Luxor Cab Co. has been independently owned and operated since 1928. Luxor Cab Co. was one of the first cab company in San Francisco. The fleet consisted of ten cars. At the time there were no bridges and taxi's were dispatched through call boxes located on street corners. During the depression drivers were hard to come by. Dust bowl refugees overwhelmed California. Plans for the Golden Gate Bridge were on the drawing board. Luxor CabIn 1938 Luxor was the first Cab company to cross the new Bay Bridge. Two luxorCrossingBaybridge_01years later the world was at war. Taxi hoods had to be bolted down to avoid sabotage and gas had to be rationed. Shared rides with military personnel were a way of life. Luxor introduce two-way radio dispatch and increases their fleet to 30 cars. As of 2006, Luxor's fleet now consists over 200 cabs.

Worst customer service and CURSING cab driver. They tell you they'll be there in 1 minute, but don't. Then cab driver comes late and has the nerve to get angry when you tell him so. Will never use this company again! \r

Booked a cab online earlier in the day thru their website for a 7pm pick-up. Was sent a text with a confirmation number. By 7:10pm when they hadn't shown up, I called. Waited 10 min on hold only to be told that there were no cabs

On 6/8/2010 blogger, CNN and Chronicle contributor, and CEO of Sports Business Simulations Zennie Abraham was kicked out of Luxor Cab #1046 CA License number 8L46060, when the cab driver slow down to tell him that he thought another guy had called the cab, upon hearing this Zennie said that he did not hear anybody calling or moving towards the cab, the cab driver insisted that another guy wanted the taxi. Zennie said that he probably was upset because he thought the white guy next to him had called the cab and instead a black man got in. When the cab driver heard this he stopped the car and started yelling get out of my cab.

He contacted Luxor Cab Company and the SF Taxi Commission and both seem to ignore the situation.

Cons: Client is always wrong

I call them for a cab and half an hour later nothing shows up, then i call them for information about my cab and they hang up in my face. Yellow Cab is way better

I take a cab home from work 5 nights a week, and I always call Luxor. Even though you have to wiat through the long message, I always get someone on the phone, and I have always been picked up in a timely fashion. The drivers are typically friendly and know their way around the city. I would definitely recommend this company.

I'm writing this review because I tried to call about this and promptly was ignored by the dispatch operator...
This morning, during busy commute time on SF 101 between SFO and the city, my husband and I were PASSED by Luxor cab#841, going at least 75-80mph. Not such a big deal, except that we noticed too disturbing things: 1. The cab was operating with one of the tires replaced by the 1/2-size spare tire, and 2. there was a fare in the back seat.
All it takes is one accident due to negligence of this sort and somebody is going to get really hurt.
(note: we were only able to determine the cab was Luxor and #841 when we caught up to it at the lights going off the freeway by the ball park. it flew by us in a blur!)

Luxor is the one I count on when I've GOT to be there sooner than overnight! The drivers are reliable--they won't decide to stand you up in favor of your lowlife neighbor who tries to steal your cab (HA HA YOU WEASEL-HEADED WOULD-BE CAB JUMPER! ) and they'll actually get out to open doors and help with baggage. These folks are the next best thing to having your own chauffeur.

Luxor is the one I count on when I've GOT to be there sooner than overnight! The drivers are reliable--they won't decide to stand you up in favor of your lowlife neighbor who tries to steal your cab (HA HA YOU WEASEL-HEADED WOULD-BE CAB JUMPER! ) and they'll actually get out to open doors and help with baggage. These folks are the next best thing to having your own chauffeur.

I told her that I don't have an elevator and I have to get down 5 flights of stairs with my broken leg (to get to the hospital). It was 9:00am and I asked for a taxi at 10:00am, but I wanted to give her a heads up that even though I was starting to take on the stairs at 9:30am that it may take me a few minutes longer to get to the taxi, she yelled, "Oh that's great! I told you we were really busy and you're going to make the taxi wait around! And then she hung up on me! I wouldn't take a luxor cab anywhere ever again if you paid me. Luxor doesn't repect it's customers.

Luxor used to have a very good reputation in SF and I used them a lot. However, they have gone way done hill. Last week, I called a cab and when it pulled up outside of my apartment I went to it. However, it had pulled away before I could get outside. I called again and complained. Another cab was sent. It arrived and did the same thing. In addition, I had to wait on hold 10 minutes just to get a dispatcher each time. This service sucks.

I was in SF this weekend and used LUXOR Cab company quite a bit. The dispatchers were friendly and the drivers were professional, courteous and easy going. The wait time was anywhere from 5 - 25 minutes on the weekend. I will definitely use LUXOR again on my next trip!
