Vandergriff Honda is Scam Artist dealership Avoid them

by T H.

Avoid Vandergriff Honda. Liars and POS dealership. Tried to switch pricing on my elderly father. Had a price nailed down with Ray Jones for $27000.00 out the door. Ray quoted price befor TT and L and gave the total price as stated above. When my dad went to sign the papers and pickup the car the scam started. Ray said that they forgot to calculate the tax and it would cost $1600.00 more. Ray is a is a scam artist and a liar. Do not trust this dealership when it sends you a low price. If your reading this post you are doing your research. All the negative posts are true. All the positive posts are written by Vandergriff Honda. You have been warned do not go to Vandergriff Honda.

Vandergriff Honda is A JOKE

by nina l.

All the complaints mentioned are true!!!! Anyone that says they had a positive experience with these people have to be made up. It would not surprise me if the employees were creating these reviews the way they create signatures of customers. Anyone like one of the above mentioned victims that purchased a car from them with Americredit as there lienholder better beware. If I were you I would carefully review my contract and its signatures as well as your credit application to be certain that its yours. This dealer as well as other Van Tuyl dealerships practice the same cohersive unethical and the majority of the time illegal practices. They often lie about the coverage on warranties purchased by customers and charge outragous prices for them when you could purchase them from the manufacturer for a more resonable price with better coverage. There is no such thing as customer loyalty when you enter their dealerships you are immediately profiled by your appearance. They don't see a person they see only dollar signs. They charge for products on the car that don't exist, they leave items off of the purchase agreement and most of the time they are able to get away with it. These practices are ignored because Charlie Evans (the only christian I know that swears like a sailor and would probably cheat his own mother) sells alot of cars there so the chain he works for looks the other way and plays dumb. Its quite a shame that someone like him can taint the image of the product he sales. Many customers have purchased other vehicle makes because they received better treatment by other dealers. Honda is a great reliable product, the franchise needs to wake up and take a serious look at how they are being represented. So if you have been a victim of these practices as I have don't take it lying down do something about it we the consumer have spent are hard earned money and deserve to be dealt with like human beings. Remember this is supposed to be an exciting experience and there are plenty of dealers that would value YOU and YOUR BUSINESS SO GIVE IT TO THEM!!!!!!!!!!

Vandergriff Honda is AMAZING!

by Lauren B.

Wow! I was a little bit apprehensive to post this since it seems that I am the odd man out... However I thought this dealership did a tremendous job. They had the vehicle that I wanted and I didn't have any problems utilizing the cash for clunkers program. I thought the facility was great and was even able to enjoy a fresh made latte while I waited to do my paperwork! My sales person Jessica in internet stayed in contact with me both before and after I purchased the car. I love it, and look forward to bringing my car into service for my first oil change in another month or so. Thanks VANDERGRIFF you are terrrific!

Vandergriff Honda is THE WORST DEALERSHIP EVER!

by MICHELLE S.

Is there a negative Star rating? If there were that's what I would give them. I owned a 1998 Ford Explorer that I was letting my son drive... had it for 5 years. We were going to use it for the Cash for Clunkers deal on a 2009 Honda Civic. I read these blogs before we went to the dealership, but I tried to keep an open mind. We went up there on Thursday 8/20 on my lunch. I specifically told them what we were willing to spend ($15,000) based on the pre-approved loan my son got from our credit union. We test drove the Civic and were talking to Mike, the salesman, and after the haggling (which I never moved from the $15k I mentioned when I walked in the door), the lowest price they came to was $16,100. I told them no deal, I didn't mind walking away. Before I got back to work, they called and came down to $15,500. WMy son and I talked about it and agreed to pay that price for it. As my son works nights, I went back to the dealership to sign my part of the paperwork. At that time I was told what was required for the Cars for Clunkers rebate. I had everything except to show 1 complete year of registration. Since this was Aug 09, I had to show registration from aug 08. Well the Explorer got registered 11/08. My son went to the sub courthouse and told them what he needed and that it was for the Cars for Clunkers, she printed out a record showing the tags had been registered for 3 years. We took that back up there on Saturday 8/22 along with the checks from the credit union. The finance mgr said that record from the sub courthouse wouldn't work for the Cash for Clunkers and since it was going to be over on Monday and they wouldn't be able to get through to send in their stuff on Monday, he couldn't take it. I said ok, sounds like this deal is off... he goes, no I'm not saying that. I tell him, govt offices are closed on the weekend, can't go back up there til Monday to get additional registration info. He gets the general mgr who repeats the same thing, I said again, sounds like this deal is off. He goes, don't get mad at me, I just don't want to set you up for something that might not happen. I'm telling him, I'm not mad, hadn't raised my voice once. But if the deal is off, then just say so. Then he starts explaining again. I said if you won't say it, I will, the deal is off. My money spends just as well elsewhere. What ticks me off is, THEY call me back to make an offer. We went to a Ford dealership that same day, Saturday, and drove out with a 2010 Ford Focus... no problems, no haggling, no back and forth with the manager, nothing. My recommendation...NEVER SHOP VANDERGRIFF HONDA OR ANY OTHER AUTO THEY SELL!!

