This is the worst financial institution I`ve ever used.
I wish I could give them zero stars but one is the least possible.

The people you have to deal with are jerks and treat you like trash.

Brian Hege was the worst person I`ve ever dealt with in customer service.

The general attitude is that no one can decide anything on site, everything has to be sent off somewhere else. And the people don`t care one bit about you - I guess for minimum wage you probably wouldn`t either!!!

Charge fee's for online payments. Dont make it easy to make said payments. Crude, crass and threatening to customers with What we say goes attitude. Now When I pay my auto loan off early(just to get away from them) they add 756.00 of auto insurance to my loan. When I, supposedly get this settled, they lie and tell me the extra amount I paid over the loan amount(to make sure i get this over with want to get away from these crooks badly) will be put into a savings account. I call back 3 weeks later and they say I still owe the money and my Insurance Co. never contacted them. Liars, cheats and crooks!!!!!!! I should let em have a car with a blown motor and see how good they are at cutting theyre losses these people are sorry sorry individualls.

The service and benefits of being a member of CFCU is increasingly worsening. After reading the reviews, I see that I am not alone in my experiences there. I have had my cards canceled several times because CFCU suspects hacking of a store database. CFCU has never notified me of the threat to my account, and canceled my card, leaving me unable to pay at a pump, and to pay at the grocery line, to my embarrassment. Each time, (no) customer service stated that they do not know why the card was cancelled, guessed that a store database was hacked (they cannot say which store), and that a card and pin should have been sent to me. Each time, ncs said they would send a card and pin. In each occurrence, I received a pin, with no card arriving before or after the pin. Each time, I was left with no easy access to my account for at least two weeks. The closest branch to me is the St Albans Drive branch 50 minutes away from my home, and in the opposite direction from my workplace. The St Albans Drive branch employees are rude, and condescending at best. The manager is rudest of all being both ignorant and arrogant at the same time. The woman wears a flag pin and a cross pin on her badge. She makes me embarrassed for her that she is an example of why the world does not trust America, or Christians to be honest and caring people. My account is still open-- until I find another bank. Can anyone recommend a good bank that one can depend on to keep our hard earned money secure--not for them, but for us?

I have been a member of Coastal Federal for nearly six years. I have always found the employees to be polite, courteous and professional. When going through financial problems they were there for me and gave me personal consideration. I will continue to do business with Coastal and am glad they ar here in Raleigh area!

DEC 2010, I switched my home mortgage from SECU _-5.22%(they would not lower their rates) to 3.87% and car loan -4.75(same story) to 3.25%.
That's $330.00/month I saved by switching from SECU to Coastal.

And yes I am a happy camper

CFCU has the worst customer service I've ever encountered. They made a mistake on my account, and I had to fight to make things right. Calls are not returned promptly. The customer is always wrong. Finally after a one-year fight and many calls, CFCU finally corrected their error.

Yes, you are right! CFCU sucks. They just sent out notice that the Board has to fill two "upcoming vacancies" and recommend two people that WILL get the positions anyway. You really have to read the fine print to learn that they are the same people in the job now. One has been Chairman of the Board (and management's own lap dog looking for a treat) for about 100 years! Sad.

They just built a big new office on Creedmore Rd - good rumor has it that they did not even go out for bids to get the best price? BIG question of the CFCU execs: WHY NOT? The interest rates paid for savings accounts aren't close to what the State Employees Credit Union pays their members. BIG question to the CFCU execs: WHY NOT? The CFCU Board of Directors (put there by the CFCU execs) are the same ones since forever. New blood that actually represents the interest of the members should be rotated onto the Board. CFCU is the ABSOLUTE WORST, as stated below by some of the other people that have fallen prey to the terrible economy CFCU WILL NOT work with you. I was a few days behind in paying my car payment and because I had some money in my checking account they auto-drafted ALL of the money from my checking and put it towards my car payment. Since then I no longer use their account, but they do manage to continue to harass me. I was trying to make partial payments at 1 point and they basically said THEY WON'T RECOGNIZE A PYMT UNTIL IT'S PAID IN FULL. "Customer Service" is not in this organization's vocabulary. I'm sorry to be able to say that since I have worked in the banking industry myself and I KNOW that it can be a service organization.
The phone service is pathetic and the face-to-face service at ANY branch is the same - seriously pathetic! If you ask the same question to three different employees - you get three different answers. Give me break - where is the training and customer care?

This credit union has almost non-existent customer service. I have been unable to make an external funds transfer for 5 days, and have made at least 4-6 calls to "customer service" (actually, that term does not even apply to what I've experienced.) I was told my inquiry would be forwarded to their IT department and someone would call me, "because you cannot contact them directly." It's been two days and I haven't heard from a soul. I'm seriously considering closing my account. I hate the long telephone waits and menus, I hate banking with a television screen, while other employees are standing around doing NOTHING. I can't think of one thing to recommend this organization.

