My daughter has been going here since august 2011.
We have seen a great change in my daughter. She has learned
A great bit about respect for others here. Master Phillips and his instructors are wonderful with children. To read some of the issues below are crazy! Master Phillips does lay the law down. This is for a reason though. To be teaching this Martial Arts is not easy. To go to tournaments and see the others schools we are THANKFUL to be here. I would do this all over again. Thank you for guiding my daughter down the paths laid before her. I don't expect anything given to her. Life is to short to give a false sense of hope.
Thanks to the structured instruction from Mr. Wynn and the other instructors.

I have been a student here for six years. It is the first time in my life that I ever completed one "journey" and have continued onto the next "journey". People will always have differences of opinions about everything. In my opinion Master and Mrs Phillips are wonderful people. I never had much self confidence in myself until I started to train here. He teaches all aspects of the martial arts from the physical to the mental and spiritual side as well. You cannot have one part without the other. I will always recommend this school to anyone who is interested in learning a total martial arts program. People that badmouth others are just stating their opinions, they may believe they are right but that is not always true. My suggestion is to come in and find out for yourself. Don't let someone else make the decision for you. Visitors are always welcome.

My child took classes at this studio and I got the pleasure of observing these classes if you can call it a pleasure. If you want to learn how to be a bully this is the place to go when it is sparring night. If you suck up or are well liked by the instructor everythings cool. Go againsr him in anyway and look out cause here comes your bully beat down by him or by one of the other students that he has pulled aside before class and informed what to do. BUT THIS DOESN'T GO AS PLANED SOMETIMES THE GRASSHOPPER GETS BEAT.

I will start by saying this is a traditional school and Master Phillips(owner) takes his school and teaching very serious and from my experience he has an open door policy .
If you or any parent has a concern you are welcome to bring it to his attention he welcomes it .
I have been a parent at the school for 5+ years and will and can say that there is no truth to what was said there has only been 1 red belt stripe promotion in this time and they just received there stripe 11-23-09 .
Also when you test the Master does not promote you at that time and you dont know for at least a month .and the student that was promoted works very hard to achieve this rank and as they go higher in the ranks it gets harder nothing is given unless earned .
These owners Master Phillips and his wife are very good christian people in the community and they do so much for everyone from fundraisers in the community to helping his students to raise money for uniforms to help the parents from the cost.
I have had the pleasure to know them both in this tough economic times that we are in and they have been there for all there students they are very generous people I know first hand and can never thank them enough for all they have done for my family .
I am writing this because I am very proud to be part of this school and to be involved in all the activities that parents should be part of as I said this is a great school .

Thank you for this time Tang Soo Do!

my daughter has been at this school for 3 years and came home and told me a adult student said she passed her test to redbelt stripe and made tons of mistakes and still doesnt know her forms and that is upsetting to us because my daughrter will be test for red belt in a couple of months and works very hard and takes it serious she studies and knows her forms and is watching to see if the story is true if it is it will be very disapointing to know there is special treatment and i will approach the owner with this i had to tell my child to just worry about yourself and know that you earned and know your forms. concerned parent

Just as a point of clarification, Gregory Phillips legitimately tested to the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in the art of Tang Soo Do. This rank in our art carries the title of 'Master' (of Tang Soo Do).

I personally test Phillips to this rank and his rank is recognized by the United Tang Soo Do Association. Our international organization has members and is affiliated with Independent Tang Soo Do organizations in countries including South Africa, Holland, Honduras, India, Italy, Scotland, Romania, Germany, Greece, Poland and Great Britain.

As for my qualifications, I have been in the martial arts for over 30 years. I am a sixth degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and have also earned Black Belts in Haedong Kumdo and Tae Kwon Do in addition to training in GoJu Ryu, and Aikido.

As a former member of WTSDA myself, I find it very disappointing to have current members attempt to discredit former members who have decided not to remain members of that organization.

