Well, DC may hold a lot of history, but so does the State Capitol here in Montgomery. From the Civil War swearing in of Jefferson Davis on the Capitol Steps to the march from Selma ending at the steps during the Civil Right's movement. The beauty and history held inside are free for visitors to see, from the old senate chamber to the rotunda. A great outing that cost nothing more than what a parking meter will hold. Do wear walking shoes. The building itself is listed as a National Historic Landmark, one of the few State Capitol buildings to hold the honor. They also take group tours, I think by appointment. We have toured the building numerous times, with guest and I learn something new every time we are there!