Would NOT do business with them.If you have the unfortunate experience of losing a job, called economy in the ditch now, they will repo anything, sell it for less and then come after you for the balance.They just recently did my son this way that has an 8 month old baby,had lost his job,had a piece of land he had bought to one day put a mobile home on with his dad's inheritance I had put back for him when he was 13,to make a life for his family. They would not work with him on payments, put a lean on his land so he couldn't sale it, and now they may become homeless! Greed and bad business practices. Stay away!! In this economy no one knows from day to day what may happen to them.This company needs to be looked into especially since it carries the word Federal! You would think they needed millions the way they have pursued this. Then somehow it has jumped from 4 to 5 thousand they wanted to now 9! What's up with that? Spread the word so we can put this company out of business, maybe it's investors are getting rich but the plan working men and families are becoming homeless! Oh by the way, the customers on here that love this bank are probably the CEO's using false names or something or they have to be crazy people! Maybe even employees scared of LOSING THEIR JOBS!

I have a few problems with Coastal:

1) Questionable service - customer service now...well...it sucks.
2) Branches - They no longer service Charlotte (where I happen to live). Guess they figure they'll do just as fine servicing such a limited area. Doesn't make business sense to me, but then again what do I know.
3) Don't fall on hard times, then you'll get a hard time from them. No matter how long you've been a customer. They'll throw a 20+ year relationship out the window over a negative $30 balance (not their fault but an oversight on mine). Got a letter saying that it had been 7 days and their needed to be a deposit made soon or the account would be closed and sent to collections. Damn, my bad! Oh, by the way CFU I'm not dead thanks for checking.

They don't deserve even this 1 star. Two weeks ago, my check card out of nowhere got rejected, everywhere I tried to make a purchase. So of course I called them - turns out someone made a compromised purchase, using my card. So they had to block it. Yet, they didn't find it necessary to inform me(!). The sales associate told that CFCU will contact me in 2 business days, which they of course did not. When I called them myself, the guy on the phone was extremely rude and bitchy. I haven't had access to my own money for over two weeks now. Still waiting for the check card, which they were careless enough not to send out immediately. Oh, and the fall semester has just started, so of course I needed to pay for so many things, that I used my credit card - reached the limit, transferred the amount from my checking account to my credit card. And certainly it is taking them just as long to process this transaction. Terrible customer service, absolutely obnoxious sales associates.
After this experience, I will certainly close my CFCU accounts and head to Chase bank or American Express. Please avoid them, spare yourselves time, energy, and nerves.

I have banked with a lot of different banks in my 35 years of banking experience and in my opinion Coastal Federal Credit Union ROCKS!!! I think that people who don't like them are the ones who are always getting charged late fees and NSF fees because of their own crappy banking skills. Yes I know that banks make mistakes but I know that it is always rectified and typically they compensate you. I have only been with CFCU for a little over 7 months but my short but extensive experience has shown me that they are a GREAT bank. I am a very happy customer and recommend them to anyone I can. In fact if my family lived in NC I know they would all join as they already wish they could.

DON'T DO IT! I had a car loan through them and when I moved to NY it all fell apart since I no longer could pay them directly at the window. They randomly charged me late payments, and NEVER updated my contact information all 3 times I called. My savings account has mysteriously disappeared now! AHHHH They are awful!

Your policies does not benefit the member with special needs or requests. The mass flow approach works well for the business aspect but not the consumer or member when the needs that they reqiure is outside of the format which has been esatblished by the heirarchy within the establishment. For the past six years not only has location of branches and services have been issues but the negative attitude displayed by the staff emplyed by the credit union to provide services is robotic and scripted. Anything off script is not even considered, and members are being told to drive hundreds of miles to gather information that should be provided without all the rainbow tape. Your website provide me with nomial information at best. I call the telephone number listed on your website and even though it is a local number it is a call center which has less than personal effects on members. Concerns of cost cutting has left menber services in a suffering state.

