Rude,Rude,Rude! I have been with them for over three years. You can not contact any of the people who actually book you for work. Those numbers are only given to the "call in services" who charge you to get jobs, and their friends . I was booked on a show for a 6 a.m. call. I got up at 4, got ready, drove to the set and was told I was not booked. When I asked if I was going to get paid, because I am in the union, she said it was not her problem, that I had to take it up with my call in service. That was it! I hung up and the witch at central had the nerve to call me back and yell at me for hanging up on her. When I was explaining that I had not hung up on her...guess what, she hung up on me. Yeah real class act you guys got going there.

Called my info tape for details around 3 hours before call time on set and discovered that Central/Extras made a mistake. Once again, they had booked me to a location that I specified not to be sent to. "Do you want to cancel?" I replied yes and politely informed the female correspondent at Central that I was NOT supposed to be sent out to that area because I already exercised your sister company's (Extras) option of marking that destination down as a no-go policy zone due to excessive mileage.

"Why are you just NOW calling me to cancel?!" I replied, ??Now? I shouldn't be calling you AT ALL in the first place. So I don't understand why are you trying to change the subject to something completely irrelevant." She instantly barked, "It's relevant because had you just called us sooner, we could've fixed the problem we caused and assigned a replacement! But because you called us so late to cancel, we don't have enough time now to find anyone else to replace you!"

The interrogation continued with, ??Why did you call your info tape so late?!? I responded, "What difference does it make what hour I call the info tape if I get to set on time like everyone else? 2+2=4 and so is 2x2, correct? So what difference does it make whether we apply addition or multiplication considering the numerical result or final outcome is precisely the same? If the final outcome is me showing up on time regardless, what difference does it make what time I call?"

"It makes a difference to us because now we can't fix the problem we caused based on your decision to cancel! Had you simply checked your details earlier by calling earlier, you could've spotted the mistake we made and reported it to us sooner! But because you checked your details so late by calling late, we can't fix it now! You understand!? So this is all YOUR fault!!!" WOW. Hey Einstein, you understand this. You wouldn't even need to seek a replacement had I not cancelled, correct? What need for me to cancel if you guys hadn't fumbled the ball in the first place?

I said, ??I??m already losing work because of this and you??re trying to blame me??
She screamed, "THAT'S NOT MY PROBLEM! YOU KNOW WHAT?! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! YOU'RE BEING VERY RUDE, VERY IRRESPONSIBLE, VERY IMMATURE AND YOU'RE ACTING LIKE A CHILD!!! THOUSAND OAKS TOO FAR, RIGHT?! WHERE ELSE DON'T YOU WANNA GO!? WHAT ABOUT MANHATTAN BEACH!? THAT TOO FAR FOR YA!? PROBABLY, RIGHT?! LET'S GET RID OF THAT TOO THEN! HOW ABOUT THAT, HUH?! MIGHT AS WELL! SAVE US THE TROUBLE!" I'm certain she would've continued her tirade except another incoming call needed to be addressed.

She told me her name was Lisette and I immediately reported this incident to the manager at Extras Management (Kim) and she did reply with a sincere apology. Kim informed me that she would contact Lisette personally and call me back with the details of her investigation. I was extremely relieved when Kim reassured me that this was NOT my fault and there's nothing to worry about. She ended the conversation by saying, "On behalf of Extras Management and Central Casting, we like to extend our most sincere apologies for this morning."

Kim called me later that evening saying, ??You really need to start explaining yourself why you didn't call for details sooner. Because I need an explanation RIGHT NOW to report back to Central why you decided to call so late. I thought you were in the clear but now I'm retracting my apology and you BETTER have a great explanation!" WTF?!
Kim later says, "So now that I know the whole story, you know what? Lisette was right all along. This IS your fault! You screwed up big!" In absolute disbelief, I asked, ??Is this Kim?" She confirmed it was and without a heartbeat, immediately continued to pursue crucifixion on behalf of Central. Amazing how Kim pretends to be civil one moment then unite forces with the Gestapo across the street and stab me in the back hours later.

My incident with Lisette/Kim reminds me of one I experienced back in grade school. I uncovered my teacher had mistakenly assigned the wrong homework to the entire class after she had already left campus. I approached the nearby principle regarding the matter and he asked, "Well whut da hell you expect me to do about it? Huh!? Had you decided to be smart and check your homework sooner, you could've reported that to the teacher and she could've fixed it already! Right!? Now she's gone and because of you, the entire class is stuck doing the wrong homework. So you better have a good explanation as to why you decided to check your homework so late!" Hey ladies, this sounds familiar to you?

It would seem you girls have cleverly dodged a bullet with production by scapegoating me as your "frame-up" crash test dummy fall guy. Deviously managed to dodge a bullet at my expense but inadvertently stepped on this landmine along the process. How smart is that? Good luck dodging this one.

Central is not nearly as bad as some are trying to paint them. However, the courts did find them guilty of some labor pay stuff, and I do need, very much, to learn the names of the attorneys for both sides in that suit, in the 90s. So if you could help, I would greatly appreciate it, but not to the point of kick-backs!

