I read the reviews for this vet before taking my 6 week old puppy in 5 months ago. Obviously, the most recent reviews were not posted yet. I was relieved to find a vet that was touted as "affordable" and "caring". My puppy had not been vaccinated, we had just brought him home from the breeder, he was vomiting and had bloody diarrhea. He is also a Rottweiler. If you google these words together the word PARVO will be in every hit. When I brought my puppy to Dr. Jackson, she came back into the room with a page full of diagnostic tests. She felt that she couldnt possibly determine what it was without running the full gamut. The total of diagnostic tests alone was almost $800.00. The most important tests, in her opinion, were the extremely expensive x-rays. She thought it was most likely that he had swallowed a toy. My husband and I were recent college grads, devoted to our animals, and obviously pregnant with our first child at the time. We explained that we were willing to do anything within reason to diagnose/treat our puppy but that we had a budget. I asked to run the parvovirus test first (which was at the bottom of her list), due to what I had found on Google.
Of course, the test came out positive. She brought an estimate for treatment into the room with the test results. She said the only way to save him was to put him in the overnight hospital on IV fluids and constant supervision. The estimate for this treatment was approximately $500.00 per day. Parvo usually lasts about a week if they pull through. I cried. My husband felt helpless. I asked if there was any way to treat parvo at home. She said that we could try but that it would probably not work and that the IV was the only real way to save him. We felt we had to at least try. She packed a bag of essentials before handing us our bill and scheduling another appointment for the next day. She included six cans of dog food, ear ointment (his ears were itchy- this is completely unrelated), and four kinds of medication. The bill for the first day of diagnostics, initial exam, food, antibiotics, and miscellaneous unheard of fees was almost $350.00.
A friend works at a blood bank so he brought me bags of saline, needles, and tubes. We gave him subcutaneous fluids twice a day for a week to combat the dehydration. We brought him in every day for a shot of anti-nausea medication. She charged us a $40.00 fee every day for a week and a half just to see him- this is in addition to any treatment he received. On day 5, my husband was very concerned that our dog was throwing up his antibiotics and not combating the secondary infection in his tiny stomach. She nodded and said to keep trying. The next day we met with Dr. Z, I mentioned the antibiotic concern again and asked if there was a shot form of the drug. He started on it that day. Why hadnt anyone mentioned this to us??
Every day that we took him to the vet for his necessary shots cost about $200.00. She kept telling me NOT to feed him until he stopped throwing up. He was dying. He laid, moving only to wag his little nub of a tail when we walked in the room, and peed on him self. He had lost all fat and muscle. I HAD to give him something. I consulted my other vet (Google) and found a product called NutriCal. I asked Jackson about it and she said I could try it but that it probably wouldnt work. I bought a tube and began rubbing it on his gums every few hours. He perked up slightly that day. I then realized (almost too late) that Jacksons advice was killing my dog. I began to force feed him broth with his NutriCal. The next day he began eating the food she sold us but told us not to feed him. The road to recovery was much quicker with nutrients in his tiny body.
We spent thousands of dollars keeping our puppy alive. Every bit of advice that Jackson gave me would have killed my dog if I had heeded it. She also told us EVERY DAY we brought him in that we needed to put him on IV fluids or he would die. My dog is now sick again with what might be distemper or pneumonia. He has had all of his vaccinations (from McNeil). We stupidly brought him to doctor Jackson for a diagnosis last week. She brought my husband the infamous sheet filled with X-Rays and obscure blood tests. She thinks he may have swallowed a toy.
Our boy is currently at Round Rock Animal Hospital. Please, for the safety of your bank account and your animals- do not go to this money pit. They care only for your money- not for your animal.

oh my goodness, i met her, too
I met this woman. This is all true. She wanted to charge me about $570 to clean my dog's teeth. Didn't know about the warm blankets, but maybe that is worth a few hundred bucks.

Dr. Jackson Ran Me Off For Good!
I feel like before I start I need to state that I am not broke. We are an average family with a mortgage, car payment and child. This is not about having an animal I cant afford to take care of.
I had moved to the area a year ago and had used Block House Creek Animal Hospital in the past. I loved them. Great vets who were friendly and understanding. The drive was a bit much, so I switched when I adopted a dog. Dr. Z was the first vet I met and she was compassionate and caring.
I adopted two kittens around fathers day and took them in to be checked out and to get their shots. I didnt see Dr. Z which was disappointing, I saw Dr. Jackson. What a lady! She was rude, condescending and high on her horse about animal care! I had an estimate for a teeth cleaning for my older cat that was around $200 from Dr. Z. Dr. Elisa Jackson wanted to charge me $464 for the low end and $784 for the high end. So you understand, my cat is eight. Her teeth arent that bad, but they did need a cleaning. I was shocked with the estimate she gave me. Not just the price of it but the length of the estimate. It almost went the length of the page with all the miscellaneous charges. When I pled my case for why I would not pay that much for my cat to have her teeth cleaned, (namely, I dont pay that much for my dental care or my sons dental care combined , why would I pay that much for my cats dental care?), she of course had a comeback ready. Better anesthesia, warmed blankets and beds, a tech monitoring anesthesia, a tech doing the cleaning and a tech monitoring the cats vitals. She even tried to discredit Dr. Z who had given me the original estimate. I asked if she would rather the cat never get her teeth cleaned than to take off some of the miscellaneous charges. She told me I could save up for it.
Dr. Jackson needed a fecal sample and sent me home with a tube. I have four cats. I asked how I was to tell whose poop belonged to whom. She told me to follow the kittens around until they pooped to get the sample. What kind of advice is that?
When I had the kittens looked at during this visit I found out they came to my home with ringworm. They did a scraping and called me about ten days later to say that it had come back positive. True to form Dr. Jackson had a long list of expenses to cure what ailed my cats. I called Block House to ask their opinion and what they recommended be done to my cats was half of what Dr. Jackson recommended. I took the drive to Block House and had my cats treated.
It is a shame when you find a vet that is more interested in your pocket book than your animals. After meeting Dr. Jackson I will never return to Mc Neil crossing animal clinic.

