Adam and his team at Sherlocks 'ARE" amazing. We hold several functions at their place every month. We've had networking meetings for the past few years for about 50 - 100 people. Never a complaint from anyone. We just recently reserved

I have been going to Sherlock's for about 5 years. When my friends and I want to stay North and not hit DT, this is where we go. The drinks can be pricey, but you can get pitchers for $11. I like the people because there is always a diverse crowd. I like the different parts of the bar depending on what mood you are in. Sometimes you wait a while to order a drink, but the staff has always been friendly. For a night out with great people watching and usually FUN bands...this is where I go!

Pros: Free live music every night

Cons: parking and intimidating cops

Taking your food order, or bringing plates after your food order is delivered don't seem to be a priority.
I would recommend trying another pub if you would like to leave with less stress than you arrived.

Not impressed at all!! The mananger is not smart. Had a party of 10+ & 1 in group had to much to drink. We'll he kept out the entire group. Whoever he is! He obviously doesn't wabt to make $ or serve his customers. FYI? The band is inappropriate for the regular crowd. Miserable experiance!

I would have to agree with most of the reviewers. It takes forever to get a drink due to the volume of people around the bar. I have run into some friendly bartenders there every now and then, but yes, most of the bar staff aren't very friendly. Despite that, I think it is a cool place to hang out with friends, listen to live music and down a few beers. I'm not there to rub elbows with the ugly, rude bar staff anyway. I'm there to share the great atmosphere with my girlfriends but maybe management should educate their staff on how to treat PAYING customers.

I read the last few reviews (written on the same day and worded very similarly ??), and now feel totally compelled to write a review (never have done this before !!) I have been to this bar many times for happy hour (I work close by), and late nite for the music. THIS BAR IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE CITY. The staff are really great, especially Cristi and Marie -they are the best. My fav bartender is Lee - very personable and good looking.
I definitely recommend this place and hope to see you there. i will be by the bar with red hair !!

About six months ago I was invited to a business meeting at Sherlock for lunch. Immediately I said "bars never have good food". I had to go and much to my surprise it was great. The salads are fresh, sandwiches are very good and the plate lunches are fabulous. I would recommend highly if you can deal with the dark club feel. It's worth a try.

1 star is probably to much to give but it was the lowest rating available!
I am in sales and usually love to tell new people in Austin where the hot spots are. In this case I'm letting you know where the worst is - to save you the suffering. I was overcharged more than $100 on my corporate card. When I questioned the manager I was told it would be corrected - it wasn't and I was told to leave and not come back. I will be letting everyone I know NOT to go here.

Pros: None

Cons: Poor Service, Rude Management, Bad environment ( cheap feeling - like a dark biker bar)

Please! Save yourself from this pit! There are so many other great places in town. I travel alot and thought this might be a good spot (I've been to others and they were great). My guess is the management of this location is so BAD it reflects on ever aspect of this location. Little man syndrom is probably the cause. Bad parking (bird stuff gets all over your car if you can find a spot), the staff is rude and they overcharged us, door staff is rude, the police were all over the front entrance (not a good place to have a drink - unless you want to be set up for a DWI.

Yuk! is the best way to describe my experience. Try finding a parking space. The door person was snide and glared at us, the bar staff over charged us (guess they needed some extra cash), the manager was so rude to us that I have filed a complaint with the corporate, the food is horrible, drinks were okay but who can mess up a bottled beer. The good thing is that City Search has a rating system and I hope I can save someone else from letting this place make your night stink. My money is going to somewhere else where I will be treated with respect.

Pros: That there are a lot of other bars in Austin!

Cons: Manager is rude, wait staff is rude, no parking, dirty restrooms, bad food

It takes over 10 minutes to get a couple of beers and they staff is standing around chatting. I came here for inexpensive drinks, but should have know that it would come with inadequate service. I had previously heard good things about this place, but my experience just was not good.

This is the second Shelocks I have become a regular to(Dallas) and the 3rd location I have visited. For a chain, it is consistantly popular and a great place to come as you are for drinks, music, or pool. They have a wonderful beverage selection, my favorite is the Woodchuck Amber! Yummy!
The food is bar food done well and presentation is nice. There are cozy places too and lots of people, always!
The only thing I suggest is bring cash....they often pre-authorize your tabs for more then you paid and this can get a little annoying if you are on a budget.

Worst experience I had in Austin for the past 22 years!
Not recommended for anyone looking for a nice scotch and good service.
Service was extremely slow and erratic. Bar tenders did not know what single malt scotch they had and did not care to find out.
Cops all over the place and rude employees. I had a very bad experience even after spending lots of money there.
There are lots of other places in Austin that I would recommend over this one.

I went to Sherlock's for happy hour, and left there a very unhappy customer. When my waitress brought me my tab, she had charged my tab onto someone else's credit card. When I brought this to her attention she was extremely flippant and dismissive. She said she had given my card to someone else and that it was gone. While, the manager attempted to smooth things over but voiding the charge for the other people's drinks and not charging me, the end product was that my card that I had entrusted to Sherlock's was given away to someone else, and I have now had to go through the huge inconvenience and hassle associated with canceling a debit card.