Vandergriff Honda is one of many dealers in the metroplex to avoid

by Ray A.

For all of you who are dissatisfied with any Vandergriff store, you can't complain to these people. This is among many stores (including Toyota of Dallas & Richardson, Trophy Nissan, Westway Ford, Crest Cadillac, Reliable Chevrolet, Texas Toyota in Grapevine, Grand Prairie Ford, Van Chevrolet) that is owned by the Van Tuyl Group. Their service was soooo bad that they were run out of Kansas where their headquarters is over a decade ago; nobody would work for them. The only way to fight these jerks is to file complaints with the manufacturer. Eventually, if their customer service index is so poor, the manufacturer will take away the franchise and give it to a deserving owner. Do not blame the Vandergriff family, they only sold the Honda, Buick, Chevrolet, and Acura stores to them in 1997. The Toyota store was added later. FYI...Central Kia, Clay Cooley, Rodeo Ford, and the Southwest dealer group isn't much better. If you are looking for a good deal and good service, look for private owned dealers (Ford - Rod in Fleet at Bankston Ford Arlington, Chevrolet - Friendly, Honda - Ben Franklin @ John Eagle Dallas, Toyota - Freeman, Lexus - Park Place, Infiniti & Cadillac - Sewell, Pontiac/GMC/Buick - Sewell, Hyundai/Kia/Suzuki - your on your own, Dodge - Bohnam Chrysler Dodge/Randall Noe Dodge/or Carrol Sigman @ Berry in Corsicana).

Vandergriff Honda is Rude and Untruthful

by Beverly G.

I was looking for a Honda Fit, and it turned into a battle. They salesperson held my keys and my driver's license hostage while they tried to convence me to buy a car at their price. I had to ask 3 times for my keys and driver's license. Each time I was left to sit in an office and wait 10 or 15 minutes until they came back without my keys or license. Did they honestly think they could wear me down enough to buy a car from them. I will never shop for a Honda again. Went to Toyota of Fort Worth and had the best experience buying a car. Love my new Scion.

Vandergriff Auto is not trust-worthy

by Chris M.

There is noooooo way that I would buy a car from these guys !

First of all, they quoted a price HIGHER than what they were advertising it as. Secondly, they would not let us take it to a mechanic. They told us people have died recently when doing so, so now their insurance company won't let you do that. Yet, I see from another blogger that they just did so on July 3rd ! Thirdly, what dealership tells YOU what they paid for the car ? None ! But that is exactly what the car sales guy was telling us. Attempted to show us that they were selling us what THEY paid for it.

I don't have a problem with high-pressure tactics. To me, it's actually fun to listen to all the "fun stuff" that comes out of their mouths. Reason being, I know it's a bunch of bull. So, when you know what's coming, it's not stressful. It can be funny to listen to. And these guys DEFINITELY had a lot of stories to tell.

I don't understand why they think people are STUPID !! We aren't ! We know when they lie ! Just because we don't say it to your face doesn't mean we don't know you're feeding us bull !

I agree with some other bloggers. Lie after lie. I would never buy a car at Vandergriff Auto,...anywhere.

Crooked, unethical, bunch of liars. Buying a car here is like a root canal.

by Frank D.