I purchased a car in January and CFCU financed my loan. 11 mos. later the engine blew in the car to the tune of 8K to replace. I called and asked for a little help, maybe a slight reduction in the interest rate (15%) so that I could afford to save for a new engine while paying for the car and full coverage insurance while I couldn't drive it. No help from them there. So I continue making payments and today I get a phone call about my payment (due the day before) from a very rude customer service guy who is insisting that I make my payment by credit card because I was overdue - by one day. When I told him I was headed to the branch as I usually do to make my payment, he wanted to know which branch so he could call them and have them confirm that I was making my payment. I asked him just HOW MANY late payments were on my account and he said none....so I asked him WHY are you calling me for 1 day (granted I KNOW that is late, but there IS a grace period) and he said it's policy. Never had I received a call from them for even 2 days at the latest, but all of a sudden they are calling me (because I made them aware of the situation with the car and had asked for help). Not only am I paying for a car that I can't drive (not their fault), I'm having to carry full coverage insurance (not their fault), but was treated very rudely, adding salt to my already open wound. I've been a customer for 18 years. They should fire everyone at the Falls of Neuse location and start over, especially the branch manager, and the tellers: Pretty Parekh, another with long blondish brown hair and another Latino woman! It is shocking how their customer service has plummeted while rude attitude has skyrocketed. This is specifically at the Falls of Neuse location. I never have this problem anywhere else. The environment there is unprofessional, right down to the rap music they play in the lobby. The branch manager is just as obnoxious and as rude and distrusting of their customers as the tellers. It is such an unpleasant experience going there that I have often driven an hour out of my way to go to another branch instead and have resolved that if it doesn't change, I will close all of my accounts and move to another credit union. For years I had bragged how great this credit union was and encouraged friends to join. Now I have nothing but complaints. It is sad that they have lost touch with the reality of why they are in business in the first place. They do not even rate one star... When you complain to the upper management, nothing is done and the same issues continue to exist. A thorough house-cleaning is in order to fix the problems that exist.

I've been a customer for 18 years. They should fire everyone at the Falls of Neuse location and start over, especially the branch manager, and the tellers: Pretty Parekh, another with long blondish brown hair and another Latino woman! It is shocking how their customer service has plummeted while rude attitude has skyrocketed. This is specifically at the Falls of Neuse location. I never have this problem anywhere else. The environment there is unprofessional, right down to the rap music they play in the lobby. The branch manager is just as obnoxious and as rude and distrusting of their customers as the tellers. We'll never bank with them again. Or tell others to go to them. They are so sorry when they make mistakes they like to make others pay. ten yrs. wasted for whatttttt???? Was told when you have to pay overdraft fees the employees get to have a party off that. They returned the same check twice when we have bounce guard all they said,"Oh we are so sorry we'll put the $30.00 back ,but we can't put the $20.00 you had to pay by phone".Well you know Coastal we are out no more of your bs. SECU now have us as customers.

I have been a member for 11 years. Over the past year, their customer service has been slipping through the cracks. Their willingness to keep customers amazes me, and I get the feeling that they would rather you go somewhere else to bank. Im doing just that.

your money and your credit worthiness is better off somewhere else! I have 2 accounts here (auto loans set-up by dealer),they are very unorganized send in my payments with the coupon,the payments either get lost,posted wrong,or not posted at all. Terrible company,terrible customer service. They have also been reporting me late on my credit bureau.I'm getting whistle blower 9 involved!! on scale of 1 to 10 i rate them -1

RE: an earlier gripe in a review that they put their statements on Internet Explorer. Ummm, you put web pages on the web, not on web browsers. And if they restricted their web site so that Internet Explorer wouldn't work, they would be excluding 80% of their customers.

Having been a member for only one year I have never had a problem at Coastal. Always greeted with a smile and a hello....how are you today. The staff at Whiteoaks is outstanding and goes beyond the 100% help factor. They have helped me pool all my savings and retirement funds and invest it .
It's nice to walk into a bank and not have to wait to talk to someone when all you have is a question or even when you want help with paper work.
After having my account at a larg bank and waiting from 30 min to over 1 hour to talk to someone about MY money this is a pleasant change. Needless to say all my funds are now at Coastal.
Keep up the good work!!!!

We set up an online account to view our statements and set several alerts, in particle, an alert that payment was due in 5 days. This worked well until May when they "upgraded" their site, www.eZCardInfo.com. We received no alert and missed the May payment for which we received a finance charge. I have spent countless hours trying to contact them and getting routed through their lengthy menu to a general support person who tells me to contact the financial institute that issued the card. They kindly give me the number and transfer my call, only to find myself in menu hell once again. I do not feel that this finance charge is appropriate and want it removed and want an assurance that it will not show up in our credit reports.
Oh, and in spite of the numerous security systems they have for their clients to access their own account on line, they put statements on Internet Explorer, the most problem-prone and easy to hack system there is!
Talk about customer service! They could certainly use a refresher because they USED to be the best.

WHen you got something good - you should stick with it! I've been an associate of the Coastal Federal Credit Union for the last ten years. The customer service at the Saint Albans branch is amazing! Whether you're going to a teller, through the drive-through, using the ATM, applying for home or equity loan - you will always receive some good service.. They are ALWAYS prompt, efficient, and courteous. They offer very good rates. And they have some great incentives, too. Highly recommended for thos of you who long for a bank of days gone by!

I have been with Coastal for over 5 years. While I love the fact that this credit union has great loan rates (bought a car through them) and decent savings rates, I just wish there were more branches. When I lived in Raleigh, the slection was ok, but now that I live 30 min south of Raleigh, my closest branch is a 35-40 minute drive from my house.

I would recommend this credit union, if you don't mind not having a local branch close by.