As for having control issues, as any business owner, Phillips must run his school like an educational entity. As with any Director or Superintendent, there are often tough decisions and policies that some students do not agree with.

i trained at this ''school' when i was younger, i had more experience then "master" phillips(which is what he likes to call himself) he never received his masters rank from anyone but himself. he has control issues, and has something against women, especially young women how have more achievements then he does. he is really a piece of work. and im glad i was the young women to put him in his place :) no matter how hard he tried to ruin my career as a REAL member of the world tang soo do association. :) he doesnt care about the children or making them feel good about themselves, its all about money to him, they say you wear your belt around your heart not your waist, well he wears his around his wallet, a belt he didnt even earn at that. i am ashamed to say he WAS apart of the wtsda, something i love very much and is very dear to my heart. im just upset that i let him get to me, but what can i say i was 14 when he tried to ruin me and my love with the art of tang soo do, but it tested my strength and loyalty(something he doesnt have) but im am proud to say i made it out before it got to late and he ruined my reputation because he was jealous of a 14 year old CHILD. i am proud to say i am a mother now, and i would never let my child to go to a school like that, i want my son to grow up learning how to respect himself and others, even women. :)

My son has been attending Phillips Korean Martial Arts since the age of 6. Now, he is 10 years of age and is about to receive his certified black belt. The instruction he got was age and skill appropriate. They challenged him to succeed in the martial arts and school. I believe the lessons he has learned will carry over for the rest of his life. I was so pleased that I put my other son in the program, too. The instructors at the school can teach anyone from the age of 3 until as old as you want to be. They have something for everyone. If you don't believe me, check it out. The school is on Ridge Road, beside Publix.

My child has been taken classes at this school for a couple of months and I've been watching the classes very carefully; The staff and instructors are excellent, specially with the younger children, patience like I've never seen. However at times I've notice that some parents want the instructors to treat their spoiled children like little flowers, some, maybe a couple of those flowery children are very undisciplined, rude and bad mannered. These parents should not have their children take karate, they should be taken dance classes. Karate is not for Flowery Children.
This is an EXCELLENT Academy, the best in the area.
Their prices are very, very reasonable.

My youngest son has been at PKA for nearly 3 years and my oldest son joined last year. We love Master and Mrs. Phillips and the teaching team that they have. Honor and Discipline are the keys at PKA and the men and women there show great character. The classes are well organized, run smoothly and have a lot of fun built in while they are learning the art of Tang Soo Do. As students progress through the belts, obviously, the instruction becomes more serious and requires a serious commitment by the students to learn. I love that my boys are committed to the art of Tang Soo Do at Phillips Karate Academy. I love that instructors insist on students showing respect to all authority over them. It really has helped me at home. If you are looking for a place to have your children in after school activities, this is the place. I am grateful to have found PKA.

I and my family have been attending Phillips Karate for over two years now. Master Phillips and his staff are not only very professional and skilled, but they make the classes challenging as well as fun. I have recommended this school to many of my friends and those who have tried it are still there. we would highly recommend giving them a try.

We tried out this school. WHEN IT WAS PART OF THE WORLD TANG SOO DO ASSOCIATION. WHICH FOR SOME REASON THEY NO LONGER BELONG TO I GUESS THAT'S A GOOD THING FOR THE WTSDA. I AM GLAD MY CHILD IS NO LONGER ASSOCIATED WITH THIS STUDIO. WE HAD NOTICED THE WAY THE HEAD INSTRUCTOR TREATED HIS STUDENTS THEY WERE NOT TREATED ALL ALIKE. IF HE DID NOT LIKE YOU YOU COULD BE TREATED VERY BADLY ESPECIALLY IN SPARRING CLASSES, AND THE WAY HE WOULD TALK ABOUT THE PARENTS BEHIND THERE BACKS. DON'T LET HIS FIRST IMPRESSION FOOL YOU.

I tried this when my son was 4. I figured there was nothing to lose since you got a month free before you had to commit. There are way too many children in the class for a newbie to catch the concept here. Now I understand that he was not yet 5, but I feel the fundamentals were lacking here. Too many kids, means they are sitting for long periods. There were some classes where he hardly participated. The assistantt teachers did not pay close attention and kids sit goofing around waiting for their turn.

PROS: you get a free month
CONS: Too many kids, not enough real instruction