I wanted to buy a good used vehicle for my 16 year old son who was just getting his license. Vandergriff Honda in Arlington TX. was advertising certified 2009 Honda Civics and Accords for a great price. The ad said that they had 500 of them. When I got there I was told that they didn't have any left but they would try and help me. I wanted to leave and should have but my salesman showed me a certified 2006 Civic that looked good. He spoke to the sales manager who said he would sell it to me for the sale price of the 2009 even though the sticker price was a lot more. I told him that he would have to do better than that since it was a 2006. I took the car home and showed my son. He liked the car and my wife, son, and I drove back to the dealership that night. They didn't want to sell me the car for the sales price but we finally agreed on a price and I bought the vehicle. I told them that I would finance it through my credit union but they wanted me to finance it through them. I wanted to go home since it was 10:30pm on a week night and I had to work the next day. They pressured us into the finance office where we were told that they needed my information to run my credit to make the deal. I told them that I was going through my credit union and that we wanted to leave. Again we were pressured into staying later. I didn't want to be rude. They also wanted us to take the car home but it needed an item fixed on it so we did not want to take delivery. We ended up leaving the dealership without the car and with a loan agreement from them which they said they would rip up if I decided to go through my credit union. We got home at 1:00 am and I had to take off of work the next day! I felt like I was in a fist fight and lost!!! The next day I called my credit union and had everything approved. My credit union called me and told me they didn't know why they were having such a problem with receiving the paperwork. The finance department kept jacking around my credit union! The used car general manager called me and told me that it was going to cost too much to fix the item that was wrong with the car and that they were backing out of the deal!!! I was extremely upset after all my family and I had gone through the night before. He went on to say that I couldn't even get financing through my credit union and that they didn't contact his financing department! I blew my stack and told him that my credit union was trying to complete the deal all day with his finance guy! I also told him that I wouldn't buy his Honda if he gave it to me for free. One lie after another, I wonder if anyone there knows the word truth. Not to say that my son was hurt and the abuse my family went through. Don't ever go to this dealership unless you are a masochist.

NEVER BUY A CAR HERE!!! THEY RIPPED US OFF!!

by Mark C.

$12000.00 UPSIDE DOWN ON A USED CAR I BOUGHT FROM THEM IN 8K MILES!!.My wife and I bought a 2006 CRV From Vandergriff honda one year ago. We have payed $3500 in principal over the last year and only put 8K miles on it. We have another baby on the way and wanted to trade for a larger SUV, our current payment are $400 a month and we were willing to go to around $500. We were insulted when they came back saying we were $12000 upside down on a used vehicle we purchased from them one year ago that had 29k miles and now has 37k miles. They then further insulted us by saying in order to finance soo much supposed "negative equity" we would have to put $6000 down and pay $850 a month on another used pilot!!. a 14.75% interest rate while we are currently financed at 8% and have bank offers for 7-9 percent, however a "real" bank won't let you pay that much for a used car!!. I believe they use fraudulent financing practiced in order to sell overpriced cars at high interest rates and receive "kickbacks" from the banks they use.NEVER BUY A CAR THERE!! YOU WILL LOSE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!!

I wish I had read these reviews before I wasted my afternoon

by Vicki B.

I wasted an entire afternoon there. I called this morning and told the internet salesman how much I have to spend on a used or possibly new vehicle. (I have done weeks of internet research about the vehicle I was interested in and am familiar with prices in our area.) I was expecting to talk about used cars and was surprised when the salesman said he could get me into a new car for the price I told him I can spend. I said, "Really?" and he said yes. I drove all the way over there and inquired several times if he was going to be able to do business at my price and was assured he could. I drove a car, looked at colors and was ready to write a check when the salesman suddenly said the price was around $7,000 more than the price I had been asking him about since 9:00am this morning. If he had been truthful with me this morning, I wouldn't have wasted my (or his) time. All I want is an honest and upfront dealership. Is that too much to ask? I wish I had videotaped it for YouTube.

Vandergriff Rocks!

by Sarah L.

I have been all over town trying to get a car! Everywhere I go it's the same thing, once they pull my credit the headache begins. I have been treated horrible until NOW! The special finance manager actually took the time to sit down and talk to me like a real human being. After providing them with the necessary documents they got me into a brand new 2006 CTS!!!

Disappointing at best

by Christa P.

I will say that the salesperson on the floor was very nice, and I know he was doing what he could to find a good deal. Unfortunately, they have to play the game of running back and forth to their manager, with the manager telling him ways in which to screw us. I clearly stated that I was looking for a 2009 Accord, 36-month lease, zero down, knew the color I wanted, etc. After restating that this is what I would like over and over, the salesperson came back and doubled the monthly payment/wanted to increase my lease to 48 months AND asked me if I could put $3000 down on top of it...I am turning in my leased Honda, which makes it even worse. Then, the manager came out and suggested that maybe I would be interested in an older car or a Civic. Huh? Then he asked if I would consider buying my leased vehicle. Again, what? Why would I be in there clearly saying that I want a new car if I planned on purchasing my vehicle. I think I'm going with another company altogether.

