It has been 2 years since I moved to Seattle from Mission Viejo and I am still looking for a vet that comes close to Dr. Wheaton and his team and every time I take my cats to a vet here in Seattle I wish that is was Dr. Wheaton we were seeing.

Alicia Pet Care is clean, smells nice, uses modern equipment, has a brilliant adoption palace and charges exactly what I expect to pay. From an operational perspective...they are a dream in the world of vet clinics. And Dr.Wheaton also posts excellent informational videos on their website. If I have a question, I will check their first before engaging on a grueling journey through the internet of possibly true and possibly not true advice.

I had three cats at the time, 19 years, 16 years, and 10 years. Literally out of the blue, my 16 year little old man developed a bump on his chin. We took him on a Saturday to a random vet (prior to my discovery of APCC). My service was about 2 stars and I left with no answers and eyes full of tears. I found APCC as a second opinion and knew that I didn't have to look further for another vet.

It turns out my little old man, Tori, had advance bone cancer of his jaw and potentially in his lungs. Dr. Wheaton having just put down one his own dog knew exactly what to say to make light of the situation. He gave me reasonable options that made sense. I wasn't ready to put Tori down and Dr. Wheaton knew that and understood, so he did his best to make Tori comfortable. In his final days, I took Tori to the office twice with the intentions of letting him go...and just couldn't do it. Both occasions Dr. Wheaton stayed in the room with me talking me through it and rationalizing the situation and what was best for Tori. I have no idea if he even had any other appointments on those days (I'm sure he did) because he made me feel like we were the only ones there.

Dr. Wheaton, If you ever read this, know how much you impacted me during one of the hardest days of my life. You are a truly gifted veterinarian and an honor to have been seen by. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and bedside manner. I wish my other two cats liked to travel because I would without question fly them down there for their office visits. : ) ps. I hope the picture of Tori made it's way to you. (Gray and white cat with a pink nose, in a white frame.)

The facility is nice. Fish tank in the front waiting room, clean office, higher end pet food and products. It is overpriced by 40% for prescription drugs versus Pet Meds.

Our young dog was diagnosed with cancer and Dr. Wheaton removed it. We had a bad experience though. Dr. Wheaton was insensitive and had poor people skills. He said we were too sensitive and to "put ear plugs in" when our dog came home yelping and hyperventilating from surgery for 3 days straight. He didn't give us options so we took her into an urgent care multiple times over the next couple of days and those doctors/surgeons didn't agree with Dr. Wheaton and gave her sedatives and medicine so she would sleep in peace while recovering.

If we didn't have the surgery experience with Dr. Wheaton (i.e. just normal check-ups) we would still go. Just pray that you don't have to deal with this doctor during a major animal crisis. Our new vet in Huntington Beach is all about the animals, reasonably priced and disagreed with how Dr. Wheaton handled our situation.

They gave my cats medicine claiming they were distressed and had infections (Dr. didn't seem knowledgeable) and said "Here's some antibiotics". Once I got home, I gave my cat and kitten their antibiotics and it made them puke all over the place. The next day I called the office letting them know that my cats were vomiting and the girl on the phone said she will switch them for me.

***Note I had just moved to the area from Costa Mesa and was looking for a vet just as good as my previous one***

Well, when I got there I went to pick up the medication, they wanted me to pay again. I told them thats not right because apparently they gave me medication for DOGS and I shouldn't have to pay full price again. The girls started arguing with me. They made such a fuss I had to leave because they embarrassed me. I immediately called up a vet who I trusted, but lives too far away for my cats, and let her know my cat's symptoms and medication given. She advised me NOT to go back because that medication can be toxic to cats (mainly used for dogs) and the symptoms described were allergies NOT an infection. My cats have been fine since then.

Don't waste your time or money. They misdiagnosed my cats and gave them medication used for dogs. They don't take responsibility for their actions. RIP OFF!

