Dr. Jan Rydfors, ob/gyn

Dr Rydfors is the best. He has an european vision of health. He is honest and rigorous. He doesn't do his job for money ans he is an open-minded doctor, because he believes in acuponcture. You can write him emails and he will answer very quickly.He speaks french. You can trust him. He takes time to speak with you.His assistants are very nice .

I first saw Dr. Rydfors in 1995 a few weeks before I got married. I came back to see him when I was having complications with my pregnancy after having lost two children prior as a result of an incompetent cervix.

At that time I was distraught over my losses. He took time and care in reviewing my health condition and he was very open and honest with me about my proposed treatment. He even supported and recommended a second opinion from a colleague at Stanford and finally weekly home nursing visits.

During a routine visit and more than 6 weeks before I was expected to deliver, he diagnosed that I was having problems with premature labor and immediately had me admitted to the hospital. For almost 3 weeks I lay in the hospital in pain and discomfort and being anything but pleasant, due to all of the evaluations, blood pressure tests, temperature checks, vaginal exams, etc. Through all of my unpleasantries Dr. Rydfors remained amazingly patient and calm.

In these times, when we feel that we typically receive very little personal attention from our medical providers, Dr. Rydfors not only took time with me, he got to know me, and my husband.

By the grace of God, along with skill and competence of Dr. Rydfors, 10 years ago I delivered my 5lb little bundle of joy, 6 weeks early, but healthy and thriving. I have been and will forever be grateful to Dr. Jan Rydfors.

Since that time I moved briefly to New York City but still scheduled appointments in California with Dr. Rydfors because I didn't trust my well being to any other OB/GYN. I followed him from Palo Alto Medical Foundation to Palo Alto and then finally to his present partnership with Dr. Toig in Redwood City, who was ironically my first OB/GYN provider more than 20 years ago when I first moved to the Bay area.

I have now relocated to the Chicagoland area, and looking to start a family again (which is an option that I would not have, if it weren't for Dr. Rydfors' advice and care)... I only wish it wasn't so far between Chicago and San Francisco, otherwise I would still be utilizing Dr Rydfors as my OB/GYN of choice... I consider him not only a very caring, competent and skillful physician, he is a good man as well.

I miss him terribly... and I'm making it very clear to my recently chosen GYN specialist that he has some very big shoes to fill. :-)

I had a high risk pregnancy in 2003 and Dr. Rydfors saw me every week. He was never in a rush and always took the time to talk to us and reassure us about the progress of our baby. The nurses over at Stanford love him too. One of them said his nickname is "Teddy Bear Head". I would recommend him to anyone who is or wants to get pregnant.

My husband and I have been blessed with two beautiful babies (now 4yrs old and 18 mths) because of Dr. Rydfors excellent physician skills. He was reccommended to us by my family doctor because of having difficulty in conceiving. My husband and I both appreciated how he took the time to explain our options from least invasive to most invasive procedures (and cost too) - always allowing us to set the pace. We felt we were in the right hands, even though it took us awhile to become pregnant. Once we had our first child, we were back to him for our next one. He felt like family and we miss him. It feels strange to have seen someone for so many years, years of hope, disapointment and joy, and then to no longer have that contact. If anyone is having difficulty with getting pregnant, I highly, without question, recommend this wonderful doctor/friend.

I found Dr. Rydfors through a local midwifery website and I can't say enough about how happy I am with him and the care he has shown during my pregnancy.

I have a history of obstetrical difficulties, miscarriage, uterine abnormalities, problems with ovarian cysts, etc. I had switched from Kaiser, because I didn't feel I was getting the specialized care I would need and I am glad I did.

Dr. Rydfors practices evidence based medicine and provides just the right amount of intervention necessary. He is up to date on all of the most recent studies and makes me feel like I am 100% involved in the decisions made with my pregnancy.

I appreciate the fact that he views childbirth as something that women can handle with minimal intervention, but that he has the expertise to provide that necessary intervention if needed.

He encourages a family work with a doula and respects midwives. Something not too common in many doctors.

I've had a very high risk pregnancy, and have needed to be seen weekly since 20 weeks, but he never rushes me or makes me feel like I'm just another patient. He takes the time to listen to my questions, check in and make sure I'm doing okay, and I feel that he's very invested in making sure my baby gets here safely. Oh, and one thing that really told me that my instincts are right is that every labor and delivery nurse I"ve spoken to can't say enough great things about him and love to work with him--this speaks volumes in my opinion.
