We really like this attraction. We took the VIP tours so we could surpass the lines and not wait for hours. I think we were up and down in less then one hour that way. It was nice to see all the sights up there.. people can be rude but I guess after waiting all that time I would get grumpy also. .. anyway there is a nice but crowded gift shop at he top.

If we had any idea that it was going to take such a long time to get up there, we never would have bothered. You get out of one room and line just to enter another one. Not to mention the pushy people trying to sell things. When you finally do get up there, it's too crowded anyway. And then to top it off when you're ready to leave, you have to get in another long line to go down. We actually walked down eight flights of stairs to save some time. And trust me, at that point we were glad to do it. Save yourself and money. Do something else.

One of the tallest buildings in New York and always the center of attraction in cinematography is the Empire State Building. It is here where King Kong climbed to the top and battled soaring planes. The view from the top of the Empire is absolutely spectacular and breath taking. I think the best sight is at night when all the lights are bright lighting up the sky. At least at that time also you will be avoiding most of the tourists.

The Empire State Building is one of the first things you must do when you visit New York. The views are amazing and you can really get a feel for the layout of the city. I even suggest going twice - once at night and once during the day. The biggest drawback is the line. During peak tourist times the line can last for hours! Try to visit during the week and in the late afternoon. Also, the winter is not the best time to visit as it is very cold and windy that high up! Overall, this site is worth every penny. I would pass on the 3-D movie though, its not worth it.

This is a place you should atleast go once while in New York, its a sight seeing tour of the world famous Empire State Building. I found it be interesting and informative, there was alot to see and overall, I thought it was a pretty good tour and I would recommend it to others who want to see all the most famous places that are located in New York City.

There is no doubt that the view is incredible from the observation deck, but I'll subtract a star for (1) the bad attitudes of the staff, (2) the incredibly long line to get in, even on a weekday, and (3) the $14 price tag.

PROS: Great view
CONS: staff attitudes, line, price

The Line is longer than you think--they divide it into different rooms so noone knows how long it really is. Please note that the only time you pass people coming out, they have an employee stationed there whos only job is to get those people to smile. If the observation deck is closed, forget it, for what should be observation rooms indoors are filled with two(!) gift shops. Expect a very hard sell on the recorded tour (we didn't try them) but there are kiosks on top that tells you what the skyline sights are, anyways. There's even a cattle-line to leave! (they have to hard-sell you on the mandatory photo they took). And be sure to smile on the way down as you pass the schmucks coming up.

Why would anyone go to New York and not go up in the Empire State Building? The view was fantastic and worth the wait. We went at night and the lights were amazing. The Chrysler Building is beautiful from above. If it isn't a summer month, take a coat because it's pretty cold that far up in the air. The wait was long, the line snaking through the building for what seemed like forever but when you finally arrived the wait was forgotten. Go by the building a few times and watch for short lines. There are times when your wait will be very short but there are other times when the line curls around the building. If that's the case use the restroom first because there are no opportunities to go after you get in line. The gift shop had souveniers for everyone and the prices weren't too bad. It's a must see.

At night , when I see the glow of the Red, White and Blue lights beaming up above the city it makes me remember the visits I have taken to that very top of this incredible building. One of the tallest skyscrapers in the world it truly is a sight to behold..There are two observatories you can go to, one, on the 86th floor and another on the 102 nd floor..I prefer the lower one with more space to walk around..Bring plenty of change for the coin operated viewers...with these you can see details of nearly everything in the city.

I especially love to look at the Chrysler building from up there, another of my favorite buildings..But look out, water on both sides, Yes, Manhatten is truly an island, and one remarkable one at that!

It's worth the wait if the line is long and it always is but it does move quickly..And the elevators feel like they are flying straight up..A strange sensation that adds to the ambiance of your visit

PROS: Sights to behold from the top..Simply awesome
CONS: Long lines but they do move rather quickly

You just can't go to New York without going to the top of the Empire State Building. The wait in the long line was fine because it kept moving at a decent speed. ONce to the top, the view was spectacular, even on a hazy day like the one we had. I would highly recommend renting the audio tour part so you know what you're looking at.

Ok, you simplay cannot miss the Empire State Building in Manhattan, it's a landmark everyone uses. However, you simply must go to the observation tower. It is worth the money, and worth the wait in line. Even ifyou don't want to reinact the scene from Sleepless in Seattle, you get amazing views of the city, and parts of New Jersey. Do not forget your camera, and your binoculars. Also, beware of the wind, you are above the entire city, and it does get windy!

If you do have two hours to kill, the view from the observatory is great - I could even see my home on the upper west side. Times Square and the major NY areas look amazing from up that high. However, I went with my family in November and it was downright freezing out there and after waiting so long we only stayed a few minutes. It's all about the experience though right? I recommend not going on a weekend (let alone a holiday weekend!) or at night and you have a good shot of getting up there in a short period of time.

PROS: Great view, fun experience if you aren't in a hurry
CONS: Long wait, kind of expensive

You might be tempted at some point to drudge over to midtown to make it to the Empire State Building and go to the observatory for the fantastic view. Don't do it. It takes two hours in a hot stuffy waiting room before you get close to going up, and each ticket costs $14.00 for adults. And you can spend maybe 15 minutes up there before you exhaust the wonder and go back down. Just go see a movie instead and buy an Empire State Building view postcard. It will be cheaper and far more rewarding.
