Absolutely World Class Gym - I should know  5 Star Rating - World class

I travel a lot for work, and always go to a gym in the local city to keep stress down and body in shape, so I'm able to compare FIT to say, Taipei, Melbourne, London, Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago, Mumbai, and so on. I also maintain a blog on good gyms worldwide. Aside from a few gyms I've been to in New York City, FIT is one of the best gyms I've been to, ever. I'm not sure where the other postings are coming from, but from my perspective, there simply isn't even another gym in Houston that can compete with great bodybuilding equipment, clean locker rooms, location, easy tanning, plenty of cardio equipment, unlimited towels, shaving equipment, smoothies, coffee, internet lounge, and on and on. Likewise when I bring friends to FIT, they are usually shocked at how attractive all the people are, like stepping into a Men's Fitness magazine (I'm male, mostly weight training and cardio). I also have detected zero attitude, and always look forwards to workouts.

Fit Club  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I did not get my money's worth at fit athletic club. The women's locker room does not have any private rooms to change in, you literally have to undress in front of one another. The management staff is very rude. They do not even smile at you. They have these overpriced fitness promotions that go on that only a select few in the club can afford to attend while the rest of us just get discarded during their promotional events. It was nice for a couple of months, but now I'm totally over it. There is a lot of member turnover because you rarely ever see the same faces. I was paying $70/month and it's just not worth it anymore.

worst gym ever  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

do not ever make the mistake of joining this gym. dirty locker rooms. their sales people are a bunch of liars. my credit card was charged without my permission and nobody would talk to me about it. i have seen much better gyms for much cheaper.

the staff could definitely use some work on their attitude.

Fundamental Assessment  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

In theory FIT Athletic Club is an excellent model. It is trendy, hip, has new machines and centrally located.

However, there sems to be totally ineffective senior and middle management. The plasma screens are often blank screened, mens locker rooms are trashed, cardio equipment broken, hand sanitizer machines empty, tanning booths falling apart, and front door personnel that are students, studying their books, instead of greeting members.

Infrastructurally sound club, yet inferior maintenance standards.

PROS: location, trend, clientele, equipment
CONS: maintenance of equipment, cleanliness of shower areas, parking

Best for the money in Houston!  5 Star Rating - World class

The facilities rival that of the Houstonian, but you don't have the pretentiousness or the unbelievable cost. I've never engaged a trainer there, but they have been willing to answer a quick question or to give a tip. It's a young, good looking crowd, but everyone seems to be cool. There aren't a lot of cliques running the place, and the fitness level of the people varies without reaching a meathead standard too often. The locker rooms are plush.

Great inner-looper gym  5 Star Rating - World class

Fit River Oaks is a great place for the fitness minded who also like their cushy amenities. This gym even smells good, with a modern decor and very nice locker rooms. Fit has a cafe with internet access, a sushi bar, smoothies, coffee, and healthy pre-prepared meals. The group fitness classes are hard to beat, especially the yoga classes. Some of the best yoga instructors in Houston can be found here. Relatively expensive compared to the big box gyms, but worth it for the trendy, upwardly mobile crowd. They even have live dj's spinning some nights.

PROS: Equipment, group classes, personal training, locker rooms, on-site tanning
CONS: Price, can be hard to find parking at peak times

Great Gym, Great Location 4 Star Rating - Very good

I'm really suprised to read some of those bad reivews. I have been working at at FIT for 2 years now and I have never had any problems with a lot of broken equipment, the AC not being cold enough(?), or rude staff. I agree very much with one review that said "why are you even talking to the staff if they are rude to you?" Other than the passing hello, I have not had a full conversation with a staff member since I joined two years ago. The gym has a plethora of high tech work out equipment and they are constanly getting the latest and greatest thing (especially for cardio), also it's the most convinently located gym for me. The only complaint I have ever had about FIT is that sometimes it gets really crowed after work Monday through Wednesday and there have been times when I wished they opened earlier than 8am on the weekends. But overall, I think it's a first class gym!!

Pros: Clean, Great Equipment, Great Location
Cons: Sometimes gets crowded

World Class Gym 5 Star Rating - World class

I travel a lot for work, and always go to a gym in the local city to keep stress down and body in shape, so I'm able to compare FIT to say gyms in Taipei, Melbourne, London, Denver, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Chicago, Mumbai, and so on. I also maintain a blog on good gyms worldwide. Aside from a few gyms in New York City, FIT is one of the best gyms I've been to, ever. I'm not sure where the other postings are coming from, but from my perspective, there simply isn't even another gym in Houston, in Texas, or in this part of the country that can compete with great bodybuilding equipment, clean locker rooms, location, easy tanning, plenty of cardio equipment, unlimited towels, shaving equipment, smoothies, coffee, internet lounge, and on and on. The new Gold's Dallas might... but then they don't have the amenties. It's mazing to see the combination done right. Likewise when I bring friends to FIT, they are usually shocked at how attractive all the people are, like stepping into a Men's Fitness magazine (I'm male, mostly weight training and cardio). And in two years, I don't see a big turnover. I see the same faces again and again. I also have detected zero attitude, and always look forwards to workouts. There are a number of people here who complain about "broken machines" or "broken cardio" (and I note, frequently posted with poor grammar) - they seem to be going to a completely different gym than FIT. I've been going to gyms for 26 years, and have yet to see one which has perfectly operating equipment 100% of the time, so I think it's time for a reality check. I have never experienced anything except a professional, can-do attitude among the staff. One small example: once when I asked if the music be turned down, "no problem" and done 15 seconds later. Lastly the gym is squeaky clean. Big plus for me!

FIT is hands down the BEST gym in Houston! 5 Star Rating - World class

I have been a member of FIT for 2 years and absolutely LOVE it. It's more expensive than your average 24 Hour Fitness-type gyms but you get what you pay for. The ambience, equipment, classes and friendly staff all make FIT a great place to work out. The classes range in levels of difficulty so not to worry if you are a beginner...nor if you become better and want to take more advance classes. Though it was slightly intimidating for me at first, since a lot of members are in great physical shape...it became encouraging to see what results could be for me if I kept at it.

The only complaint I have is the music is not always that great (techno) but that's why I bring my IPOD! They also have a variety of primetime shows on the TVs facing the cardio equipment. Sometimes I get sucked into watching a good show and forget Im even on the Treadmill.

If you're teetering on joining....you should definitely try it out and see if it's for you. Its close to downtown so if you work anywhere in the vicinity, its convenient!

Pros: Ambience & classes

I felt degraded! 1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

OMG! The women's dressing room does not even have private, individual clothes-changing rooms. You literally have to undress in front of everybody. I felt highly degraded.

Pros: Nice View
Cons: Rude Staff and inadequate accommodations

Great Workout Environment 5 Star Rating - World class

I have been a member for about 2 years and me and my fiancee absolutely love it. The staff is friendly and professional. The gym itself and the equipment is clean. The bathrooms are very clean, unfortunately that cant be said for most gyms. THERE IS PLENTY OF PARKING SPACE--you are going to the gym to workout anyways--it is not vital that the parking be found right at the front of the entrance. Fit is great for anyone who would like to workout in a trendy, CLEAN atmosphere.

Pros: very clean
