I am sure that there are other students that can attest to the attitude and discipline of the upper learning center teacher, (Now the principle). He was long suffering with a select few and then there were those that he absolutely had no patience with. It is true that some students were not allowed to take their lunch if they were behind in their goals for that day and there was even one particular student that appeared to be struggling with her work that was not allowed to take her lunch and sometimes was not allowed to take bathroom breaks until she completed her goals. We felt sorry for her. As an adult now and a parent, I can say there are better ways of dealing with these issues.

I attended this school for two years back in the 1980's. I like the curriculum (A.C.E.), it's the same one that I used to home school my children. As far as the learning centers, that is part of the A.C.E.'s way of setting up a one room environment, nothing wrong with that either. The down fall to this one particular school is the principal. At the time that I attended the school he was the upper learning center advisor. He had his good days and he had his bad days. I never saw him strike a child, though there were days he was angry and didn't try to hide it. Upon instruction from the pastor and his wife, the children who were behind in their goals would not be able to eat lunch that day. There were days in a row that a child did not eat lunch. Yes, they may have not been motivated to complete the work required, but that was not the answer. I also had knowledge of a certain young man who would receive discipline in the pastor's office. I don't know what the circumstances were that lead to that action being taken towards a student. The church and school is very strict, leads to rebellion in the school and in the post high school years. I elected not to send my kid's to this school and choose to home school instead which was much more flexible with young children.

I went to this school my entire childhood and the early years(preschool to kindergarten) were good, organized by the Fultzes and Obers, who are great people and with great heart. I then went into the middle school there which was fun for the most part but very boring, being a male they made you sit hours on end, and being an energetic little boy I got in quite a bit of trouble because i could not focus in my little cubicle that they gave me. Then I went to 6-12 with the upper-learning center they called it. I then was forced by the principle to endure long talks whenever i got behind in work, these were very intimidating and the things he said were hurtful, and at times he even got physical in them. I.E. kicking you in the butt or slapping you in the face with your homework books. These 2-4 hour meetings (with no staff or parents present, and in secret, behind closed doors) seemed to have no point but to make you cry and really consider that you were evil and should not exist, praying that God might forgive you for making mistakes on the work you corrected. Now an adult with a family, I would never send my children here as long as Lee Wiegand runs it, and I would never recommend it for any child or teen, no matter how bad they do at public school. At least I got a Diploma out of it, but I will never get those years back. Those years were filled with chronic depression and anxiety to which I had to take Ativan in my later teens to be able to function around others, scared that I might do something stupid, and I could not make it in college. Then I went to alcohol, and still have trouble with it. Sorry for the rambling but the point is obviously made, but I had to write this, for my conscience would not let me hide what I know about it. Thank you for your time.

As with everything, you get out what you put into it. The school was excellent for my children. They began at age 4 and continued through 12th grade. All have gone on to college and have had great success. My husband and I used the school as a tool to train our children. We did not expect or want the school staff to raise our children. In my years of experience there, what I witnessed was that the parents and/or children that experienced problems were basically parents and/or children that did not want to make the effort to do what was required for success. This school is not for everyone. It is excellent for independent learning.

To respond to Hope K. I guess you were not much of an insider. The students from FBCS are all good well behaved children. All of our graduates from the many years I have been associated with the school have excelled no matter if they go on to college, ministry or the armed services. Maybe what you are mistaken due to the fact that the students master the basics before moving on to more tougher subjects. This way they are guaranteed success! Try doing all your homework before you pass judgement!

The school is very tiny starting preschool all the way up to 12th grade. The staff seems not to be very organized, and the kids going there seem to be the same. The actual education past kindergarden the student sets for themselves meaning lots of them are way behind and don't understand very simple subjects. This is not an ideal school for a students education.
