautiful decor all around. It's not just any ordinary hospital, it's very unique. Although most of us, if not all of us, don't want to be stuck in a hospital, this hospital makes the stay much mroe pleasant. This is a hospital where one feels at home, one feels comfort. The stay was pretty expensive, but in times like these its a price worth paying

PROS: very elegant hospital, caring staff
CONS: high price

Unfortunately many of us have to spend some time in a hospital for various reasons.
Mt Sinai on Miami Beach has seen me as a patient for the good and bad..When I had my daughter there it was a dream when I had my back surgery it was a nightmare...

But in both cases the care I recieved was top notch with a good nursing staff and true professionalism. My only complaint was a few nutty patients who screamed all night but I guess that can be expected anywhere.

Hopefully a return trip wont be necessary but if it is I know I will get the best care possible

PROS: Good nursing staff
CONS: Noisy patients
