All I remember from my childhood of this place was a lot of green algae growing in tanks, everywhere!

I went recently and really enjoyed the Living Philippine Coral Reef exhibit.
"The Academy chose to feature a Philippine coral reef because the reef systems in the Philippines are among the most diverse in the world."

Very serene and eerie. Cool!

I'd been here a few times when the museum was located in Golden Gate Park, and I really miss the building there! Now it is located on Howard Street, and is much smaller than the old place. Still, the exhibits are great and I love the penguins and the aquariums. It's definitely a good deal to go on the first Wednesday of the month, when admission is free. Otherwise the price is $8.50 per ticket.

The California Academy of Sciences is a fantastic museum for the young and old. Features of the museum include a chocolate factory, a coral reef tank, and a penguin exhibit. Fun for the whole family!

PROS:
CONS: Prices are a little high

If you ask me I think that the new location for California Academy of Sciences is horrible. I liked its old location in Golden Gate Park better where they have free parking available and you are surrounded in the beautiful luscious environment of Golden Gate Park. This one in downtown San Francisco is in a smaller building and therefore have less exhibits to offer and there are no free parking to be had.

Ever since they placed this facility downtown after leaving Golden Gate Park, I wonder how many people really go to it. Making up about two floors, the general exhibit displays aquatic life and every few months cycle their special exhibit from chocolate to... ANTS. Although the museum itself isn't exactly small, you could probably finish this thoroughly in a couple of hours, or a lunch break if you've been there before. The admission is somewhat pricey (around $7) for what you get and I wouldn't recommend going more than once if you've been there before, unless there is a special exhibit being shown there. This can be entertaining, but there is better exhibits to be had in the city.

The California Academy of Sciences offers a great blend of nature, and known for there great display of the Steinhart Aquarium. It's a great place to take the kids, and offers a wide range of educational, and hands on experience. One of the better attractions, and expands your enjoyment of science beyond the textbook.

Academy of Sciences Steinhardt Aquarium holding facility on Howard Street is really a cool place. Although the exhibits are not the most advanced, it is always fun to go and see the gigantic turtles. Also, they had a really good exhibit with ants that had been ruined by non-native beetle species; it was really cool to see. I would highly recommend paying a visit.

The temporary location of the California Academy of Sciences is in a prime location just south of Market, right by the Zeum. This makes it nice to plan a trip to both or even the Metreon with the kids. The recent Chocolate exhibit is great. Kids want to just each the chocolate, though, so make sure you go on a Friday or Sat. when free chocolate is given out. Check out the web site for more info regarding their exhibit schedule.
