When you go to Pet Supplies Plus you expect good customer service, acceptable prices and a variety of products. Everytime I go to a Pet Supplies Plus with my Rottweiler, Zoe, and walk around looking at the products they have to offer, I notice that they are all majority Cat and Dog. I have Reptiles, Large Birds, and a Dog. Majority of my animals are exotic pets and Pet Supplies Plus has maybe half an eisle dedicated to these animals. The you look at prices, I feed my Parrots Browns mix, at PetSmart I pay 15 bucks for a 5 oz. bag of food while at Pet Supplies I pay 25. My dog food is 20 dollars more there then at PetSmart and comes in bigger bags. To top of the lack of supplies and high prices you have some teenager that doesn't know anything about a dog or cat let alone exotics. I feel that Pet stores need to hire people with more experiance and more knowledge of animals so that people aren't recieving false information on their pets care.

I used to shop at the old Pet Supplies Plus location when it was on Piedmont. So, I was very happy to hear that this new location opened at the corner of Cheshire Bridge and Lavista in the Publix Shopping Center. Imagine how pleased I was to find an even better selection of holistic/organic pet foods than before, a cleaner store and much easier access in and out. It's really a win/win for me, because I can do my grocery shopping and pet shopping all in one stop. I went in this past Saturday and they had pet adoptions. My kids loved it! The staff is very nice and greets you as you walk in the door. They seem to really enjoy working there. My dog, Charlie, is on a fairly hard to find food called Orijen. They have it and at a decent price. I was also pleasantly surprised to know that they will be coming out with a new Preferred Pet Club soon, like at the old location. I can't wait for that. They also have a Pet Birthday Club, so sign up for that. Your pet will get a gift on their birthday. The day I was in they put a flyer in my bag telling me abou their new fan page on Facebook. I noticed that they do a weekly giveaway. So check back often. Other perks at Pet Supplies Plus...coupons, doubled up to a dollar and they will special order. I'm seriously so glad they are back in my neighborhood.

Pet Supplies Plus in Athens is decent, I have been to the one in Carrollton and it is laid out much better and the staff is far more knowledgeable when it comes to reptiles (The owner/manager's daughter has a red tail boa). Unfortunately, their prices for mice are a bit steep compared to what I am used to. I have 2 Ball Pythons and one is eating 2 mice a week and the other is eating 1 frozen hopper mouse each week so feeding can get a little pricey at $1.50 a mouse compared to the $1 I'm used to. Also, they don't carry the proper equipment for BP's. They carry and 'push' those half-logs as hides but those are horrible for ball pythons as they don't feel secure and can stress them out. Also, they say to use either bulbs or ceramic heat emitters for heat when BP's actually are better off with an Undertank heating element with a dimmer switch (lights zap the humidity, which is evident, their ball python they had in the store had a horrible shed with 90% still on him, if that doesn't get fixed soon he could have serious problems) And if there is an employee on here you need to soak him in tepid water for about an hour, then put a hand towel around him and then place him in a pillow case, he should move around enough to get the old skin off, if not just wait a day and repeat the process - DO NOT do it by picking it off. Their snakes on display are STRESSED!... while it may look good for display when a BP is moving around a lot during the day, it means there is something wrong, they need better hides and higher humidity levels (60%) - they didn't even have thermometers/hygrometers in their enclosures :(... by the way, if you would like to hire me I will be the guy coming in every week buying 2 live mice and 1 frozen one

It's never fun to hear that our employees are doing a bad job. We are deeply sorry you had a bad experience. It's unfortunate that the gentleman helping you was not "all he could be" when it comes to Geckos. We try to keep all of our customer service people educated on different species. Unfortunately sometimes new assistants end up helping when they shouldn't. I will definitely try and get to the bottom of this, since we certainly don't want someone else to have your same experience. Again, our apologies. We hope you found your Gecko and that you are very happy with him!

I went into this store after hearing that they would be more knowledgeable than Petsmart or the like.WRONG! I was going in to purchase a gecko for my birthday. They have horrible customer service, employees know NOTHING about the animals and reptiles they sell there, and were very very unhelpful. I am very disappointed in this store and will never return. The guy "helping" us even reached in to get the gecko that I wanted to buy, and he picked it up by the tail--something even people uneducated in geckos know not to do, and it broke off. I ended up leaving without a gecko, and with them losing a sale of a couple hundred dollars. VERY bad experience.

This is Athens only full service pet supply warehouse. This isn't your "mom & pop" retail pet store, with stinky isles and dirty cages. The owners of this shop keep the store very clean and everything is neat and tidy. I was so impressed with the cleanliness and selection. If you can't find stuff the staff is knowlegeable and friendly and everywhere I turned there was someone waiting to answer questions. The kicker is they meet or beat "any" advertised price, so if you are a Walmart shopper, they are still cheaper!!!! They take coupons for double the face value up to a dollar. Plus, I can take Princess with me when I shop. They even have a "self serve" pet wash with a walk up ramp and free shampoo and towel. Leave the mess at home is what I say. Now where else can you do that except 50 miles away at PetsMart. Actually I've shopped both PetsMart and Petco and found PSP to be a step above for customer service and selection. Things are easy to find at PSP and frankly I'd rather not make the drive to Atlanta to buy dog food. Also, if you ever get a chance, ask the manager about the humanitarian work the owners did with Hurrican Katrina. It's amazing! We "LOOOOOVVVVEEEE" it. Keep up the good work.

PROS: Great Selection, excellent prices, Clean Store
CONS: Parking, Rush Hour Alps traffic

Athens proper doesn't have and petco or petsmart, pet supplies plus is the first "large" pet store and I like it. It's convenient and doesn't sell puppies. Its small animals and birds are relatively well cared for, compared to petland. There is a large selection in all pet categories and I haven't found that the prices of their products are high. In fact, the prices for my bird's foods are cheaper than at the other petstore that carries it.
They offer on the spot tag engraving and kittens are available daily for adoption.
I have not found that the layout is confusing.

This place is over priced but convenient. They have a good location but the layout of the store is quite confusing. I also found that alot of their products are now carried by the big box chain stores at cheaper prices. The staff is friendly though and somewhat helpful. Overall, its a place of last resort but I would price shop at other stores.
