As an avid caver in the Black Hills,I can understand why some people are a little intimidated by this cave attraction. Yes,the cave is located down a twisty road, because the cave lies at the bottom of a great limestone canyon. Simple geology. I would also agree that the Stairs leading down to the main portion of the cave are very steep. Take your time, and watch your step. Coming back up,there are landings along the way,to stop and rest. The cave tour itself is fairly small, but the Spar crystal,is very large! This is quite rare, even for a Black Hills cave. That is the draw for this cave. Also, the owner is very accomodating....Want to take a spelunk trip? There is another cave on the property that is perfect for it. Right next to the main cave,is another walk in cave, that's very easy to explore. There is also a great walking trail down the limestone canyon, that runs the length of their property. In other words,to truly appreciate the whole experience, take some time when you are there,to really check it out,and walk around.

This cave is not for little kids. They have very steep stairs to go down. Even as an adult I did not like going down them. Plus the road to get there is very narrow and curvy. We took a bus there and had a hard time getting to it. The price is cheap but I still would not go there again.

We had limited time, so we visited Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns instead of one of the larger Cave tours in the area. We enjoyed seeing the caves where Sitting Bull and his people had stayed on occasion, and the crystal formations inside were fascinating. It was a very steep climb down the ladders, and I woudn't recommend it if you aren't steady on your feet. We brought our just turned 2 year old, and carried him down the ladders with us, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It was a bit nervewracking and if I'd slipped it would have been disastrous!!! It's not worth risking it if you aren't absolutely sure you're capable!

PROS: Nice crystal formations, short tour.
CONS: Very steep ladder, very little variation in the caves.
