The Gallery
At the heart of the Atlanta College of Art, this space intends to stimulate. The gallery explores current cultural issues and ideas through annual student and faculty exhibitions, along with thematic group and solo shows. Historically, the venue has been socially conscious, but since 2000, the gallery has become more playful. Video, digital and traditional media have taken viewers for a ride on the back of an alligator, invited them inside a virtual earthquake and suggested new meaning for coloring books and comics.

The Setting
Italian architect Renzo Piano has redesigned the campus that the college gallery shares with the High Museum of Art, the Alliance Theatre and the Atlanta Symphony. In a move to create a synergetic urban village, the school's dormitory and sculpture studio will be the first sites transformed. The dramatic shift in surroundings is sure to energize this already dynamic space.

Wonderful Classes

by Stacie H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,590

In my ongoing pursuit of a viable hobby, I have signed up several times for classes at the Atlanta College of Art. This school is located right behind the High Museum of Art and has either street or paid parking for students. The first class that I took was Beginning Woodworking. After the first class, I dropped out because the class was clearly not geared towards beginners. I signed up for an Oil Painting class that I loved. The teachers are artists in the community and good at what they do. Be prepared to spend some money on materials but it is worth it.

PROS: Wonderful Classes
CONS: Not enough for beginners to learn
