A beautiful setting and a treasure in Chicago. I love what they do and will continue to support them in their fine work.

Be very careful when going, do not park in the parkinglot. Me and my fiancee were robbed at gunpoint the other night. They all our belongings and walked away like it was nothing to them. I would not reccomend anyone going there late or at all. Please take this as a warning.

Pros: Nice gardens

Cons: Worst neighborhood around.

This is such a beautiful place that really is a escape from the city life. It only takes a small donation to enjoy the large greenhouses and outdoor gardens. This year there has been a theme of Nikki In the Park. The sculptures are wonderful and incorporated very nicely into the conservatory. There are beautiful gardens outside with even a large grassy area for a picnic. The garden even has a bee hive that is a wonderful addition to see their work as they pollinate all the flowers. The conservatory is always working on new areas. This is a must see and a great photo opportunity.

Great location in Chicago, very beautiful and well maintained garden with a variety of interesitng plants. Great way to relax and get away from the city, without really leaving it. Quiet and serene, great for a walk, or to sit and read. It's indoors, so you can even go in the winter. They also host festivals and markets, and many informational programs. A great facility in the city that offers something interesting for everyone.

PROS: great escape from the city

The conservatory had a special showing of dinosaur bones mixed in with the flora and fauna when I went. Although I recommend the conservatory for seeing all the different plants, I can definitely say don't go during the middle of the summer. The temperatures inside must have exceeded 105. It was very hot and humid inside. Overall, it's a good trip for a couple of hours during the day and if you go during a special exhibit, it's even more fascinating.

This facility has great kids programming. They have an area set up where kids can learn about plants, and the activities change from time to time. They have a slide/play area. The flowers are beautiful and exhibits easy to explain to school age kids. It's free and parking isn't too difficult, so take your kids here and learn something!

We took our out-of-town visitors to the conservatory, which has a great variety of beautiful plants and flowers. Most plants were well labeled. It's nice to have a conservatory so visitors can escape the snow in the winter and it's fairly easy to find parking.

This beautiful conservatory is a special treat to escape the pressures of living in the big city. Seasonal plantings make for interesting changes, but it is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year. Be sure and seek out the food area, where you will find plants that go into making up our daily diet. Great for kids and seniors, too.

PROS: great building and even better plants
CONS: a little out of the way, but worth finding

this particular conservatory is hard to find and not in a great location. It is gorgeous, however, and with a little caution is worth the trip. There is another conservatory, in Lincoln Park, which is just as nice, also free, easier to find and has other fun things nearby (zoo, park, nature museum). I would recommend it over Garfield Park.

I went there because a friend who'd visited the area a few months ago suggested I stop in to see the indoor garden. I would also suggest the same to anyone else who either lives in the Chicago area or is visiting. It's worth it, especially if the weather is very hot or very cold. The temperature inside is controlled, so you can temporarily escape the heat / humidity or the freezing winter. The shopping is nice as well. They have festivals including a chocolate festival, which I missed. :(

PROS: free parking, controlled temp, beautiful plants
CONS:

If you are looking for something fun to do on the weekend, head out to the Garfield Park Conservatory. It's a great place to go in winter, since you can see a lot of green plants and colorful flowers to brighten up your day. It's also fun in summer since you can then walk around the campus and go shopping. There's plenty of free parking in the Conservatory lot or at the park.

Garfield Park Conservatory is one of the largest indoor gardens (under glass), and it hosts quite a variety of plants in a humid, sunny, yet shielded environment. Besides general viewing, the conservatory hosts quite a few festivals, markets, and educational programs (often geared toward kids). I went when they were hosting a chocolate festival, and they have many other programs of interest.

I went out to see the Chihuly exhibit and truly enjoyed myself. The conservatory itself is beautiful and lush--what a great place to visit in the dead of winter for a little dose of greenery.