Excellent staff and even better vets! These doctors REALLY care about animals. They do more than just take your money and give you the minimum. They truly care for your animals, and they also support a lot of rescue work. You can feel good giving these people your money and knowing it will go further than just helping your animal. I highly recommend bringing your babies here. They will be loved and cared for. I wouldn't bring my animals anywhere else.

I drive 70 miles one way to take my doggies to see Dr. Wheaton and let me tell you, It??s worth it!! He takes his time to explain everything very clearly and covers all his bases by thinking outside the box. I??m confident that nothing ever goes unnoticed. I have found with other vets I have spent more money on BS in the long run and my dog??s medical statis still wasn??t solved. You definitely get what you pay for at Alicia Pet Care Center.

You won't find a more impressive veterinary facility in Orange County than Alicia Pet Care Center. I have taken a number of dogs to Dr. Wheaton for various ailments; many of which were very uncommon conditions; and Dr. Wheaton has been quick to diagnose what other vets have missed and has always taken the extra time and effort to not only come to that diagnosis, but to educate me on the dog's condition and to answer any and all questions that I have. I also do a lot of dog boarding and there isn't cleaner, more well kept veterinary boarding facility than Alicia Pet Care Center; nor is there one where the dogs are taken out of their cages more frequently. If you are looking for excellent veterinary care, a beautiful state of the art facility, and a boarding option for your pets where they will be kept clean, comfortable, and well cared for, look no further than Alicia Pet Care Center!

Alicia Pet Care Center is a breath of fresh air. The facility is impeccably clean and the employees are wonderful! The nurses and doctors speak to you on a more personal level rather than the cold treatment found at other clinics. I regularly take my cat in for a teeth cleaning and have always been impressed. This office is highly recommended!

Very few clinics have the ability, know-how, staff and expertise to make a veterinary trip worth every penny, time way from work and trust relinquished to care for my dear pets. APCC is nothing short of what a textbook clinic should be! Dr. Wheaton and his staff has been committed to superb service and, above all, building a solid relationship with me.

His nurses, Samantha, Anca, Bethany, Casey and Caroline (over the years) have shown me what true passion and caring should be. They take all the necessary time to be patient and above all LISTEN. From the moment I walk into an exam room the stress and nerves dissipate because I know, and so does my dog, he and I will be taken care of.

What I love and admire most about Dr. Wheaton is his civility, understanding and willingness to take time to do his job to the best of his abilities. A doctor who, once he wants into the exam room, sits right down and greets my dog on his level knows exactly what he is doing to provide service and care above everything else.

There motto ??We??re taking care of your babies? could be further from the truth. It??s always a pleasure to know I have nothing worry about when I need to pay APCC a visit!

My experience with the staff was great! Highly reccommended. They love pets. My litlle rescue kitty was just spayed. Dr Wheaton makes it very affordable to own a pet, and does not comprimise the quality of affordable pet care!!! THANK YOU!!

Dr. Wheaton and his team reached out and helped me when I found a dog that was in dire need of surgery. I found the dog dirty, emaciated, abused, shut-down, and with her eye hanging out, and damage to her jaw. He performed surgery on my dog for free until I could solicit enough donations to pay for it.

All of the staff at the Alicia Pet Care Center are AMAZING!!! I wouldn't leave my animals anywhere else. Precious Life is now a part of my family, and loves cats! Thanks to the Alicia Pet Care Center for saving my dog's life! This was the only vet in the entire state of California that I could find to do the surgery pro-bono until I could raise the funds. They don't just claim to love animals, they really show it!

