The LES Tenement Museum is a must hit for everyone, seriously. The tours are ever expanding, as is the museum itself. The fact that they are able to grow and change is a testament to what they are trying to provide.

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is located in the former immigration district of the Lower East Side.

This space spans a great deal of history and the Lower East Side Museum does a great job covering it. You feel like you are actually living in the Lower East Side with its wondering exhibitions of re-creating the historic culture.

The museum is very small but offers excellent informative material. You should visit here if you are in any way interested in history.

Lower East Side Tenement Museum is different from the typical museum. It consist of a tour of an old tenement building that was restored to what it would be like to have lived in that building during the time period of the Tenement. It gives you an idea of how the immigrants must of suffered in the living conditions. The tour itself is not very expenisve ($9).

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is a pretty interesting museum. You get to learn about what it was like to live that neighorhood with all the immigrants. the museum itself is pretty small and you can't touch anything. I have to admit I was a little bored with the tour. I would have to say the best part was when it was over and I got to go to "ll Labotorio Gelato" for the best ice cream.

Did you ever wake up one morning and say to yourself "Gee whiz I wonder what it must feel like to be so poor you have to live in one room with a bunch of other immigrants and have no privacy!" Neither did I but if you are the least bit curious the Tenement museum offers walking tours that show actual apartments back in the day when tenement slums were allowed.

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is a surprisingly interesting place to visit. They have an old tenement set up in the Lower East Side pretty close to what it was like in the old days, minus the rats, horse droppings on the sidewalk and other attendent smells. You walk up quite a few narrow steps so you might want to pass if you have problems getting around. It can get hot in the Summer, no AC in the 1880's, but I think it probably gives you a pretty accurate portrayal of what life for the poor was like back in the olddays. When you are done go next door to "Il Labotorio Gelato" for some of the best Ice Cream you will ever have. My 7 year old son went on a class trip, I had never taken him thinking he wouldn't enjoy it and he had a great time.

PROS: Great Experience
CONS: Be prepared to walk up narrow stairs

These buildings are kept just as they were when the neighborhood was the first home in America for millions of immigrants. The tour is interesting and not to expensive it was $9 when I took it a few years back. Next door is Il Labotorio Gelato which makes in my opinion the best ice cream in New York so treat yourself to a cup afetr your journey into the past.

PROS: Fascinating part of new York history

Spent a fulfilling family afternoon here recently. As soon as you enter this building, rich with history, you taste what it was like for families living in NYC's tenements and stay immersed for the next few hours. Very knowledgable guide.

Very interesting place, but still a work in progress. Tour was made extra special by our guide Rose who pointed out an interesting walk of the neigbourhood. A large group would dilute the experience.

I wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped to be. Maybe because I share a two-bedroom apartment with 3 other people here in NY, I thought that with some paint, light fixtures, and a bathroom, those apartments wouldn't be so bad. Granted, I don't

A visit here is a must for anyone who calls himself or herself a New Yorker. You think your studio is a tiny, rat-infested cell, wait till you see these places, and how people (and how many people) used to live in them.
