This museum gives an appreciation of firefighters in New York. It's held in a renovated firehouse, so you get a full tour of the day in the life of a firefighter - from their communal bedrooms & kitchen, to the sliding pole, to their fire trucks and equipment, such as the jaws of death. My favorite aspect is the newspaper clippings detailing the lives firemen have saved and the struggles they've gone through - it truly leaves you with honor and respect for the courageous and brave acts of firemen.

Although on our visit the second floor was closed for painting, I was thoroughly impressed with this museum. Its collection is unique and comprehensive-just the documents on the wall are amazing enough. There is a horse drawn chief's wagon, a floodlight truck, two rooms of September 11 material that can be difficult to view...

It's reasonable and not hard to get to from the subway; the staff is excellent and entertaining.

Very neat Soho museum dedicated to the forefighters of New York City. The displays include artifacts dating back to the 1800's and the old bucket brigades. Admission is under $5 and kids under 12 are only $1.