Dr Wheaton and his staff offer a very warm friendly environment to bring your pets. The front staff are great, very friendly and warm ( and you don't see that at all vets), they great many clients by their first name and just make you feel welcome. Dr. Wheaton is wonderful with the animals, and will tell you how it is , which i definitely appreciate. It is very hard to find a vet you can trust to care for your pets. And I will only refer people to a vet I would trust, and I highly recommend Dr. Wheaton's practice to anyone. With the special needs pets I have, i am extremely particular about what vet I use, and as an animal rescuer He tells you what he recommends, but he wont push or force you into anything you don't feel comfortable doing for your pet and/or financially.I would only take our rescue animals to a vet I trust as well, as they deserve the best care possible. Plus Dr. Wheaton is doing alot of good in the community with his Affordable Spay/Neuter Clinic as we so desperately need more affordable spay/neuter services so we can stop the overwhelming pet overpopulation problem, with this clinic he is trying to help."

My experience at Alicia Pet Care Center was good. My cat had a dry and flaky nose that was odd. They were very nice and gave me realistic expectations of the cost and procedure that he would have to go through if I decided to continue. They didn't pressure me at all (another vet had tried to scare me into spending a lot of money elsewhere). The place is clean and everyone was very nice.

We used Alicia Pet Care Center for our two, three legged dogs with special needs. Everyone at Dr. Wheaton's pet care center is very caring. Dr. Wheaton is very knowledgeable, compassionate and competent. Were they a good deal? As far as the cost of veterinary services go, they are on par with others but Dr. Wheaton never pushed us into something not needed. He was very realistic and again, compassionate to us and our dogs. We completely trust him.

I have a few friends that rave about their clinic, and others that agree with me. Perhaps Dr. Wheaton and his staff have changed over the years, but I personally did not encounter a positive experience at Alicia Pet Care Center. I took my dog to Dr. Wheaton right when Dr. Hawkins started helping out at the clinic. My dog was a very laid back, calm girl that had no problems with boarding or hospital visits. However, after boarding her at Alicia Pet Care Center, she absolutely hated going back. I had never seen her act so fearful in my life, and really feel something must have traumatized her to impact her behavior so much.

Dr. Wheaton came highly recommended by a vet we trusted with the care of our Aussie until he moved to a cat-only facility. Since our first visit back in 2006, Dr. Wheaton and his staff have provided the care and compassion you would hope your own doctor might. Since that day we never took our Aussie to any other veterinarian except in an emergency outside of the APCC's normal business hours. Dr. Matthew Wheaton is known throughout South Orange County as one of the best. It's his compassion, optimism and ability to communicate with both pet and owner that make him our choice for taking care of our babies.

Dr. Hawkins and the entire staff at Alicia Pet Care Center treat us like family whenever we are there. It could be 6 months since our last visit and they always seem to remember our faces and our dog. They make sure that we are well informed before our aussie gets any treatments done. The new clinic is beautiful!

Dr. Wheaton's staff almost cares for my cat better than my wife and i do, believe it or not. I could not dream of having anyone else take care of my dear feline and Dr. Wheaton has always provided the best care and some of the most cutting edge options in animal medicine to us.

This clinic has shown loving, professional care to my animals over the past 5 years. Their equipment is state of the art. My cat was run over by a car and Dr. Matt patched her up so that she lived another three years (she was 19)...they saved my sanity because I was the one that ran over her...Pam

Highly recommend Drs. Wheaton and Northrop, especially for those dogs that pose more unique diagnostic challenges. No, this office is not the least expensive, nor is it the most expensive. However, I have two medically fragile dogs: one with external hepatic shunts (holes in the liver) and one with more severe brain issues (severe hydrocephalus and syringomyelia). Both were originally cared for by another local vet office. The dog with shunts began to worsen and the then-vet brushed it off. I insisted on a diagnostic ultrasound and immediately moved his care to Dr. Wheaton because I'd heard good things about the care. On the first visit, Dr. Wheaton addressed the results of the test (I was right) and asked me how I wanted to proceed. No forced treatment plans, no additional diagnostics. When we agreed on the plan, he immediately got the dietary department at UC Davis involved and I paid for a custom diet (with these dogs, it's managed with diet and lactulose). Yes, it was $250, but I saved that in two months from not having to buy special foods (the diet is much simpler than what I was doing) or any additional diagnostic tests. And, this dog is doing INCREDIBLY well. Mind you, my other vet attended UC Davis and could have suggested the same test. But didn't. I've never spent a better $250 and saved both my dog and my wallet.

