The Patterson Ranch house is a large, beautifully preserved 1857 Victorian house. The entire park includes a farm, a large forest and the house itself. There are large, ornate gardens, beautifully preserved farm buildings, the old railway stop and trains to ride (horse-drawn). The farm also features lots of happy-looking farm animals you and your kids can help to feed at certain times of day. There are loads of drop-in activities and seasonal activities on any weekend including a very thorough house tour. The ranch is also home to a flock of migrating Monarch butterflies that roost in the eucalyptus forest each winter. A naturalist is available to show you around the site on winter weekends and will answer all your butterfly questions.

Overall this place is a wonderful day out with lots to do and see. You can rent party areas out for birthdays and BBQs for a reasonable fee. I definitely recommend it.

We've visited this farm many times. They have several special events throughout the year that are well worth the visit. There are some animals, a blacksmilth, and the restored Patterson house that is really fun to tour. You can also just walk the grounds. At Christmas time and Halloween there are some fun things going on for adults and for kids. Worth the trip.

Theres lots to do at Ardenwood. You can pet the farm animals. You can see people dressed in costumes at the market, where you can also by food and goods, and where you can see craftsmen ply their trade. You can see the Civil War re-enactment, complete with horses and a cannon.

Ardenwood is like a large regional park, except it is home to a historic mansion and a farm, which is still working today. Adults can come to relax, buy organic crops grown on site (available near the main gate entrance), and let their kids run around and participate in rural farming activities. A beautiful flower garden surrounds the Patterson Ranch, a splendid Victorian-style mansion.

My family and I have gone to Ardenwood for Firetruck day and the Fourth of July. It's a great step back into history. You can watch farm animals, watch a working blacksmith forge nails or horseshoes or ironwork for your rustic home, and there is usually a demonstration of farm life back inthe day (we have churned our own ice cream and made corn husk dolls with our kids). On firetruck day, they have a bunch of antique firetrucks and local area (different East Bay towns) firefighters and firehose activities. Fourth of July, they have a band play and watermelon seed spitting contest and pie eating contest (No fireworks)! They also have a "train" pulled by horses that the kids love! It's a fun day and usually very reasonable. Pack a lunch and it's a great day.

This family park was particularly good for their re-enactments of the civil war on the Fourth of July, when this old-fashioned farm pulls out all the stops to make you believe that you've stepped back in time to a hundred years ago.
Volunteers dressed in traditional clothing help complete the illusion, re-enacting turn of the century activities such as spinning wool into yarn, hammering out horseshoes at the blacksmiths' shop, and carting visitors around in horse-drawn hayrides. Helping make the hand-cranked ice cream is just one of the events that kids (and adults) will love.

Ardenwood Farm is a working farm that has kept a Victorian farm atmosphere. Kids can learn about the work of a farm, there is a train, and lots of animals out by the barnyard. There is also picnic and party areas, nice for birthdays.

Overview
Part of the East Bay Regional Park District, the farm is an engaging way for kids to learn about the ways things used to be, back when a horse-drawn railway ran between Newark and Fremont, and walnut orchards, not office…
