I stayed here once, thinking I will be very close to times square etc. But was totally disappointed with the stay. Although the location of the hotel is great, the place has very small rooms for the money. The sheets were not clean. Overall I would not recommend it. You are better off stayed a bit further from the heart of the city but being more comfortable.

I had one stayed at the Edison a few years before, but wanted to stay some place special on my next trip to NY and I booked a room at the Paramount Hotel. The rose wall out front is pretty and the lobby looks pretty stylish but the room are horrificly small and cheap looking. It was like a closet. The bathroom was tiny with a really cool metal sink in it, but it really didn't fit the style of the bathroom at all and didn't make up for the fact you feel screwed over when you get into that room. I was with my brother when we checked in and had requested a room for two. A room for two means you get one bed. The staff seemed a bit pretentious in my opinion. Our room had one window that overlooked an air shaft. Oh, and to top it off, I was awakened at around 4 am by some man moaning and crying and hearing what sounded like whipping sounds with another voice yelling at the man who was moaning. I was frightened until my brother said it sounded like some kind of kinky sex act. Next time, I'll book at the Edison.

We checked in, having paid $400/night, to a rediculously small room with mattresses on boxsprings on the floor and a bathroom so small that my 5 year old would have trouble turning around in. We upgraded to a suite for the low price of $550/night. The rooms are all dingy, mental institution white with terrible lighting and dated furniture. The white leather furniture in the "sitting room" was dirty as was the gray and black carpet. It was actually stained. There was no clock radio, one small television in a makeshift armoire. Service was terrible. No room service at all, no hotel restaurant and no one could get us ice. There are no vending machines at the end of the hallway so no cokes, snacks or ice. The mini bar had an old half gallon of milk in it from a previous unfortunate resident. Actually it was not a mini bar because they had done away with that beverage service - "management changes". We had to go to the hotel lobby bar and request a bucket of ice from the bartender. No - housekeeping will not do it for you. I would expect this from a $79 per night motel in Albany, Georgia but a $500 per night room in New York? Location was mediocre - great if you want to be close to Time Square. The only redeeming quality was the concierge service which is, SURPRISE!, contracted out and not under the hotel management. There were no notices on their website about not having any food or beverage services. Oh, and the bathrooms were unclean. I like the whole idea of a boutique hotel but the price needs to reflect the amenities, service and convenience. Pay no more than $125/night for this place.

My husband picked this for a special day out. Interesting entry way, with the roses in the wall. The room we had was very small and the window didn't open. Elevators light up in different colors. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom.

When entering the hotel the first thing you notice is how dark the lobby is. Which sucks if you want to relax and read before or while you're checked in. Some of the rooms are very small and hard to walk around in. Still the prices are fairly decent and it's in a good location. It's near all the great New York shops and restaurants.

As I usually stay in traditional chain hotels, I decided to try out the eclectic Paramount boutique hotel. I paid around $225 a night to stay here (before tax and parking!), and it was not worth the money. Yes, the lobby was exceptionally stylish. But after a few days, most people easily get sick of the decor. The fact that the common areas are so dark doesn't help either. (What a way to save on the electric bill!) And, worst of all, the rooms were tiny and poorly done. I could barely fit my suitcase on the carpet! The furnishings were ugly and dated, and I could not believe my eyes. The bathroom was no better. Thankfully, the staff were pleasant and I wasn't here for long. IF you like the eclectic, modern type of hotel, stay here. That's the only special thing about them since even though the location is great, there are so many other choices around there.
Considering the high price of this hotel, I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay here.

I simply love this place which is great lounge in Midtown Manhattan to meet up with your friends for a chat. The personnel is extremely polite and friendly!!! Its definitely a place with a great atmosphere too!!!

Just finished a three night stay. The hotel lobby is beautiful and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the rooms are small and lackluster.
I had a "superior" room with a king-size bed. What was interesting (in a bad way) is that even though there was room for one, the room did not contain a desk. There was a bed, a small chair, a wall-mounted TV, and a "breakfast in bed/hospital meal" style TV tray which I awkwardly tried to use as a desk.
Apart from the TV on the wall, there was no art or anything interesting on the drab gray walls and the room felt more like a prison cell than a hotel room.
The bed was comfy, however.

The first time I showed up at this hotel with a reservation through expedia I was told that there were no rooms because they were remodeling, something was wrong and there were no more rooms available. They said I could stay at another hotel, at a higher price. I had a package delivered to the hotel for a first thing in the morning meeting and they told me they had no access to the package, so they wanted to move me to a different hotel, at a higher price without the package I needed immediately. This is NOT customer service. I ended up at a higher priced hotel and NOT prepared for my morning meeting.
I decided to try again at this hotel, optimism.... Again, through expedia I scheduled a week long business trip. In the middle of the stay I needed to extend by a day. I called the reservation desk today, was told I could extend the day but not guaranteed the same room. I asked if I gave my credit card to the front desk (because through expedia you pre-pay so they don't have those details) when I got back at the end of the day if I could be, answer -- yes. Well I got back this evening and the answer is no, we are booked and was told that reservations was out-sourced and took ZERO accountability. This hotel does NOT deserve business. Customer service has ZERO parlance. With the tons of hotels in NYC don't stay here!

Met friends here and was BLOWN AWAY!! Among the craziness of the theater district, this is the perfect place to meet for a pre/post show or after work drink. Great atmosphere with a fun, upbeat feel and a staff to match!

If anyone gets annoyed with the craziness of Times Square, then they'll love to dip into this hidden gem. It's a gorgeous place to just relax and get away from it all. Great for happy hour or just a relaxing place to meet with friends. The service from the wait staff was impeccable, the ambiance was sultry yet still "first-date" friendly.... and even their Beer list knocked my socks... I mean, stilettos off!!. Make sure to check out the library upstairs too!! It's totally worth the trip.

Hard to find without signs, but when you walk in, you realize why you walked in. With great drinks, an awesome lounge setting, some great background music, and interesting people...this might be my new favorite place to be.
We stayed in this hotel in marc 2008, the room they gave us was tiny, was impossible to open the suitcases inside the room, that was bare patch, and the bathroom are so, so old, almost twenty years without improvements, they don't have windows...Also we've been in public restrooms cleaner than our room...
At the recepcion told us they will be chargin 50$ per day for any damage we could make.... and fridge of the room was closed and out of order..
The gereral impresion of the hotel is so dark, and they have music at hihg volume, maybe they suppose that make them more cool...
We were stolen inside the room(1300$), and they tried to avoid to call the police, I had to call them from my room (911), when the police came, the manager tried to avoid take responsibility for security of the room, of caouse, they charge us every call (1,25$ each), even to the police...
Leaving the hotel they charge us 2$ per suitcase, just to take care of them for a few hours...
I truly recommend you not to go to this hotel, you are warned....

We live in Miami, FL. We have been in NY 3 times now and always stayed at the Paramount. We have received an outstanding service, the staff is really nice and helpful, and to be honest our room, which was a superior queen, was not small, it was a normal size, remember that for the most part hotel rooms in New York are not huge, We are very pleased and would recommend this hotel to anyone!!! We love it!!!

I am a business traveler in my early 40's I am at Gold and Silver levels for a couple of hotel chains. I could not get into those hotels for a convention I am attending in NY. I bid on P*****line @ $250 and got The Paramount. I MADE A BIG MISTAKE! The room is the size of a walk-in closet. The closet is so shallow that the hangers have to sit at an angle. The TV is an 8" screen! The room is 7' across with the bed sitting (on the floor) against one wall which leaves about 2 feet of foor to walk. If you turned the bed sideways in the room it just about touches both walls! The bathroom is like a narrow hallway, not a square but a rectangle shape. Trying to paint a picture here - If you walk into the bottom of the rectangle you pass the sink, then the toilet, then the shower. It is 2 1/2 feet wide! If you are bringing your spouse and are used to normal hotel chains your wife/ husband will not be happy. DON"T DO IT!! Why am I writing this review? I am road warrior that uses CitySearch for good advice on restaurants, hotels, etc and this is my opportunity to save you from what I went through. PLEASE DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID! I want you to enjoy your trip to NY. This hotel was rated 3 stars by P****line, in my opinion it is 1 star.

Living in New York for 10 years, I recently relocated... but come to New York weekly on business. When I arrived, I found there was NO evening dining and NO RELIABLE INTERNET. The night manager was incredibly RUDE, and underlined that I had to pay for the full night even though I had only check in, went out to dinner, only to return 3 hours later to find there was NO INTERNET. They wouldn't even work with me for a reasonable cancellation for only 3 hours. The supervisor didn't even return my request for a call the next day.
This hotel is MISREPRESENTED on the internet, and DOES NOT OFFER PUBLISHED AMENITIES --- not even disclosed upon check in. BE WARNED: if you sign the check in card, you have to pay the cancellation, REGARDLESS (you might want to check if your room even has a bed before signing).
The rooms are TINY. NO 'HOSPITALITY', NO INTERNET, NO DINNER, just a yellow pages (HELLO, YELLOW PAGES? THANKS).
GROSS SERVICE, AS GROSS AS ITS LOCATION. The bellman are a saving grace, who happily got me in a cab to go to the MARITIME (much better service, better location and staff, and better prices).
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Makes me feel sad that this is how visitors see my beloved city.
The rooms are small but work for two people max. The "hip" stainless steel bathroom sink was falling apart but functional. The AC was a joke. After resetting it setting in several times the room remained at a roasting 74 degrees. Now on to the best part, the bed, and I use the term loosely. After three night I still can't tell if I was sleeping on concrete or a torture table. My back will never be the same. All in all, the place it trying to be hip but just missed the mark. Needs some major investment in the rooms. One good point though, the W Hotel is just around the corner.

My boyfriend and I were really excited about this hotel. We made it to NYC early and checked in but our room was unavailable. The staff offered an upgrade to a smoking room but we declined, of course, and opted to wait. Long after check in time, we received our keys and headed to the elevator. Another couple was in the elevator and stated "don't take the elevator to the right, we got stuck in it." The thought... a dark elevator... stuck... really freaked me out but that was just the beginning. Not only was it dark it was HOT! They did not have the air on in these elevators much less the hallway. We finally arrived in the hallway to a strong stench of cigarette smoke... This is not just a quick sniff of smoke... this is a long overdue cigarette stench-must have been smoking floor-disgusting. We arrive in our room to find the smallest hotel room I have ever been in (and I have stayed in other hotels in NYC-I know they are generally small but this was ridiculous). In any event, we called downstairs to notify the staff of the cigarette stench and they said "someone is cheating" - that is what you tell customers who pay a lot of $ for a non-smoking room - I am sorry that does not cut it. The elevator and hallway are dark, the carpet was filthy, the bed is literally on the floor and the bathroom was dirty. I lasted about 2 minutes and asked to check out. We ended up at The Broadway Inn Bed and Breakfast on the same block. Rooms were clean, good rates and the staff was exceptionally nice. To be honest, I don't think we were the first couple to make a b-line to this place after leaving the Paramount Hotel.

The hotel has just changed hands and they closed there restaurants and canceled there room service as well as removed the mini bars. That's right can you believe that they expect to continue charging insane rates to stay in a closet size room and you can't even get a can of soda or even ice sent up to the rooms. Stay away at all costs you've been warned!

I'm a New Yorker whose elderly parents are visiting and staying at the Paramount. The hotel is nice enough, location is OK, room small. But if you stay there, look out: while finishing off a drink brought in off the street, we were accosted in the lobby by a frosty security guy who ordered us out in a not-at-all-pleasant manner. Apparently, there are tiny signs off to the side, with impossible-to-read grey-on-grey lettering telling guests not to eat or drink. Why grey-on-grey? Because they have to look trendy, although this also makes them completely unreadable from a distance. He was enforcing the rules, but there's pleasant enforcement and rude enforcement - and this was rude. I won't recommend the Paramount to out-of-town guests in the future.
It's a great place to take out-of-town guests to experience a typical NYC bar scene. The bar has some great seating areas: along the windows facing 46th, or along the sides overlooking the hotel lobby. (BTW, the hotel lobby has some of the funkiest seating in the city.) There are some friendly waiters, but like any other place of this caliber, don't be surprised if you get one who thinks he is some elite superstar. Food and drinks are correspondingly expensive for this type of place, so be prepared. I'd stay away from the starters (tiny portions) and go for the entrees (only a couple dollars more). Average prices for starters were between $14-$16 (e.g. a tiny, tiny plate of nachos was $14). The best deal was the burger, though pricey ($16), it was a decent size and came with fries. If you want quieter seating, grab the side tables overlooking the lobby. Overall, there is nothing "wow" about this place, but for show, it's worth a visit.

I've lived in NYC for quite a while, been to a lot of places and rarely give "bad" reviews (as per my citysearch profile). However, this bar stands is THE MOST obnoxious and shockingly rude place EVER. The atmosphere is seeminigly normal, but I was flabbergasted after being told to "get out" within "20 minutes", despite having just ordered my drink, because the "bar closes and so finish your drink or we're going to throw your drink out". The bartender then proceeded to lock up behind us and continue to drink with his friends!! My friends were staying in the hotel, and we walked out of the bar confused and thoroughly speechless. We complained to the hotel management, and were told that the bar is completely separate from the hotel-- so the hotel provided us with drink vouchers as an apology. STAY AWAY from this bar... at least, that's my advice after the one time I've been there, and, trust me, I will NEVER go back.

I stayed at the Paramount from Friday thru Sunday. The service was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The room was not huge, but it was perfect for me and it would be great for a couple. The bed was also extremely comfortable.
The decor and detailing of the room was great. Every one of my friends who visited me at the Paramount fell in love with the look, feel, and details of the hotel and my room.
The Times Square location was beautiful! The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the subway. My view wasn't great, but I came to NYC to hang with my friends not play hermit in my hotel room.
I would highly recommend the Paramount to anyone looking for a chic, minimalist hotel experience.

For a hotel bar, the music is way too loud. I had after-work drinks with colleagues and the bar was playing Clash music very loudly. When we asked for them to turn it down, the waitress said she could because of regulatory reasons. The strawberry mojitos are good but I think overall the place is overpriced and is not in the same league as other upscale hotel bars.

Central location but would only recommend if you need or want to be near Times Square and/or Broadway. Rooms are tiny and bed is very firm. Bathroom is also quite small. Service was friendly and hotel lobby and bar area was on the trendy side. Overall decent, but probably will look for a different place to stay in the future.

I'm glad I stayed here. The hotel lobby and the outside of the hotel is really nice. The room was SOO small but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice and bigger than the one I have at home. The room had a closet, a small tv, and a table with two chairs. My mom had asked for a room with a nice view and the friendly girl who attended us said that none of the rooms really have a good view BUT.... we opened the window and had a pretty nice view. We could see the other lighted up buildings. The location is great too. The one thing I really didnt like was the extremely small room but I had a good experience there. We were hardly in the room anyways. Cute lighted up elevators in blue, green, orange, and red.
I have been staying at the Paramount for several years now. Its my second choice, not the first. Primarily because the hotel refuses to reinvent itself with changing times. Perhaps the only reason i prefer paramount is because of its proximity to the Time Square, garment District and Theatres all of which is within 2 minutes walking range. As for the service, it is pathetic, less said the better. Its time paramount changed its interiors, rooms, especially the bathrooms.
I would not stay here unless you are only getting a hotel to have a place to lay your head for the night. The rooms and bathrooms are like a dormatory. I dont have anything trully negative to say about the hotel, but I would not stay there again. Spend the extra $50-75 and stay somewhere better, your New York experience will be a little more comfortable.

I'm in NYC hotels regularly, and this was by far one of the worst experiences I've had. First of all, any decent hotel should have a bed frame for each room. However, my 10 x 10 room had the bed on the floor, which reminded me of a college dorm. The mattress itself was terrible. The linens were fitting of a hostel. The TV was perched on top of a very old five foot cabinet, which made watching TV like a planetarium show. The bathroom was acceptable, but by no means a model of cleanliness.
The only positive things I can say is that the staff was pleasant, and the bar scene was decent, but you can visit the bar without having to stay there. I will not be staying at this hotel again, and I advise others to look elsewhere.

I was a bit apprehensive staying her since I've read some mix reviews but I was pleasantly surprised because it was such a great hotel. Not only was it an ideal location from Time Square/Broadway Theaters but the subway stations were around the corner. We were greeted with a friendly staff and the room was a good size and clean. The decor of the lobby was cool esp. the candles on the stairway. The gym was well maintained and Paramount Bar had the best cocktails! I also liked the fact that they had a restaurant and a Dean and Deluca. I would definitely stay at the Paramount again.

The hotel Paramount is very nice. The service of the hotel was very good, friendly staff. The room was clean however small which is not a problem because in New York you shouldn't be spending too much time in your room anyway! The only problem I experience with my stay at the paramount was the fact that the walls are very thin. You will be able to hear your neighbors conversations and what not. I was woken up at 6:30 in the morning by my neighbor's conversation...and they weren't screaming either. So it is worth the stay the hotel is very modern but make sure you aren't getting ripped off with their sometimes high prices. Make sure you stay for under $150.