Don't waste your time there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Steven F.

I went to Vandergriff Honda to look at Accords. I ended up agreeing on getting a sedan when I was looking at a coupe. When the sales person walked out and said it was a 48 month lease when I was going for a 36 month lease. I told them that I wanted my truck keys back now. This was after wasting five hours at the dealer. The sales person called me back the next day and asked if I was sure I did not want to do the deal and told him no. The day after the sales manager called me up and said he would do a coupe for the same price. I told him that I would do it if they get the car that I want then I would do the deal. This was at 3:00. I went up to the dealer then they wanted me to get a car that was blue and not the dark gray at first. I told them no. Then they wanted to get me to pay $500 more down and $28 more a month because the car that they had in stock had dealer added junk on it. I told them that is not what I agreed on and then they said they were trying to locate a car like I want. They said they found the car and was waiting to get the vin number on it and were still trying to push the car with the added junk on it for $10 more a month. After waiting for another hour and 45 mins I finally told them they had their chance and told them to get my keys. The sad thing is I would of probably went back to them after my lease was up on my truck in a year. After they showed that their customer's time does not mean anything to them, they are now the last dealer I will go to. I am going to wait out my lease on my truck and get a C300 for the same price they were wanting for an Accord. Just look at the dealer added junk on ALL of their cars and you will see why not to go there. Most of that stuff has a 300-400% markup on it.

Unhappy customer in Arlington

by sabrena w.

I recently bought a used vehicle from this company. The sales guy I worked with was good, but it could have been better. When I did my paperwork with the finance guy, all of it has incorrect information. What's worse is that he offers you all of these extra products and when you say that you are not interested, then he says that he will throw them in for free. NOT!!!! If you look at your paperwork carefully, you were charged for these items. I feel like the Smart Note that they offer, is a crook of bull. You can pay your own car note to the financial institution...you don't need a third party to do that for you. Then, if I was reading the paperwork correctly, they charge you a full car note! And don't get me started on the vehicle. I have had the vehicle only 1 week and it started having problems. I spoke with the sales guy and he assured me that when I brought the vehicle back in on Monday, he would have the vehicle looked at and they would provide a loaner vehicle. Boy, was I mistaken. I went there with the anticipation of getting the problem taken care of and was told that the vehicle is under warranty and should be taken care of, but I need to take it to the Dodge Dealership If I wanted to have problems with a vehicle, I would have kept the car I was previously driving. I didn't want a car note only to have problems with the vehicle I bought! And to add even more insult to injury, the Dodge dealership advised me that if it's not a manufacture issue, then I will have to have it taken care of. I am very disappointed in the way the manager of used cars sales treated me and I would never recommend anyone to purchase cars from them. One of my friends told me that she forgot to inform me to stay away from this dealership! Wish she would have warned me sooner!

General Manager Blackmails Customer To remove Our Complaint

by J.& M. H.

