The instructors are excellent and the classes are well thought out and professional and fun. I love the classes and the location of this gym.

The only problem with FIT is the mangement and they are not keeping this upscale gym clean and maintained. They are too busy trying to sell $10K worth of memberships monthly and most of their energy should be geared toward keeping this upper scale health club, clean and inviting to new and old members. Other than this, it's a great health club and the people are friendly and the same faces and new are in all of the classes.

I always recommend FIT and love it regardless if they don't keep it as clean as it should be kept.

When I first inquired on the classes at this club, I was told by the General Manager that the cost to join was $40-$75. I was only interested in Thurs/Fri group class. I was told $40 but then he quoted me a higher rate of $75 after I told him that the class I was interested in was after 3pm. See, the cost to join is $40 ONLY if you are going to work out between 8am-3pm. If you decided to work out after those hours, the cost elevates to $75. Nice huh?

I tried to negotiate by referring a friend, but he wouldn't budge. I told him that we were both under contracts at another club and his attitude was basically, "too bad". Well, too bad for him -- even for the great classes that we were only going to attend 1x a week, we were not going to spend $75 a month.

I travel a lot for work, and always go to a gym in the local city to keep stress down and body in shape, so I'm able to compare FIT to say, Taipei, Melbourne, London, Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago, Mumbai, and so on. I also maintain a blog on good gyms worldwide. Aside from a few gyms I've been to in New York City, FIT is one of the best gyms I've been to, ever. I'm not sure where the other postings are coming from, but from my perspective, there simply isn't even another gym in Houston that can compete with great bodybuilding equipment, clean locker rooms, location, easy tanning, plenty of cardio equipment, unlimited towels, shaving equipment, smoothies, coffee, internet lounge, and on and on. Likewise when I bring friends to FIT, they are usually shocked at how attractive all the people are, like stepping into a Men's Fitness magazine (I'm male, mostly weight training and cardio). I also have detected zero attitude, and always look forwards to workouts.

I did not get my money's worth at fit athletic club. The women's locker room does not have any private rooms to change in, you literally have to undress in front of one another. The management staff is very rude. They do not even smile at you. They have these overpriced fitness promotions that go on that only a select few in the club can afford to attend while the rest of us just get discarded during their promotional events. It was nice for a couple of months, but now I'm totally over it. There is a lot of member turnover because you rarely ever see the same faces. I was paying $70/month and it's just not worth it anymore.

In theory FIT Athletic Club is an excellent model. It is trendy, hip, has new machines and centrally located.

However, there sems to be totally ineffective senior and middle management. The plasma screens are often blank screened, mens locker rooms are trashed, cardio equipment broken, hand sanitizer machines empty, tanning booths falling apart, and front door personnel that are students, studying their books, instead of greeting members.

Infrastructurally sound club, yet inferior maintenance standards.