While, I understand that mistakes can be made, what determines whether someone is a good waitress, or if a place is a good establishment or a bad establishment is how they handle the situation after the mistake was made. The waitress was not only ridiculously rude, she never apologized! She even interrupted a conversation I was having with a friend about the situation and in a very nasty tone said that she was the one who did it, to which I replied, that yes in fact she was the one who had given my card to another customer and stated that she had yet to apologize. I then asked her if she was going to apologize and she said "NO". I couldn't believe it. At this point I was too flabbergasted to speak so I left the bar while my friends went to go complain to the manager about this latest incident.

Ultimately, there is no excuse for rudeness and that is what I experienced at Sherlock's. A cheap happy hour coupled with decent food, is not worth the horrible service received and having my debit card taken from me.

I loved this place. Heck I down right miss this place. I lived in a crappy apartment up by sherlock's and the only bright side was going to watch the UT games at Sherlock's. I watched the 2005 CWS when Texas won and I fell in love. After that every UT football game I was sitting either infront of the big screen or at the bar. Location is atrocious move to Cedar Park, get away from Lamar lol.

I don't know why I was surprised, but even though it is a chain bar (something I usually avoid) it seemed to have such promise. It is a pub after all--how franchised could it be?

Too much attitude at the door, turning away casually dressed folk (some in shorts, some in tanks--it was almost 100 degrees outside after all) for being too casual--at a pub?? In Austin?? Bad start. The beer selection was pretty good, and they poured my Guinness properly, but it took FOREVER to get the attention of the server, who was chatting with another staff member while I waited, high and dry. Bad too. The pint, while poured correctly, didn't taste all that great. Second pint of Bass tasted fine. When I ordered some food (jalapeno poppers, skins) and offered a credit card to start a tab, I was asked for my license number! Not a glance at my license, to check my identity (which would have been fine), but the number, so it could be entered along with my Amex number on my tab. Card was given back to me and Bar dude said "all bars are doing this now..." Not any other one I have been in in the past 12 years. Bad three.

Food was passable pub grub, nothing special, and the crowd was passable pub crowd, albeit a bit preppier than I am used to. The place is kind of cavernous, especially the bar to the right if the crowd hasnt migrated over that way yet. I felt like I was early or late for the crowd, at 6pm on a Thursday. Not my idea of a friendly neighborhood pub. Overall impressions: too much attitude, sluggish service, average food, good beer selection with some quality issues and bizzare card policies for me.

Back to local bars owned by local folk without the chain store concept hanging over things and ruining what could have been a nice north Austin bar.

I have been to several of the Sherlock's around the state while traveling and they are all a little bit different but wow what a great idea. This place is great. I have a great time every time I step foot in one of these places. The food is great the service is great and how can you beat the specials they have. It is nice to be able to go to a clean inviting environment where the people look great and the atmosphere is all about having a great time.

I live near a Sherlock's Pub in Houston and wish we had a Sherlock's with food now! This place rocks. The "bar" food is just what you want with a with a beer (or two.)

I was in town visiting friends and met them there after work and stayed until midnight! Once you're there, you don't want to leave.

I'll go back every time I'm in Austin. It's a unique, fun place.

Meeting a large group (over 75), but was turned away because I had a sleeves shirt on. "Too casual" was the doorman's response. While he did offer to get me a shirt, I declined. Contacting the group organizer to say not to go there again. Also telling all my friends not to go there (native here so that's a big group). Too bad. Heard some good things, but will never set foot in there.

Completely agree with the person who wrote the review about the terrible way this place is run. I've been there three times and they were clueless each night. They're rude, condescending, and have no clue about their Austin clientele. I have no use for this place and neither should any self-respecting Austinite.

Sherlocks is has a very fun atmosphere and a lot of fun people watching. Unfortunatley the servers there cannot figure out how to take an order nor remember one. My friends and I went there one afternoon and our server was switched out 3 times. Each time we have to start with a new tab and waitress and we were only there for 2 hours. When we finally got our 3rd waitress she was unable to remember our order and which credit card was ours. We tried the scotch eggs and quesadillas but they were not worth their inflated price.

Service, atmosphere, and prices were good - I'd go back. But the food wasn't great (I've eaten a LOT of English bar food, and this food was just "okay"). The waitstaff was great.

Please lose the bathroom attendants. I can get my own towellete from the dispenser, and I don't feel like I need to pay $1 for it.

Great place UNTIL, time goes on, service went down, attitudes went up. I was turned away after due to my jogging pants, and yet dasiy dukes, flipflops, and gauze like pants welcomed. Their excuse "didn't know if you just worked out" as if that mattered, people work out in jeans. I had friends tell me they were turned away, in the day, taking their child there because of smoking. Most recent, my friends b-day party as reluctant as I was on going, I went, for my friend. They kicked out her brother after he had been there a bit no real reason, probably cause he was paying for his drinks, no ruckuss not even drunk, go figure. Needless to say 3 examples of how the pub treats Austinites who have funds to do business. Sherlocks, you guys need to go back to school and take some "business" classes.

I was turned away at the door for wearing Quick Silver board shorts. My clothing was as nice or nicer than half the people in the place but apparently it wasn't the "right type" of clothing! Come On! This is a BAR! You can run your business any way you like but instead of trying to be jerks and embarrass people by turning them away at your door like you are some place special, have the decency to advertise that you have some vain dress code or maybe that you only allow Polos tucked into Dockers with boat shoes, you know, the 80s prep look!

I will not be going back there, that is for sure! Nor will the 500 or so people on my e-mail list!