For the second dog, she was diagnosed 3 years ago with a ""tense"" personality because she always held herself so rigidly. Yes, the then-vet did X-rays, but found nothing. Since she was new to my home, I accepted the psychological assessment. However, nearly three years later, I knew it wasn't right. My dog was clearly in pain, and it appeared to be in the neck. Since my first dog was dramatically improved with Wheaton, I took in the second one. In FIVE MINUTES Dr. Wheaton identified four possible issues, two of which he was absolutely sure. I expected X-rays and other tests. ""No, save your money, she has hydro cephalis and likely syringomyelia- there's nothing we need to do here. She's going to be referred to Dr. Berry (a well-known neurosurgeon).""
I know of Dr. Berry's reputation and it is well-earned. Dr. Berry immediately confirmed Dr. Wheaton's diagnosis. As I did my own research, turns out the #1 symptom of syringomyelia is.... neck pain. My dog suffered in pain for two years because of an incorrect diagnosis. As a pet owner, I felt horrible; I knew in my gut that diagnosis was sketchy. She is now on very simple and very inexpensive meds (no brain shunt, no surgery) and her quality of life is drastically improved.

Be a wise consumer; perhaps Dr. Wheaton is not the least expensive for the more mundane issues, but I know that as other dogs age and develop issues, I will not take them anywhere but to this office. As a consumer and pet owner, you make the decisions about what you will and will not do for your animal. But, at least I know that I get good information and get choices. The rest is up to me: peace of mind is priceless.

I don't usually do a lot of online reviewing, but was just curious about reading the reviews for my vet. I was motivated to write when I saw that people were complaining about the prices here. I happened upon this vet, by coincidence... (My dog gets car sick and I needed a place that was within an 1 hour walk from my house) I had been going to a chain type vet clinic that had moved locations. I was pleasantly surprised to find Dr. Wheaton and Dr. Forman. The have both been great. They are both very kind and do a great job of explaining things carefully, so there is no confusion. They also take time to be thorough with the animals, which is nice... When I was in with the vet on my first visit, my Mother was waiting in the reception area. Later she told me that while she was waiting she had received GLOWING reviews about Dr. Wheaton from the other people who had been coming there for a while. I was happy that I had stumbled upon a great vet and have had nothing but great care ever since. As for the COST. I found that in general, I spend less on my visits there than I ever did at the Chain clinic. Perhaps some things might be a bit more expensive, but overall the superior care is well worth it. Medications are never cheapest at vet's offices, but there are other options for that...

Dr. Wheaton and his staff are the best. The care your pet receives here is top notch. My dog Buddy suffered a horrendous heat stroke a few weeks ago and almost died. Dr. Wheaton and his experienced staff saved his life and gave Buddy a second chance. We have been going to the clinic since 2005, but never really had a problem until a few weeks ago. I can now safely say that if you just need routine care OR have some sort of a trauma with your pet, Alicia Pet Care Center is where you want to be. I give my highest recommendation to this clinic to take care of your animals.

Hold on to your wallets, folks.

I would not recommend this place. For my OFFICE visit, which needed to be conducted before my dog could be spayed, the sum total was: (sit down) $430.
I will break it down for you:
-ANAL GLANDS: 33.00 (what??? most other vets charge 15.00)
-PARASITE SCREEN: 42.00 (I was talked into this. Did not need it.)
-BORTADELLA: 12.00 (normal)
-RABIES SHOT: 12.00 (normal)
-MOXXOR SUPPLEMENT: 70.00 (This is sold at their front desk as this superior supplement, supposed to be equivalent to 300 fish oil capsules a day. I wish I listened to my instincts and said no. Later that evening, I went online to investigate this product, and it turns out that it is a Multi-Level-Marketing thing, of which Dr. Wheaton is a part!!! So he sure benefits from everyone he signs up!!! Beware!!!)
-INTERCEPTOR: 82.00 (a steep price for the heartworm medication. Other vets sell it for $70)
-JUNIOR WELLNESS PROFILE: 85.00 (the bloodwork panel they do before the spay. Whatever.)
-OFFICE VISIT: 59.00 (a little higher than average)

