I came there to buy 20 bushes for my back yard. Since I don't know much about them I explained what I wanted and where I can I can find it. I had to asked three different people including the "old man" who is the owner and his wife. None

The old grumpy man who stated that he is the owner is a racist! I attempted to purchase three plants that were tagged on each one for $17.99 each. When I attempted to check out, he told me they were $22 each and he didn't care what the tags stated. He moved my cart out the way and continued to help other white customers and ignored me a black customer with my 8 year old son with me. Even my 8 year old son stated that, "that old man is a racist and that's not right." If you shop there, you are promoting racism!

It is a shame how 1 bad employee can ruin a small business ! My neighbors have plant envy of me because of this place.
MY PROBLEM IS WITH KELLY THE CASHIER!

I shop at Growers Outlet in Pineville, NC all the time.
I know most employees there so well, that when I would go in to buy plants, they knew I was staging my home for sale. They would often ask me how it was going and if it sold. Would help me to my car with my purchases, and the owner while some people would think is little rough around the edges, he really is not. He is serious about his work, is a horticulture expert, a perfectionist and has a ton of knowledge - He once gave me a free bag of fertilizer and has given me countless gardening tips. Could he be tired of demanding customers wanting something for nothing - I bet - but this post is not about him. I just try an post the good and the bad in all fairness.Anyway, went in to buy an indoor plant - usually I buy for my yard, when the employee that knows me mentions that I must have sold my house because I am buying indoor plants. I told him that I had not and actually took my home off the market. I told him during our 2 minute conversation that many things hurt the sell of the home including the elementary school that is slated for my neighborhood. Its not the greatest, test scores are low.
After speaking to him for a few minutes I went to Kelly the cashier. I have never seen her before, but she seemed a little gruff at first. During check out, Kelly asked me what school I was talking about. When I told her what school I swear she turned into Curilla De Ville right in front of my very eyes.
She told me that I was " full of bull****" yes she said bull*** to me a paying customer... she had already swiped my credit card at this time. She then proceeded to tell me how her child goes to that school and I'm wrong and to "get the *** out of the store".. Meanwhile, I have a child that goes there as well.

I don't set the standards for the schools - In the 2010-11 school year - 48.3 percent of students were proficient in reading!!!!!I love my daughters teacher and a few of the teachers at the school. Sadly to say, the feedback received from potential buyers was really about the school. I then asked to speak to the manager.. she smiled and say she was it..

so I asked to speak to the owner, all the while maintaining my composure - I told her she cannot talk to customers that way and demanded a refund. She pointed to a sign that said no refunds.. That's when I realized my only recourse is to never do business here again. I told Kelly that she just lost money for the company.. I plan to get all of my receipts from this company and mail them to the owner so he can tally up what a bad cashier cost him..

I spent thousands there buying new trees shrubs and flowers for my yard - I live on 1/2 an acre:. I also told Kelly that she has no idea what she has done to the company because she is only a cashier - a bad one at that- and gets paid hourly".

Kelly if you ever see this, I hope you can learn to keep your opinions to yourself while at work;. If you can manage that, may be , just maybe, your next career move will be a cashier at McDonalds,.However, even McDonalds has a standard of conduct for their employees while on the job - I doubt they would even hire her!. As far as Growers Outlet - will I still shop there - I don't know..
will I let one bad apple spoil the bunch ? Bill needs to come down on CERTIAN employees like customers that don't understand him.

Dodged a bullet, had rude service via phone and found more reviews from last year on another site. All I did was call to ask about availability and kept getting put on hold until the person said he couldn't handle it and hung up. Here they are:

Not welcome at Growers Outlet

Purchasing a home in Charlotte that was in need of alot of landscaping I was thrilled to see Growers Outlet ad in the Observer. I had plans drawn up and brought the details with me. Spoke with a grumpy old man who paired me up with an employee who showed me everything but what I told him I wanted. After which the old fart told me "We don't need your business". I was shocked at his boldness and wondered if I made a mistake moving here to North Carolina. I found him to be the only rude individual in business since. I think the ad was just to get you to come and buy something other than what was in the ad for alot more money.

Good prices...Horrible service

I have shopped Growers Outlet for 3 years now and the customer service is awful there. The only reason I return to shop there is because of the prices. The owner and the employees are very rude and not helpful at all. The last time I was there an employee ran to my car and asked to see my receipt for my plants...I had a toddler with me and I asked that I put the child in the car and that I would show my receipt (we were in a parking lot and did not want my child to get hurt)...the man was very rude and all but accused me of stealing...needless to say I never got an apology after producing my receipt for everything on my cart, just a smug attitude from the employee. I work in customer service and this is not the way to bring back customers. I did not have a problem with asking for my receipt...just the attitude that came with it. I took the time out of my day to visit and BUY over a hundred dollars in plants and never once did I feel welcomed...NEW MANAGEMENT AND OWNER IS NEEDED!

I don't believe the person who said the owner assaulted her. I've been going to this store for years and have never seen the owner use anything other than a droll wit with his customers. The plants are great, cheap, and it's not hard to figure out where a line begins and if it is, it's easy to ask the people in said line. You can always find unusual plants and good advice on what and where to plant is plentiful. What more could you ask for?

Love growers outlet. If I want something I can always find it there. The parking used to be a problem but they have redone their parking and it is better now. Employees have been nothing but nice to me anytime I have been there. It can get a bit crowded but that is because it is a popular place. You have to be OK with waiting a few minutes it will be worth it in the long run.

1st time visit - Owner Physically grabbed my arm and pulled me, while I had arms full of plants. Never being there, 1 register opened, not able to tell where the end of the line was, I tried getting to the back of the line after waiting in the wrong area for several minutes. As I tried to get to the back of the line, the owner grabbed my armed and pulled me, telling me I was not allowed to walk through what I thought was an isle. I left my plants and went to the local police station. After talking to the Pineville Police, and not wanting to file an assult charge, I returned and talked with the owner who grabbed my arm. I was very apologetic, and just explained I didn't know how to get to the back of the line, and how I thought it could have been handled a different way. He still was very rude and would not apologize and said he would have me arrested if I did not leave. What a wonderful way to do business. I then went to Lowe's and bought the same plants for several dollars less on each, compared to his prices. I wish I would have checked his reviews on google and yahoo before heading there.

The employees are very friendly. There is always a great selection to choose from him. The prices are pretty reasonable, too, compared to other non-chain plant markets. Only downfall is the parking.

They have an awesome array of shrubs and flowers to choose from. Even giant palm trees. I feel their prices are great and there are usually specials going on for seasonal plants. I would say that the staff has some work to do. Many of my questions are not answered satisfactorily.
