I purchased The Punchline gift certificates on November 15 at work. I made reservations for 8 of us to attend the comedy show on Friday, November 26, since we could not be together on Thanksgiving. My son and his girlfriend come in from South Carolina on Friday and we met up with my step-daughter and her fianc who were headed to Texas the next morning for 12 weeks.

Upon arrival at the Punchline we were seated at the front table, which I had requested when making the reservations. Our drink order was taken and delivered by a very sweet waitress. The club was at half capacity. The opening comedian performed for about 10 minutes. During his performance my son and the comedian heckled back and forth. He was hilarious and all had a good laugh. I wish I knew his name.

The next act Mike Speenberg arrived and performed for about 5 minutes when my son's girlfriend got up to go to the ladies room. My son turned sideways to say something to his step-sister who was sitting next to him and out of the blue the comedian said he was not going to perform anymore until my son was removed. We thought this was part of the act but because this comedian was not interacting with anyone in the audience we weren't sure. The comedian sat down on his stool and said "I'm serious. I'm not going on with the show until this guy leaves." Our mouths dropped. We knew then he was serious. Security came over and said my son had to leave, which we got up and were escorted to the back. The waitress approached and asked what happed. We told her what transpired to this point and that we really did not know what the issue was. She said she was going to get the manager.

The manager came out and after much discussion said that my son must have been really loud or the comedian Mike Speenberg must not have liked my son's backed turned on him, (actually the way the tables are set up, it would have been his side towards the stage). I informed her that my husband and I were sitting directly across from my son and could not hear a word he was saying. We offered to stay in the back until the next comedian. We were told that all the comedians stick together on ??stuff like this?. ?? I still want to know what the ??stuff like this? is. The manager was very apologetic and offered us our money back or additional tickets for a return. We told her we would take the refund because we would not be back and take the chance of getting kicked out again for reasons unknown. I worked so hard to get everyone together for this night and this was very embarrassing.

Oh....because I bought my tickets through a company that came to my work place, the Punchline was unable to give me a refund. We would have spent a lot of money that night....our first round or drinks with tip came to about $90. Hope the comedian made up for it.

I had the WORST experience ever at the Punchline!!! The staff was very rude and unaccommodating!! Me and 9 other girls went for a bachelorette party and were treated terribly!! i guess we stuck out slightly since we were a group of girls but we sat in the back and watched and the show like everyone else there. The comedians that night were not very funny at all so none of were really cutting up and laughing. For some reason though the security guys kept coming over and yelling at us for being loud and disruptive which we were not like i said!! Everyone else in the place was screaming and hollering out at the comedians except for our group but somehow we were kicked out of the place!! None of us really cared too much since the place was not all that great anyways and we fought to get our money back!! I don't suggest going there if your planning on having a FUN night at all!!!

Business Response:

One we'd like to have back.... Dear Katherine, I was very sorry to read your review of your experience at our club. While I can't comment on the subjective merits of a particular slate of comedians, I can say that if you felt that you were mistreated then we failed in our interactions with you. I am hopeful that you'll give some consideration to giving us another try, and if you do, I'd like you to do so as my guest.

This comedy club has some of the biggest names in comedy and yet they are doing it in a 1970's country bar. The shows are good, except for some local guys opening for the headliners.

The past few times I went, the crowd was good sized and the show was just ok. Several years ago when I went to this place it was packed and it was the best comedy you could see from start to finish. I think they have new owners or something bc the club isnt the same.

I would recommend the club but make sure you know who you are going to see first... and if you can afford it, buy two chairs for each person bc they cram you in like sardines.

Business Response:

History of the club Dear John, I appreciate you taking the time to review our business. It is true that we are an old country bar, and as you can imagine our crowd size fluctuates based on who the headliner is. What you might not know is that we have, in fact, reduced the number of seats in the club, and made a number of safety improvements designed to improve the experience of our customers. You give some good advice about looking at some material of the comedians before you come to visit. Usually searching the name on youtube isn't a bad idea.

This club is a greatplace to go to unwind. They get a ton of big name acts as well as smaller less expensivelocal people. They have a limited food menu and bar available. The tables are Very close together and some of the seats don't face the stage. The parking gets crazy at times. Doors open 1 hour before the show and there is always a huge line. They offer some non-smoking shows.

PROS: get good acts, non-smoking shows
CONS: crowded seating, parking challenges, can be smoeky

Always No Smoking Dear Debbie, There's no smoking permitted at any of the shows any longer. Hope to see you again soon.

This is an enjoyable place to take in a comedy show, and their booking is usually pretty good. Individual performances are hit-or-miss, like any comedy club, but they tend to hit more often than most places.

Tickets are usually $12-18 or so, although a few of the big-name shows are closer to $30. If it's not a big-name show, you can usually buy tickets at the door. No drink minimums.

Parking is a bit short; if you go to an early show you might find some, but if you go to a later one there's not a chance (especially since a bar shares the same parking lot), so you'll have to go find some pay parking.

The Punchline is a first class comedy club, having hosted such popular performers as Jeff Foxworthy and Brett Bulter, before they were famous. Many of the top comedians in the business have appeared at The Punchline, at some point in their careers.

The club is conveniently located on Hildebrand Drive, off Sandy Springs Road in Atlanta. They offer a full service bar and limited menu of hot wings, nachos, etc.

The prices range from $10-$15 for lesser known talent, and up to $50 or more for more famous comedians. The club offers a small, intimate, setting and can be crowded, but most acts book two shows nightly, or shows on consecutive nights.

The Punchline is a very entertaining setting for a night out or small party. If your visiting the Atlanta area, you can't go wrong at the Punchline.

PROS: Frist class entertainment
CONS: Small Setting, crowded at times

I really liked this comedy club, we reserved our tickets early, but I think there were lots of people buying them there. They have very little parking, so some people across the street sell the spaces for $10 each. It may be different for the earlier show, as we went to the one at 10:00. When time to go inside, you get seated and a server is promptly with you to take your food/drink order.

Message from The Punchline Comedy Club

The Punchline is Atlanta's oldest continuously running comedy club. We've hosted over 60 of the Top 100 Comedians of All Time according to Comedy Central. We don't kid around with what we do, so don't get fooled by a part time venue trying to play in the big leagues. You'll have more fun than you can imagine, with the best comics in Atlanta.

Wait, you're the expert.
