My experience with Hamlin Park has been wonderful. I've been boxing their for almost two years now and with a membership of $25 for three months plus a genuinely nice guy running it who really looks out for the boxers, what's not to like? Aside from that, I always see little league games going on, fencing classes, people playing indoor and outdoor basketball, tennis, swimming during the summer time, kids playing on the playground and lots of people walking their dogs and playing with them in the dog park that Hamlin offers. The area always feels very social and warm. I am actually looking to move to Roscoe Village to be closer to Hamlin Park and the area around it because I enjoy it so much. It's definitely worth checking out.
Hamlin Park is a full city block long and wide and boasts four full-size, lighted baseball diamonds as well as a kiddie park. There's an outdoor Olympic sized pool that is kept clean and in control. Call first for the schedule as they set aside time for little kids as well as adult lap swim. There's outdoor and indoor basketball courts, and boxing (!) and the usual gamut of park district programs for kids and adults.