So this was done the week before her spay. The cost of the surgery, plus dental cleaning, and a microchip?
.....wait for it.....$477!!!! (They give you a break down, and try to make it look like you are getting such a discount, because before the discounts, it WOULD have been an additional $933. Come ON! Who in their right mind would ever pay $1400 for a spay anyway???)

My dog had a very bad reaction to the spay, up all night, moaning, throwing up, shaking. Because she was throwing up, I couldn't give her the pain medication. I felt terrible that she was in so much pain. The office, when I called, acted like, ""Oh well. That happens to some dogs.""

I decided that this whole place (although the office IS quite beautiful with the waterfall and all, that is probably why the prices are so high, to cover the overhead of the decorating of the office) anyway, the whole outfit is more concerned with charging the highest fees, and pushing services you don't really need. (Moxxor? Come ON.)

I have moved on to a different vet. Prices are much more in line of what is the average. Very happy with them.

I just felt it was important to give you a fair warning of how much you will be paying. These days, who can afford to pay these Newport Beach/Beverly Hills prices?

I drive 70 miles one way to take my doggies to see Dr. Wheaton and let me tell you, Its worth it!! He takes his time to explain everything very clearly and covers all his bases by thinking outside the box. Im confident that nothing ever goes unnoticed. I have found with other vets I have spent more money on BS in the long run and my dogs medical statis still wasnt solved. You definitely get what you pay for at Alicia Pet Care Center.

I was very pleased with the care my Welsh Springer Spaniel received at Alicia Pet Care Center. She is 13 years old and her skin allergies / itching had gotten increasingly bad . I really thought that I'd tried everything and that it was hopeless ! Dr. Amy Rosencrantz was so caring and helpful and was determined to get my dog some relief . She and Dr. Wheaton worked together and came up with a plan of action. Dr. Rosencrantz made sure that I knew the course of meds would take awhile to kick in and encouraged me to be patient . She was right and I am happy to say that my dogs skin allergies have improved tremendously ! Yes ,some of the new medications being tried for pet allergies are a little pricey but it is a price I'm willing to pay to see my sweet spaniel happy and healthy. Thank you Dr. Rosencrantz and Alicia Pet Care Center.

After reading all of the great reviews I felt pretty good about this place... Everyone LOVED the vet. Price for office visit was reasonable ($59), same for vaccines ($36 for group of 3).
I was a bit unsure when I was told the usual vet was out (Wheaton?) but I could see Dr. Rosencrantz... I was bit apprehensive, but I needed my dog checked right away.
...Should have trusted my instincts.
I waited a HALF hour just to be seen. Doesn't seem too bad; except the place was EMPTY.
I had requested my dog be sedated, because he's very nervous (barks and acts bad - but has never bitten). I was told he couldn't get sedation until he had been examined. That would make it tougher... but with a muzzle & me helping to keep him calm - I've handled it before.
Well, this vet couldn't have been more than a year or two out of school; and clearly had NO clue how to handle anything other than a very well behaved dog or cat perhaps. I was in another room with my other dog; so she held the dog while my husband switched places with me so I could talk to her. I enter the room to find her hold him as far away as possible, my dog twisting on the leash, trying to bark, and muzzled so tightly there is NO way he could bite her, and he's a good 2-3 feet away! She looked petrified, and accused my dog of (her words) ""Trying to kill me"".
Anyway to make a very long story (and visit) shorter... She ended up doing NOTHING except giving me the sedatives I asked for in the first place so I could bring him back dosed enough for her to handle.
Oh... and the finale... the other dog who I brought along for vaccines had a rash from flea bites so she prescribed 2 sets of meds.. which came to a total of TWO HUNDRED and TWENTY dollars for TWO bottles. My bill which I expected to be around $200 was $428!!!!
All I can say is BEWARE!! and WAIT to see the other doctor.
I one GOOD thing I can say is the assistants were nice enough... but SLOW - we spent 1 1/2 hours there... total time spent actually checking the dogs and giving the one shots... MAYBE 15 minutes.
Honestly - for MY experience today SORTA good (2 stars) is pretty generous.

