The Japanese Friendship Garden is well worth a visit. My family likes to go here to relax after visiting a couple other museums at Balboa Park. Even though it is small, it is great to take your time going through it, and we always seem to see something new. My daughter especially loves the koi pond, and my husband likes looking at the weapons displayed in the meditation room. It is very peaceful. I think the bamboo fountains are really neat too.

I have to admit that my expectations were not met when I entered the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. I was expected a fairly large area full of plants, flowers, fish, and Japanese architecture. While the Garden does have some nice plants and flowers, along with a koi pond, the grounds are very small. You will get through the Garden very quickly, leaving you wanting more for your money. If you visit you will most likely enjoy if you keep your expectations low.

Located between the Hospitality House and Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, the Japanese Friendship Garden is a beautiful and relaxing place to walk and escape the hustle and bustle for a while. My favorite spots were the koi pond and the meditation room, which is so well insulated, you can't hear any of the airplanes flying overhead. They also have a few art exhibits centered around a Japanese theme that are well worth the $3 admission.
