Ratings_icons Very Good

Located right across the beach, this place has a nice view. You can eat inside or out on the terrace. A little on the high side with prices, but the food is good.

Ratings_icons Very nice atmosphere cafe

This cafe is on the beach with very nice views. It's very cute place looks like a spanish house from the outside, where the best seats are on the terrace so you can see the view. The menu is a bit pricy but if you can afford it I would definatly go. Their seafood is really good. The service was perfect. The beauty is the view. Definatly try it atleast once.

PROS: nice views

Ratings_icons Casablanca Cafe ~ Great Food, So-so Service

On the main stretch of Lauderdale Beach between the 17th street causeway and Sunrise there are two distinct districts. To the south is the uppity touristy crowd, to the north the less expensive hotels and shopping. In between the two areas is a short stretch with little there right now. It's a nice walk in the cool summer evening, and right in the center of that pseudo-empty stretch is a little place called the Casablanca Cafe.

They do have an inside, but most of the seating is outside on the terrace, on two levels, and all seats have great ocean views. Smoking is allowed out here, but not inside.

At first glance prices may seem a bit high to some folks, but really they're right in line with the rest of the beach establishments, if not actually a bit less. Plus, if you remember to ask them for the Lunch Special, it gets even better. You see, if you're in the know, you can buy one meal, and get the second one free here. You do have to both buy a beverage, but ice tea works.

I always like to start off with their Lobster Bisque ($7 per cup). It is pretty darn good with plenty of lobster bits and a nice subtle flavoring. Actually, I have been known to wander over here just to get this.

Then you can go on to the Surf-n-turf for $29 which comes with a small Alaskan tail which was hard on the top, yet slightly underdone on the bottom (good flavor though) and a decent-size filet which was very tender, but I could have done without the mushroom gravy which got all over the lobster though... dang it. Still. If you're two-fering it, that's only 15 bucks a piece.

As to the service, well, that's a bit so-so. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's sketchy at best, and once it was downright surly. It's never been outstanding. However, given the atmosphere, scenery, the food, and the deal... well.. yeah. I still do go there. It's worth it.

PROS: Good food, wonderful view
CONS: sketchy service
