We discovered Cereality on a trip to Chicago. It was recommended by our hotel and a guide book. It's definitely a different twist on breakfast. It's a "cereal bar." You create your own cereal. Mix and match their cereal offering. Add mix-ins like fruit, candy, granola, etc. It's served in Chinese food style containers.

You can eat it with milk, but it makes a great snack on its own. The portions are big, so you might not want to add milk to the whole thing. Our kids are still talking about it and wishing there was one in our area.

This is definitely a quirky place with a quirky concept. You can mix and match different kinds, and add toppings like malted milk balls, fruits and nuts. Hot and cold varieties, and smoothies (made with oatmeal blended in, of course). If you love cereal and hanging out watching cartoons on comfy chairs, this is the place for you. However, that's my whole problem with the concept--I can do that at home! And, I can buy an entire box of the exact same cereal for what they charge for one serving (two small scoops). I am glad this type of unique place exists, but I guess I just don't get why I'd go out to a restaurant and pay a premium for something so simple, that requires virtually no preparation, and that I can get at any grocery store. I personally go out to eat foods I can't get elsewhere, that offer something unique and special, or that I can't duplicate. If they offered more "sides" for breakfast, like bakery goods or gourmet coffee/teas, even ice cream concontions with cereal mixed in....maybe I can see a wider appeal here. But to me it's like going out for an $8 peanut butter and jelly sandwich on Wonder bread, or a visiting a buffet full of canned soups. Heck....maybe those are the next big trends!

PROS: Unique concept
CONS: Cereal all day? Gotta love the stuff

I was walking up Wacker drive with a heavy backpack and a camera in what felt like 120 degree weather when I saw this place quirkily called Cereality. I'd actually seen it the day before, but I wasn't really in the mood to explore new places because I had a list. And I had to stick to the list. I wish I'd gone in earlier. I walked in and was promptly greeted by cool air, cushy couches, several televisions playing Saturday morning cartoons (it was Tuesday around noon) and a guy, somewhere around my age (28) saying something like, "Hi! Welocome to Cereality..." I guess the idea is like this: You can be a 7 year old again and sit there on couches with your favorite cereal concoction watching any cartoon you'd like any time you'd like. It's smack dab in the middle of Chicago on Wacker drive right before a bridge. It was chock full of business people, sitting there eating fruit loops with strawberries and coco puffs with soy milk and an orange juice. You can pick any toppings you'd like to go on your cereal. You can mix any several serials you enjoy. Like Chex and Life in one bowl. You can also get chocolate syrup on your oatmeal or get apple cinnamon oatmeal with real apples in it. It's GGGGGREAT!

PROS: fun, new, cool
CONS:
