I thought this zoo was OK,not to big for the kids to walk around.I also found it could do with some updating.I felt sorry for the birds there was no shelter for them, and no room for them to fly at all.The Tiger was in a very small pen,and looked very distressed, this upset my kids.I really don't think i want to visit this zoo again.I will go back if changes are made for the animals welfare.

Most of the reviews included on Insider Pages are from 2005. In late 2005, John Ball Zoo decided to become a leader in interactive exhibits. During the summer (May-Sept) you'll find: Touchable & feedable Stingrays and SHARKS, an aviary containing over 300 colorful BUDGIES (parakeets) that will land on you and you can feed, walk-thru WALLABIES (that enjoy a scratch behind the ears), an AQUATIC ANIMAL TOUCH TANK, and lots of volunteers around with animals in their arms. BUT...that's not all....how about our brand new 4-STORY, 300-FT ZIPLINE and COMING THIS SUMMER, a ROPES COURSE (and Jr. Ropes Course) AND...A PRIDE OF THREE TREE CLIMBING LIONS IN THE ALL NEW "LIONS OF LAKE MANYARA" - opening June 2008 !!!

This zoo is not very large and could stand to add to its current exhibits. You can cover the entire zoo (easily) in less than 1 hour. The most impressive part of the zoo was the aquarium.

If you are looking to kill a few hours outside on a nice day, you could head to the zoo. To be honest, this zoo is nothing great. I remember going when I was a child. At first it was nice going back and remembering seeing exhibits and the memories. But then I realized pretty much everything looked the same as it did 15 years ago. The zoo is in need of a change! Most of the animals are outdoors and in the heat, they tend to hide in the shade making it difficult to see many of the animals. Children tend to love the petting zoo and the monkeys. Parking is free. The park surrounding the zoo is great and ideal for having picnics before or after walking through the zoo.

John Ball Zoo offers a look at many different animals any time during the year. The zoo does not have much else to do. The only thing we find really fun is watching the BIG monkeys in their habitat. Other than that, the zoo is a one time destination. They do have some special events throughout the year that may be worth going to though if you like animals.

The zoo is great for a fun, reasonably priced family outing. There are many animals to watch, and different presentations to experience. The petting zoo is a great place for young visitors to get to know some farm animals like cows, goats, pigs and chickens. The zoo is extremely small - and easy to get around.

John Ball Zoo is a nice place to go on an sunny afternoon. Most of the exibits are outside so it is more enjoyable on a nice day. There is a wide range of animals to look at. There is a petting zoo that is really good for younger kids and adults that are kids at heart. It doesn't take that long to walk through the whole zoo so it definatley doesn't take up your whole day.

Although this is not a "world class" zoo, it is very much worth visiting. There is a wide variey of animals and attractions. In the summer there are also plenty of programs for you kids. The zoo is relatively inexpensive, and worth the hours of learning and fun experiences. The concession prices are a bit high, but that seems standard in today's prices. A good option would be to pack a lunch and eat outside of the zoo at the park.

Not the greatest zoo but I guess it is all we've got. Free days are always good but then the place is JAM PACKED. Parking is free which is nice.

The zoo setup is not the best at all. You have to climb a HUGE hill just to get into the main part. The zoo does not make a circle of sorts so you do a lot of back tracking. There aren't always a lot of animals out either but for little kids it's ok. The petting zoo (when open) is a neat place. Over all it is just an ok place.

The John Ball Zoo is great for taking kids to; there are lots of things to do, and it's not so large that you're going to get overwhlemed (or overheated!) spending a day touring and looking at the exhibits. It's a zoo that you can really go through most of in a good portion of a day, with plenty of time for other things.

John Ball Park (located right outside the zoo) has great picnic areas that can be reserved for group events.

John Ball Zoo is a great for kids..lots of animals and fun things to do. The zoo has several exhibits and hands on activities for kids. However, the zoo has become sort of run down in the past few years. It is not as nice and kept up the way that it used to be. I recommend going but its not something I would go to often. They also have a nice picnic and pavillion area.

For small children this is a great place to spend the day,we have went a few times. The food/drinks are a tad bit expensive as are souveiners.I would suggest taking a picnic lunch for afterwards!

They have indoor exhibits and outdoor exhibits, they have a camel that you can ride(there is a fee for that though).

It is well maintained and very clean and the people that work there are very nice.

The zoo is always a nice place to visit, but after going to the same zoo all the time, I wish they could update it a bit more. There are a lot of nice attractions and a good petting farm for little kids. They could use some more exotic animals and more room. There are ice cream and snacks you can buy in the zoo and there is some nice duck ponds out front. A good place to bring kids.

PROS: Location, free parking
CONS: small

John Ball Zoo is a great zoo. It has just enough animals, so you can get thru it in a couple hours. It also has a couple aquariums which are pretty cool. They have recently added some animals one of them being a dragon!! The prices are great for a zoo, and the staff is friendly. You can have a picnic there as well. Highly recommend it.

A nice variety of animals, just the right size to walk through with kids ages 1 to 8 years old. Nice area to have a picnic with a pond to feed the geese and ducks. Plenty of specials so check their website. Food is pretty expensive there so eat just outside of the park

The John Ball Park Zoo is fairly inexpensive. It took my kids there recently and it was only $4 for an adult and my kids were free. There were lots of places to have picnics throughout the zoo and my daughter really enjoyed the Australian exhibit. The zoo was also very clean, which was a nice bonus!

Over the years the zoo has undergone many changes. It has grown, and new animals have been placed there. They seem to be updating it bit by bit, and the new penguin house is a blast, as is the aquarium. I like it almost as much as the Anchorage zoo, as I grew up with it.

The John Ball Zoo is a good place to go if you are looking for a activity to do that won't require too much time. Unless, you plan on attending one of their special theme days. The zoo will be expanding soon and hopefully will house even more animals than it currently does. The newer Chimpanzee exhibit is very nice and allows you to get up close to the animals in a safe environment. There is a Children's Petting Zoo as well. I think when the current zoo combines with the new future zoo Grand Rapids will be a great place to visit to enjoy this wonderful opportunity.

It's the only zoo we got basically...but the place seems to have less than exciting exhibits. Animals look like they're almost dead. Place is kind of small too. Kids love to go there though

My fiancee and I went this past July. There were tons of children around who all appeared to be having a great time. As adults who have been to other zoos, we quickly discovered there was nothing great about this zoo. You can tell the zoo is older and in dire need of a facelift and extra money.

The John Ball Park Zoo always seems to be a little rundown & never has all the "advertised" animals to view out. You probably get a good look at an animal for every two or three exhibits you pass. Personally I would not recommend going to this zoo unless it's free. They always offer free admission before a certain date of the year. For being free, I think it is a wonderful entertaining outing, especially with all the inside exhibits to stay out of the cold. I went on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend this past year and I definitely had a lot of fun. I wouldn't have had as much fun if I would've had to fork over cash though.