I adopted the perfect dog, in the Marley and Me way, from Alicia Pet Care Center and am so grateful and blessed for the addition to my family. Without a doubt we chose to use Dr. Wheaton as are primary vet through allergy's, surgery and many other situations a first time, ornery, puppy owner could freak out over. Dr. Wheaton has been like a member of our family helping us overcome the challenges of being a first time puppy owner and for that I'm grateful it's not often today a company, The Alicia Pet Care family; aka. all the girls and josh, provides you a service while making you feel like your apart of a family.

THANK YOU ALICIA PET CARE CENTER

First off they are doing awesome things for the community. I rescued my cat Moose from the Pet Rescue Center; which is Dr. Wheatons rescue run out of Alicia Pet Care Center. I took Moose to Alicia Pet Care Center for all of his kitten shots. The Staff is very friendly and helpful. They taught me how to be a good cat owner. I am a student and have to say that their prices were VERY reasonable especially for my budget. The day I got Moose fixed I was a mess. The staff there really seems to understand what that day is like for a kitty mom like me. When I left I knew he was in the best care possible. I love them and recommend them to everyone I know. Thank you Alicia Pet Care Center and keep up the incredible work!!

I brought my cat in because he had a nasty cold. The team ran tests and relayed the results in a friendly and personal manner rather than the ""doctor speak"" I have found at other offices. The office itself is spotless and the front desk staff is welcoming and helpful. I can't recommend this office enough!

The doctor's are all about wellness and preventative care and I always leave with a thorough understanding of how to care for my pup. The staff is very friendly and on a first-name basis with the owners (and pets). Alicia Pet Care Center gets five stars!

You will have to travel forever to experience the kind of care your cat or dog, will have at the Alicia Pet Care Center. The vets and the staff are the best! They treated a cat that I found (lying in the street with a hit and run injury to the pelvic area) with such care and kindness, which resulted in a full recovery for the cat. The new facility is like taking your baby to the spa! Beautiful cat kennels and play areas, dog runs and spacious boarding facilities. The staff have a great positive work ethic and always greet you with a smile and a soothing word. Would not have my dog and cat treated anywhere else but here. Try it and see if I am right on!

I have been taking my two cats and dog to Alicia Pet Clinic since 2005. I have never found such friendly and caring Dr.'s and Staff to take care of my babies. I have had animals all my life and have had many a Vet. I love that they are educational, they don't just say that ""this"" is what is wrong with your animal and ""this"" is what you have to do to fix it. They sit down with and talk to you about different approaches and why it may have happened and what it could lead to. They are also very reasonably priced. I highly recomend these guys to anyone who cares even an ounce for their animal. They truley are the best I have ever had.

I almost wanted to cry when I had to move away from the area a few years ago. The search for a vet comparable to Dr. Wheaton was long and hard. When I moved back to Aliso Viejo over a year ago and walked through the doors to this clinic again, it felt like coming home (and I swear my cat seemed more calm too!). Dr. Wheaton not only seems to know about all the newest and best treatments for your animals, but he does try to push things on you like some of the other salesmen...er...uh...vets seem to do. That right there is reason enough for me to stay loyal to his clinic. But when you throw in his learned and caring staff too... forget about it... this place is the best around.... hands down... no... make that PAWS down! :)