We have bought 4 cars from Vandergriff in 4 years. We put $4,000 CASH down on the first car and had equity it that car when we traded it in for a 2003 Honda Pilot a few years ago. Then last August we bought our 2007 Honda Pilot for $39,000. We told them then we really were going to want one of the newer 2008s. Our Vandergriff salesman said wait 6 months and come back in and trade it in. So we waited that 6 mos and went and talked to Ariel Y. and was told to wait 5 more months and we have and now its wait another year.
We have several major complaints against Vandergriff Honda. One is the way CHARLIE E. THE GENERAL MANAGER has handled our complaint from the start. The general manager told my wife he could help us out for he has a personal friend at American Honda he could call to help us get another car. Then Charlie E tells my wife but he will not help us unless we remove all complaints on the internet against Vandergriff Honda. He said if we did not remove them then he will not help us for he would not feel comfortable doing it.
So several days later I did remove the complaints on complaints.com only to have Charlie not call us and Ariel to have his lady who answers the phones to tell us he was gone home around 5:00pm. I them talked to a manager and was told no Ariel has not gone home but is there. Ariel never calls us back when we do call. Earlier in the day my wife did get to talk to Ariel and he too told my wife that they will not be helping us unless we remove the complaints. She told him I would be removing them and he said they had just checked and they were still there.
The next complaint is our car sold for $39,000 one year ago and gas has nothing to do with it being only worth $18,900 today one year later! If gas was the reason then why would they still be selling 2008 and 2009 models just like ours we have for the same high dollar price. If gas drove the price down on these cars then these cars would be being sold for less today then one year ago. But no the price is the same. No they took us on this car and they know it. All we asked was let us trade it in on a 2008 Accord or CRV WHICH is a lesser dollar car then we have and that would give us a lower car payment. Also to do this with no money down. For we are good paying buyers and have proved that of paying our car payments now for 4 years 2 weeks in advance. We have never been late not even once.
Vandergriff has a track record if you read all the complaints on complaint.com, openlist.com/arlington-tx_vandergriff-honda/148411306/ - merchantcircle.com/business/Vandergriff.Honda.817-461-2323 and many more sites where Vandergriff does not take care of their customers complaint. We both run business our selfs and have for over 25 years. I can not belief a business would ever try to BLACKMAIL a customer to remove their complaints or else. We have proven ours selfs to have been good customers to buy 2 HIGH dollar used cars from Anna and then to Buy a Brand New 2007 last year and then THIS year to bring our daughter in and buy a Brand New 2008 Civic. Thats 4 new cars and he could careless that that shows we would have been buying all our cars for many years to come from them as well as to bring them business. Evans could careless period! Even his letter to you folks at the BBS shows he does not care. He is not addressing the facts of the complaint, the blackmailing he tried to do. He just tries to blame this on the economy.
Please try to get this complaint to Mr. Vandergriff himself so he as the real owner can decide should they treat a repeat buy like dirt as Evans has or try and help get in a way that makes both Vandergriff and the customer happy.
So no we are not happy with Charlie Evans response at all and feel this is not the end of our complaint or complaints till we are treated as a customer and an apology has been gave for the way he has treated us and we can come to an agreement that makes us both happy.

Awesome Customer Service at Vandergriff Honda

by Amber M.

I recently purchased a vehicle from Vandergriff Honda and it was the best experience ever! Al Lewis and Myles went out of their way to get me into a brand new 2009 Honda Accord! The payments were in my budget, and I even got the one with leather. I had a few dings on my credit but they still got me a great interest rate. My old car was a piece of junk and was breaking down all of the time. Thanks Vandergriff Honda!!!!

do not buy from vandergriff honda

by michael s.

While on leave from Iraq I bought a new 2005 civic from Vandergrift Honda. the sale went just fine (it should considering I put $10000 down) unfortunately the car I wanted wasn't in stock but the sales manager said the car would be trailered to the dealership then driven to my house. two days later I got a call saying the car was ready for me to pick up. apparently they forgot they were going to deliver it. later that day they delivered my "new" car WITH 300 MILES ON IT, no tint, no clear bra kit, no EPP package, and with pin striping which I did not want. I was told I would be compensated for the mileage, I never was. I paid $500 for the EPP package yet I still have no proof that I have the coverage. I love my car. I would recommend buying a Honda but it is my goal to keep as many people as possible from making the same mistake as me by buying from Vandergrift Honda.

I feel that their service department is really good. I recently had a radiator flush and I asked them to install new clips and clean my engine for the same price as the flush. They had no problem and did it for me. I had all that done for only $40. and now my engine looks brand new!!

When we first got my wife's Honda Element, we took it to this dealer because it was close to the house. We only needed an oil change and a few noises fixed. When we picked our car up later that afternoon, we were shocked to see that there were a couple of scratched on the side of the vehicle. We spoke with the service manager and he said "you cant expect it to stay perfect" I was amazed that this came from his mouth. After some fighting, they fixed the scratches but whe have never gone back since.

PROS:
CONS: Horrible service department

Terrible

by Pavan P. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,615

Oen of the worst dealers I have ever been to. I looked at a car and wanted pretty much the same car except without the spoiler. The sales agent showed me a car without the spoiler and tells me it is the same thing inside as the one we just looked at. I pay for the car and during the delivery, it is a completely different car. It did not have leather or an automatic transmission. The sales agent lied to me and the manager did not care. Avoid this place.

Best HONDA Dealer IN TOWN

by Marie H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,086

We just bought a new Honda Accord from this dealer and the sales lady Anna Lane was EXCELLENT!! We went to 3 different dealers in the area and none of them was as helpful and willing to get us the car we wanted as this dealer did. We are very satisfied with service. We even bought an extented warranty to 100000 miles at a good price. Highly recommend using this dealer for your next new car.

PROS: Excellent Service, Professional, Good Location, Financing, HELPFUL
CONS: None