I first started out with Central back in the day when the television series FAME rolled into production, My contact then was Artie and I worked plenty of times on vaious commercials and tv and film, I have been out for quite awhile now, but I NEVER EVER have had or will have anything negative to say about Central! SURE, times have changed Its all about PERSONALITY and who you get to know and meet up with inside this INDUSTRY! I think its about time for me to get back into the swing of things and get back to acting/background...whatever it takes! =-)

Central Casting will disrespect you! Central Casting is a waste of money. Many of the employees at Central Casting are rude. There is not enough work in the movie industry these days and the Central Casting emplyees cannot help you. Whenever you try to call the "work lines" the phones are busy, even if you get through there is no sure way that Central Casting will find you work in any entertainment industry projects. Back in the 1990's Central Casting got into a lawsuit because the non-union employees were being paid below minimum wage.

There is no health insurance provided by Central Casting for the talent who sign on. Sometimes the employees and crew at Central Casting will play cruel practical jokes on the people who line up to register and want to work in fims and tv. If you complain, nobody will believe you and you may even get blacklisted and will never get any work again. Most of the people who answer the phones at Central Casting will disrespect you. The people at the office in Central Casting have no ID tags so they can lie about who they are or what they do. Sometimes scam artists from outside who do not even work at Central Casting come in and promise phoney jobs or connections to people, but Central Casting will never warn you. There is no parking lot for most of the people who wish to visit. You might get a parking ticket if you try to park nearby. Central Casting is a dump! BEWARE AND STAY AWAY FROM CENTRAL CASTING.

Sooner or later somebody at Central Casting will try to write a note calling me a liar. Here is what I suggest, go there and ask people who are already signed on if they can actually support themselves by getting work from Central Casting? Ask about what kind of health care you can get once you do find work? Ask about your rights, harassment policies, and who to speak with when you have complaints? Ask about how non-union talent is disrespected and you will discover that: CENTRAL CASTING IS A WASTE OF MONEY!

Special Note: Central Casting is actually part of a much larger monopoly company called-Entertainment Partners. Extras Management is also part of the Central Casting/Entertainment Partners scam.

i have been a member for a year and a half, i submit everyday online and i just booked 1 day of work last month. that has been the only time i have worked. when i called to ask why i have not been given more work, i was told that they have many people who submit and everyone has to have a chance. so why charge $25 to work once.

I can count on one finger the numebr of jobs I've gotten thru Central, and that wa sonly because they contacted me, which I've been told is extremely rare (happened only once about 2 years ago). After registering, I eagerly called in daily tpo no avail. Getting through is next to impossible. The odds are VERY slim to nil. Word on the street is you do in fact need to pay a call service to secure work on your behalf.

Their "system" is misleading and antiquated. I dont understand why they don't uipdate it and make it so clients actually have a reasonable (key word here is reasonable) shot at getting work. If they know you're unliklely to get work, why not be upfront about it? It's because they get your $25 and another body to add to their database.

Now a days you have to pay one of those extra management places if you want to get booked in central casting. This is the truth: what they are looking for is high end vehicles or very old beaten up ones (no whites, no blacks, no light colors in most cases); always looking for Caucasian HOT HOT HOT super hot guys and ladies. So, if you have that type of car or you are as hot as they want, you are pretty much guaranteed booking a job.
That if you can get through when you call the answering line which is busy 95% of the time. Reallyn, if you are not known or does not have a management service to call and book for you (which costs around $75.00 per month) you pretty much have very slim shots to work.
Central Casting does not contact talent in most of cases, you have to call their line if you want to know if they need someone like you.
If you are non union, chances are you will stay that way until you get your lucky star that day and the AP's in the production need your help and offer you a union boucher. Good luck!

I disagree with Superstar D. who said that it was difficult to get work if you aren't Caucasian. Yes, there are a few shows that require mainly Caucasian, but I am of Asian descent and get work regularly with Central. At least 3 times a week as long as I am doing my best to call in. I know many people who are SAG or N/U and get work 4/5 days a week with a calling service.

Central Casting is legit. They send you to real movies and tv sets. There are many other companies that will send you to pornography sets and other shady places like that.

I've been with Central Casting for almost a year now, and can count on one hand how many times I've found work. If you are "Ethnic" it is harder than Caucasians to get booked.
I've had good experiences when I get booked, but honestly it is really hard to secure a spot when you're a minority.

Central Casting is the giant casting company that casts extras for almost all productions in Los Angeles. From ER to War of the Worlds, Central Casting was and is responsible for placing background artists - both union and non-union.

When I first moved to LA, I registered with Central. Within three months, I was a member of SAG. Within four months, I was a member of AFTRA. While their registration process is a bit of a cattle call, you can certainly look for at least three jobs per week.

The people are relatively nice to deal with. Do try to cultivate relationships with casting directors. They do play favorites here... If they like you, they'll go that extra mile to find you work.

If you're new to Hollywood and looking to try your hand in the movies or on TV - this is a great place to start - they cast extras and background performers for both - if you are consistently available when called on to work - you will work more often. They cast both non union and union actors - so even if you have no experience - you can still find yourself on a movie set.

Okay so you thought about working on a big Steven Spielberg movie and your favorite TV sitcom Joey.....well you've come to a right place, sort of. Central represents union members so if you are new, you would be starting from Cenex - which has now merged with Central so now it's all under one umbrella but they used to be two separate companies. Your paystub will indicate which you belong to. This company books background performers for TV/films with some occasional print and promo jobs. Over all, I am happy with their service but as with anyone else, I had my share of bad experience. Lesson learned? Always be cautious and know what you want. Don't be afraid to demand what you deserve but never be obnoxious.
