Debauve and Gallais are French chocolate geniuses who have finally opened up in New York City. They have in my opinion the best Dark Chocolate in the City. The store is small but beautiful, it looks something like a boutique or maybe a chateaus drawing room and I have yet to purchase a bad piece of chocolate. I've dealt with a couple of young women who work there and they have always been kind and helpful. If you're on the East Side, maye wandering up Madison after shopping at Barneys you should give this place a look.

PROS: great chocolate
CONS: a bit expensive, closed Sundays

This store is probably the oldest continuous chocolate shop in the world. They started in Paris over 200 years ago and are still rolling strong. The chocolates are amazing although a bit pricey here in their New York City shop. The shop is nicely decorated and the sefvice is top notch. A pleasurable place to shop.
