Mama's Food Shop

This down-home East Village restaurant is not wher you want to go if you are on a diet. The food is so good that you will want to eat everything on the menu. My favorites are fried chicken, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. There is fresh lemonade in the summer, and giant cookies for dessert. Cash only.

It really is the way your mom makes it: limited selection, heaping servings of comfort food (fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fish, green beans, meat loaf) served from behind a counter. that means no wait. and it also means pure deliciousness. one plate for ten dollars. Not terribly cheap, but Mama won't send you home empty handed--you WILL have leftovers.