A door facing south on 46th street has no buffer zone at all between indoor & outdoor air. No double door, no plastic thingy...bubkus. A cute bar at the normal stiff prices given the posh surroundings & Manhattan rents, but myself & many other nearby patrons were cringing with fear every time that door opened up this Saturday night to deliver gulps of <30 F air. They could've just directed people around to the other entrance about thirty feet away...I won't be back before spring.

This place has only one main good point, LOCATION. Ok, the room was quiet, except for occaisional a/c noise. The room size was not an issue, once you moved the crappy furniture out of way. The bed sucked, the furniture sucked. Everything outside of lobby was pretty crappy. This place just needs new furniture, beds too, off the floor. If you get a deal, take it, but if not STAY AWAY. Worth about 150 per night, not more.

The public areas of the hotel are classic of the Schragger motif ... but the room we stayed in couldn't have been shadier! I felt like I was at a no-tell motel instead of a top rated spot! After staying at the Hudson the Paramount was a total and utter disappointment. If you're looking for a less pricey place to stay that is WAY more chic and stylish (not to mention upkept) stay at the Hudson. I wish we had again!
stayed at the paramount this past weekend.. enjoyed myself. the rooms are small, but the point of staying in times square is not to be cooped up in your room all day. If u plan on hitting the town and seeing the sites with minmal time in the room, stay here. Good location, staff doesnt get on your nerves, if you need something they get it, if you dont, you know where to find them when theres a problem. You pay for the location and the ambience. Mezzanine bar on second floor great, spent alot of time there, good bartenders, good drinks.. I wouldnt mind staying here again.....

I enjoyed my stay here very much. The Times Square location is great ! Noise was not an issue here. The service was great and even though the rooms are very small it is a terrific hotel. I got a promotional rate which made it wonderful !
Granted, the rooms are very small (but absolutely clean as far as I could see), the A/C is kind of noisy (but with the A/C the room is surprisingly quiet) and the place might be not as hip as it used to be. But if you can get a good deal (which I felt we did with the 2 for 1 special for $ 225) there hardly is a better choice, especially if you want to see a Broadway show. The Paramount is only half a block from Times Square (and, if you happen to arrive by bus: it´s only three blocks or so from the Port Authority Bus Termnal). The service was excellent and, of course, the whole place looks very stylish.
I reviewed the bad ratings for this hotel and cant understand why everyone does not enjoy the hotel. I lived here for 4 months while working on a project. Granted it is very small and has in recent years become dirty and smoke filled. It does have a certain appeal though, especially for the rock n roll addicts and those wanting to catch an alternative vibe. The rooms are VERY small but who needs marriott marble and styrofoam beds? This place is still hip but definately not made for the family or yuppie gendre.

Tiny rooms, noisy air conditioning, overpriced, a con (given the price). Only positive is the good mid-town location (if that's what you need). Stay somewhere less pretentious - this once-trendy place will leave you tired in the morning, but for all the wrong reasons
I just have to agree with everyone and say that this place was a joke! The lobby is there to only you fool you into staying at this hotel. The rooms were so tiny I could stretch my arms to both sides! And this was a suite with 2 queen beds! The air conditioning was noisy, the sheets made me itchy and my view was of a very pretty brick wall. Next time I will sleep in Central Park before I stay here again!

This place sucks!! Need I say more? Ok, I will. I stayed there in October of 2000 with two friends, after seeing the room we demanded an upgrade which we got for more $$. Not much better than the first. The rooms are exceedingly small, the sheets are stained, its not a bed its a futon. It was supposed to be a non smoking room but it reeked like an ashtray. We had to take turns walking around the room and had to stack our luggage. I won't even mention the air-conditioning. They need to spend more money on the rooms instead of the designer clothing the staff wears!!!
rooms are like closets, paint peeling, with an airconditioner and cheap venetian blinds w/no curtains. beds are one step up from a tatami mat w/an egg crate on top... we paid $120 per night thru hotwire and it was a HUGE ripoff - even for new york. if i paid more i would have been pissed. i vow to never stay in an ian shrager hotel again. although i give the guy credit, he can call it
"hip" and "bohemian" when it's really "cheap" and "confused"
