Food was good, not crowded, service was good.
Big portion of the food and nice people.
However, even though it might look cozy, it's not at the best shpae.

This funky-yellow cafe located near the Shaw/Howard Metro stop offers all sorts of goodness. Menu items such as Nelson Mandela Chicken illustrate Mawonaj's heavy African influence, and the soul food is incredible. Make sure to try the grilled fish and a side of the plantains.

Mawonaj also hosts a variety of artistic events, including film screenings, poetry readings, and hip-hop events.

PROS: A great vibe.
CONS: Service is often very slow.
