I have been going to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival almost since its inception 42 years ago. What was once a wonderful arts and crafts festival has become one of the nation's premier outdoor fine arts festivals which now attracts over a quarter of a million people each year to view the works of over 330 of the finest artists and craftsmen in the world. Hosted by the Coconut Grove Arts & Historical Association, this has become one of the biggest events on the South Florida cultural calendar, the Festival offers visitors the opportunity to meet and talk with exhibiting artists, sample delicious food, enjoy live entertainment and gives kids create their own works of art. (Don't you wish you were young again?) Located in the heart of Coconut Grove, the Festival is set up on McFarlane Road, South Bayshore Drive and Pan American Drive. I remember years and years ago when we used to get upset because the show was growing and we had to park a couple of blocks away from McFarlane Road. Now, I suggest you take advantage of the shuttle service that runs approximately every 15 minutes from the Douglas Road Metrorail Station. Don't even try to drive into that madness! The only drawback is that this show is no longer free. It will cost you $5.00 to view the artists and other attendees; however, a portion of the proceeds from Festival admissions will benefit the Coconut Grove Arts & Historical Association's Building Fund. A three-day pass for $12.00 is also available. This is an event I have rarely missed in the last 42 years.
