I worked there too - Paul is right - a high schooler did become a tutor. And she wasn't that great of a tutor - tons of drama. She had dated one of the tutors, and then broke up - so they would say not so nice things to each other. As for the point of Paul working there 10 years ago -The Better Business Bureau reported a complaint that was made only a couple of months ago http://www.bbb.org/los-angeles/business-reviews/tutoring/tutorwhiz-tm-chino-hills-in-corona-ca-13180377
I know that I received no training on how to tutor. After I quit the company, there was so much more that I learned that would have helped for me to know.
I did not have a college education when I worked there. My grades were good while I attended a community college. Most of the tutors, if not all were good students.
Some of the students worked out of workbooks and in groups. There is no one-on-one tutoring unless you want to pay tons of money.
I would recommend that parents really check out a company. fyi - you could probably pay a tad less, if you call a community college math/English lab and ask for a tutor. I know that some of the colleges do this - and it's probably tons cheaper than private companies.

Honestly, the people writing these reviews are super outdated. The guy below me worked for Tutorwhiz in 2000...over 10 years ago! I myself have worked for tutorwhiz. Im applying to medical school and I teach ALL upper division sciences as well as Calc. Some of my friends work for tutorwhiz and they have already graduated as Pre Meds from college. One tutor had even finished med school and was working here before residency. Also, the thing about hiring high schoolers isnt true. I applied here for a job my senior year (I had a 4.3 GPA by the way) plus AP Physics, AP Calc, and AP Bio...and they STILL didnt hire me because I was in high school.

All tutors are required to take tests on subjects before they are hired and if they dont know a subject well enough, they get stuck with the "little kids".

I honestly think TutorWhiz is great. There have been kids getting D's that went up to A's on their tests. Ive even seen ADD/ADHD and down syndrom kids improve their learning.

I hope this clarifies things because whats being written isnt true. If you are a parent and have a kid that is struggling in school, you need to come here and try it out.

I use to work for TutorWhiz and so I can tell you from personal experience, this is NOT the tutoring company you want to hire to teach your children. The tutors are vastly under-qualified. On occasion they get lucky and hire someone who knows their stuff, but it doesn't happen very often. They're primary motive is to make money, and if their image makes you want to enroll your kid, then they've succeeded. I worked for them from 2000-2001, and I was "let go" because of a difference in philosophy on how we approach tutoring. I believed that when a tutor, like myself, knows a particular subject very well, I should tutor that subject. They wanted stratification, which ended up giving me students who needed to learn stuff that I frankly didn't know. Most of my students were alarmed, and the parents concerned when they "let me go" and I was told that almost all of them dropped TutorWhiz at the end of that same month because the person they replaced me with didn't know anything. Honestly, at the time I had 6 years of college under my belt and they replaced me with a high school senior. They only care about your money. Trust me! Go somewhere else.

I used to work for Tutorwhiz. If I was a parent I would not waste my money. I worked with about 20 tutors during my time there and only about 3 were any good. Most are underqualified, and because the pay stinks they probably still have mostly bad tutors. The managers lie to get your business. When I worked there they would promise all sorts of things to parents. One time they signed up a new student to get tutoring in AP Physics. I asked the manager who we had that was qualified to tutor her and she told me I was going to do it. I have never taken a physics course in my life. That is how it always was at Tutorwhiz.

I would be willing to bet that the good reviews on here are fake. Especially because they rarely have tutors that can handle higher math. When I worked there I was the only one. The one review that says their daughter increased her SAT score by 400 seems way too good to be true.

Anyways, if your children need help, try to use all the available resources their schools have. The schools are not perfect (I know because I am now a teacher), but it will be more beneficial than going to Tutorwhiz.

By the way, on their site they have two testimonials from Alyssa and Chelsea. They were my students in 2003. They wrote those testimonials about me, not Tutorwhiz. My manager altered it and explained to me that if she didn't, it would seem like the rest of the tutors weren't any good. But like I said, most of the tutors there were bad.

Our grandchild is retaking Geometry this Summer. After trying several other companies, we finally found Tutorwhiz who truly is an expert at multi-subject tutoring, and can teach upper division students. She is now passing all her tests. They even provided valuable input for college!

My daughter's score went up by 400 points after taking just one of their courses! The price was very reasonable, and the staff and manager made great effort to ensure she understood the concepts. She just got accepted in to a PreMed major at UCR!

I am very pleased with the results!
My son was has struggled with recent concepts in his Calculus class. After just a few sessions, he started to do better on his tests. He is doing well, and is now taking their SAT Prep program. We are truly pleased with this company - they teach everything, they are professional and friendly. I would highly recommend them!

If you really want your kids to actually learn something, you should go somewhere else. Instructors are inexperienced and incompetent. Prices are not reasonable at all.

We were not satisfied with this particular Tutor Whiz. My son joined the Spanish class and did not learn a thing. I ended up pulling him out. I believe that the young instructors were too busy chatting with each other than paying attention to their student. I also believe this was just this one particular Spanish teacher who may not be working their any longer.
