Ratings_icons Summer Shakespeare Festival is as good as it gets

I think that Darko Tresnak, the director of the Globe's summer Shakespeare Festival is brilliant. I have a few theater friends from New York whom I've taken to the Globe and they agree that he's a topnotch director. Plus-- Balboa Park at night is beautiful. Go early and you can eat at the park before the performance.

If you love the performing arts, you'll love The Old Globe Theaters. The Old Globe is made up of three separate theaters, although I've only been to two of them. I've been to the Old Globe and also the outdoor theater which is called the Lowell Davies Theater. I've been to the Old Globe several times and would highly recommend it. Every seat I've ever had has had a good site line to the stage (no blocked view)... they don't just have Shakespeare productions here, you'll find a variety of different shows. My favorite theater is the outdoor theater. It's only open during the summer time, I think that it closes in October... it's beautiful...great place for a date. You overlook Balboa Park and you're in the middle of georgous trees... it's truly a great place to see a play! If you've not gone yet... you should definitely check this place out!

If youve never seen a play in your life, The Old Globe is the place to see your first. You'd instantly fall in love with the world of theater because the charm of the place. The first that I saw was Macbeth and it was set in a stadium style circular stage that made it seem interactive, almost. It was not at all what you'd envision a play would be like and it was awesome. It made me feel like I'm actually part of the story.

Ratings_icons Young Or Old You'll Enjoy The Old Globe

Sarah H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 626

The Old Globe Theater is located in the Balboa Park area of San Diego. The Old Globe Theater combines classic theater productions with contemporary styling. The prices are reasonable, especially during their summer series. You can see everything from family theater productions like How The Grinch Stole Christmas to classic productions of the works of Shakespeare. Regardless of what your theater style is, there is something at The Old Globe Theater to satisfy your taste for high quality theater.

Whether you're outdoors at the Lowell Davies enjoying some summer Shakespeare or indoors at the Globe or the smaller Cassius Carter, you'll have a great time here. Tickets are about $60 each so be prepared to spend-- subscriptions are a better deal. They often bring in big stars, too.

Ratings_icons Beautiful Theater

The Globe is a beautiful theater in the middle of a beautiful spot - Balboa Park. The interior theater is a recreation of the famous place where Shakespeare's plays...played. All the seats are decent, the balcony even towards the back was particularly good. The exterior theater is a little smaller and more intimate and perfect for the summer plays. Keep an eye out for the annual presentation of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". The walkway around the theater is fun to walk through as well at this time.
