Insider Pages Reviews for Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels

Ratings_icons Excellent Bagels

Stacey N.

Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels has the best bagels in the South Peninsula. The menu is somewhat limited, consisting of bagels and pastries for breakfast and egg/tuna/cheese sandwiches and pizza for lunch. Seating is usually sufficient but not for large parties. All food is kosher.

I love Izzy's bagels; they are moist and full of flavor (my favorite ones are whole wheat). The staff is great, friendly and efficient. Simple store, and great parking on California Avenue or in the back.

Ratings_icons Best bagels in town

Izzy's bagels are the best bagels in town. The bagels are baked daily and there are a variety to choose from. In addition to the bagels, there is a choice of cream cheeses, lox, and other sides. The bagels are also great to freeze.

Ratings_icons Not Boiled but Good Steamed Bagels

David C. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,341

Despite an order process which could provide a case study at Stanford Biz School in what *not* to do, the bagels here are fresh and a great incarnation of the steamed variety.

Of course, if you want true New York bagels, they must be boiled. If you find a place, let us know.

The people there are the best part. Don't dare come in with a frown on your face.

Ratings_icons Fabulous bagels

Husband is from the East coast and he always calls West Coast bagels boiled bread, but these are different, real New York bagels. A great way to start the day with one of these and a cup of their coffee. I wish they would start a franchise - they'd make a fortune.

Ratings_icons Closest to a Real Bagel on the West Coast

Jay D. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,890

Why is bagel-making a geographical thing? Why can no one accomplish what I took for granted on the east coast--a bagel that is hard on the outside and soft on the inside? Why are all west coast bagels basically kaiser rolls? Anyway, Izzy's comes the closest to delivering a real bagel experience. Pretty good selection of bagels and spreads. They'll also sell you a bag of day-olds at a great price if you're broke or cheap.
