We chose Live Oak Grill tonight after our first restaurant choice had a 1 hr wait. The parking lot was full so we anticipated a long line to order. Not!! The restaurant was full but still empty tables to choose from along with outside dining. We were the next in line to order when we walked in. The food was delicious! I had the special - salmon salad. Best salmon I have ever had. Juicy and tasty and mild smoky flavor - Scrumptious! My husband had the chicken fried steak - delicious! The mashed potatoes and the garlic cole slaw - YUUMMMMY!! We were so glad we opted Live Oak Grill!! Don't let the simple down home feel fool you - the food is delicious!

Going to Live Oak Grill is like going over to someone's summer farmhouse for dinner. Framed by a large live oak tree with wooden tables for al freso dining, the main restaurant building looks like a large family home. There's a jukebox in the corner and a bucket of beer near the cash register. You walk up to the counter and place your order and pick it up when the buzzer goes off. We always order the chicken fried chicken, fried to crispy perfection and topped with a creamy gravy, which comes with your choice of two sides. I get the corn and mac n cheese. My husband likes the green beans and mashed potatoes. This is comfort food at its best - So much better than the upscale Ousie's table in River oaks (where chicken fried chicken is ~$28), and for 1/3 of the price! They also have burgers, pork chops, salmon, salads, and a wonderful banana pudding - but stick with either the chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken, and you won't ever go wrong.

Every time my husband and I, along with friends go eat at Live Oak Grill we are greeted with friendly faces and the most amazing food for a Mom and Pop Restaurant! I recently had the pleasure of eating the Portobello Mushroom burger and was blown away at the flavors that were bursting in my mouth!
We do know the owner, Bob who is a very sweet man and comes and sits with us almost every time we go there, but he does this with everyone because he wants to make sure everyone is happy with the food, if not he will take it back and get you something else. How's that for customer service? Thanks to all of the staff for all the good food and great times at Live Oak Grill! We will be back over and over again! See you soon Bob!

I enjoy eating here, they have daily specials, great hamburgers and a variety of other foods. Ice cold beer and a good ole juke box to listen to. It's a bit off the beaten path, but once you find it, you will be back. Owners are very friendly and ready to serve their guests.

We are new to town and searched for somewhere to eat using Google and keywords Sugar Land restaurant play area. Lots of positive reviews came up for this restaurant so we decided to try it.

PROS:
1. We ate outside underneath the oak trees and since the weather this evening was extremely pleasant, it was nice.
2. My husband and I both ate chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The meal was delicious. The chicken fried chicken, especially, was wonderful. The chicken was very tender and the breading was wonderful.
3. My children enjoyed the small play area (but see Cons below).

CONS:
1. My daughter has food allergies and when we tried to ask a few questions of the woman staffing the cash register where you order the food, she was surly, sarcastic, and uncooperative. My husband asked a couple of questions about ingredients and then he said apologetically, "My daughter is allergic to some foods." The woman replied, "Obviously," and all but rolled her eyes. She claimed she had no idea if there was egg in the hamburger bun and when my husband asked if she could inquire in the kitchen to possibly find out, she acted completely irritated. There was no one else in line so there was no reason for such poor customer service. Her attitude was a disgrace.
2. The play area is rather gross. There are several plastic play houses that are all falling apart and completely dirty. Other reviews favorably mention the play area and parents considering whether to eat here should be warned that the play area is rather disappointing.

BOTTOM LINE: We will probably try this restaurant again but if we go back and we are treated so poorly if we ask questions about ingredients, I will ask to speak to the owner to see if he/she would prefer that families like us with food allergy issues just avoid his/her restaurant altogether.

I gave the restaurant 3 stars because the food was so good; otherwise, it would have been fewer.

Believe it or not, my favorite on the menu is the Tuna Steak Dinner. A totally unexpected pleasure at this casual, Mom & Pop restaurant. My husband's favorite is the Chicken Fried Steak w/mashed potatoes & gravy. Their burgers are also good. But Many - the Tuna Steak is awesome - as good or better than any fancy seafood restaurant!

I've been there maybe 7 or so times. Service can be a little slow, but it is deffinatly worth the wait! It has a nice homie feel... nothing fancy. But great comfort food. My favorite is the mushroom swiss burger with a side of honey-mustard for the fries.
It's not very busy, and even when it is busy, there is hardly a wait at all.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Our favorite thing about Live Oak Grill is that we can get a healthy meal there, like delicious grilled salmon or a tuna steak or a vegetarian portobella mushroom burger. But they do have a full menu of all the normal grill items such as steaks, chicken fried steaks, burgers, onion rings, etc., and they are all well prepared and delicious. With the healthier items, they serve delicious sides like mashed potatoes and some of the best green beans I've ever eaten. They also offer delicious dessert choices. The atmosphere is friendly, a fun Texas theme, with indoor and outdoor seating. And a 5-cent per tune jukebox to boot!