Best place in town
McNeil Crossing Animal Clinic gave my dog excellent care at a very reasonable price. No doubt, McNeil Crossing is the best vet clinic in town! I took my dog there after another vet couldn't handle him. Dr Zilkha took her time with him and did not make us feel rushed. I felt like she really liked my dog and she wanted to make him feel comfortable. The service was great, the girls there were really friendly and down to earth. The prices at McNeil Crossing are so much cheaper than Banfield which really helps when you're on a tight budget like me. I recommended this place to my mom and all of my friends.

Nice enough, but way overpriced.
I recently took my pet to Dr. Zilkha at McNeil Crossing because my regular vet was closed. She and the people were quite nice, but when I went back to my regular vet, I saw that there were over $100 of "Doctor Supervision", "Nursing Care", and "Hospitalization" fees ON TOP of the exam fee. Some of the tests ran about $40 more than my regular vet does, but of course I was going to pay for all of this because my dog was really sick, and I was visibly beside myself. When I later asked about these extra charges, it was explained to me that each pet gets personal care and extra attention (even though hey said that my dog slept a great deal of the day-- did they stare at her?). If you feel that care and attention are something you have to pay extra for, this is your place. I happen to believe that's a basic requirement of any vet. My regular vet is kind, attentive, and always has time for me and my dog, at half the price.
PROS: Good hours.
CONS: Extremely overpriced for basic service.

This place is great!
This animal clinic is the best I have ever been too. Staff is so nice and the prices are great. Dr. Habbinga is very genuine and has answered all questions very thouroughly about my pet's health. I will continue to visit this animal clinic as long as I have my pets, my search for a great vet is over.
PROS: Great prices, great staff!
CONS: none!

The only place I Trust!
I had to put my Dog down after a horrific experience with another unscruplous vet clinic. The whole staff here was so sweet and compassionate. You can tell by the attitude of the staff that they truely love your pet almost as much as you do. The prices are competitve, but I would pay top dollar for the security and concern that this clinic shows my "babies".

Superlative, compassionate pet care
It is a pleasure to commend the staff of McNeil Crossing Animal Clinic for their exemplary care of my beloved German Shepherd Dog, Thori. From reception to medical history to physical exam to follow-up phone calls, every person in this clean, modern, well-looked after clinic has made Thori (and me) feel welcome and well-cared for. Dr. Elissa Jackson has treated Thori with the utmost gentleness and compassion, especially during some (necessarily) uncomfortable procedures. In addition, Dr. Jackson's exams are extremely thorough, her diagnoses and proscribed treatments are always carefully explained to me, and her use of medications is restrained yet effective. This lady and her colleagues CARE, and Thori and I know it!
Pros: No wait time, very thorough exams, genuine care and concern, clean and up-to-date clinic
Cons: None

Not a friendly place
Please do not subject your animal or your bank account to this vet. Dr. Jackson almost let my dog die while costing us thousands of dollars. Check the reviews at insiderpages - they aren't edited and they are longer.
Pros: ...
Cons: expensive, dismissive, uncaring

Thanks Dr. Jackson!
Melee is sooooo much better. When I noticed she was acting strange, I didnt know how I was going to explain it. Dr. Jackson sat down with me and helped me figure out exactly what I was noticing. She was walking slower, not jumping, peeing outside the litterbox. Little things like that. Nothing big. I figured noone would understand. Dr. Jackson looked her over thoroughly and did some x-rays. Sure enough she had a ruptured disk. It could have gotten so much worse, but thankfully Dr. Jackson was kind enough to listen and get to the bottom of the problem. I would recommend her clinic above all others I have been to.

The Best Value Vet in Town
I am so happy that i found this vet clinic. This days it is hard to find a bargain - i found great care at a very reasonable price. I shopped on the phone and compared exam prices and rabies. They are the cheapest in town so i went there.
I was very impressed from the place, they seem small from the outside but they are so high tech. They love animals, you can see that from the way they great my dog as he enter the door. The stuff is very friendly and always in a good mood. You can tell that they love their job. Dr Jackson was very nice and took her time to answer all my question. Not only that they did not rush me in and out, they really cared that i will know what i need to know about raising a dog. Since it is my first dog and the shelter did not give me any tips it took them quite a while to educate me; but they did not care. They even looked up some stuff for me on their computer system.
Those days, when most doctors see you as a $$$, its really nice to know that there are some good ones left that practice quality medicine with the need of the animal in mind and not the wallet of the owner.
Highly reccomended.
Pros: High tech, good medicine, low prices.
Cons: Not open Sunday

This is a real nice clinic. The receptionist was really friendly & efficient. The location is convenient to get to. Dr Jackson is very thorough in her exam. It is evident that she really cares about my cat & very knowledgeable about how to deal with difficult patients. The technician was very helpful & right there when she was needed. They have top of the line equipment incase we ever need it. Nice clean neat place. Price was reasonable.
