My family and I drive to North Carolina a few times a year. We always have dinner at Sparks. We have never been disappointed in the food or service. I would recommend Sparks and have to any visiting the Apex area. My husband, son, and son-in-law say that the ribs are the best they have ever had. Try it!

THIS IS THE WORST PLACE IN APEX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bar service is the WORST ! Management isn't much better, DO NOT GO HERE ! Afew weeks back i went to sparks and I had a very positive dinner experience, my watress was a very nice and positive younger girl, i was really liking the place... UNTILL I WAS DONE WITH DINNER ! When i went over into the bar side it was a compleetly different story, RUDE and LOUD female bar tender that was cursing at customers like a salor, SHE HAD a raspy voice that carried across the room while yelling vulgur things. The so called manager was just a rude actually pushed me out of the way when going across the room. THIS IS NOT GOOD SERVICE! if you want a good experience STAY IN THE DINING AREA OR TAKE YOUR FOOD TO GO !!!!!!!!!!

The meats were pretty good, however they lacked any true smoke that great BBQ has to have. The sides were a huge disappointment though. I don't think anything is made by hand and is just pulled from the freezer or pre-packaged container from Sam's Club. How hard is it to make fresh onion rings?
I would probably go back for their specials but wouldn't say it's a can't miss dining experience. The wings were the best thing we had, not a good sign from a self proclaimed "Best Ribs" place.

THIS IS THE WORST BAR I HAVE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE. Not only did it take 5 minutes to order a drink at the bar top, I was charged for drinks that I did not consume. When I approached the male bar tender, he took off one of the unconsumed drinks. When I approached the "manager" she replied "What the F*** is your problem?!" I said, "excuse me?!" I am a bartender myself, working behind the bar for over 3 years. I know EXACTLY how much alcohol my significant other and myself drank. When I replied to her, "This drink was not ordered", she called me a B**** and told me to "get the f*** out" and threatened she would call police. Of course I left, because I did not cause any trouble NOR did I lie about the amount of alcohol I consumed. She refused to return the tip I left her (which is illegal), and threated to call the police on me. Like I said, I have been a bartender for 3 years, and when the police are called, the bartender is always right, because they are the ones who have not consumed alcohol. I was disgraced by the way the situation was handled and have gotten a hold of each of the bartenders names, and the owners phone number, who I will be calling directly about this HORRENDOUS situation tomorrow. I am offended and will steer any patron away from this establishment.

This is the only bar ANYWHERE that provided all the ECU games this season! I was so pleased so sit among a sea of purple and gold. There was an instant feeling of welcome and family among the "regular" crowd, too, even though they are mostly UNC fans, they were cheering for us as well.

Other days I checked the place out and did notice the service was a little slow at the bar, but I've never seen a girl back there! But the BBQ/Rib plate I ordered made up for any short-comings. And the hush puppies are unique and fabulous.

The crowd is diverse and fun, and I had my very first karaoke experience there and it was a blast!

All in all, it seems nothing like the older, bad reviews on this site. I'd definately send my friends and family there for a fun time. (My guy friends say they need some hot chicks behind the bar!)

Know beforehand that this place charges $25.00 for opening a tab that may disappear from your statement within five business days. Ask for a detailed receipt before leaving to make sure only YOUR food and drinks were charged to your card. Also, have anyone who accompanied you, check their receipts as well, in order to be sure they were not charged for the same drinks or some other patron's food/drinks that they are not even familiar with. Finally, please make sure you check your statement in order to make sure you were only charged ONCE for the time that you were there, and that it is again, for the correct amount.

Our husband and I frequent Sparks Wings and Ribs on a regular basis. He loves the ribs and I am partial to their sluggers. The experience is always pleasant, especially since they have a smoke free dining room. You get a lot of food for your money. We don't leave hungry, that's for sure. I would recommend them. Try the Smashley. It's an awesome drink and it's a Sparks original!

We all have had bad experiences and I understand that when you have a bad experience perception is real to you. I was at the bar when this happened. I liked how this lady started off in the bar with ??do you know who I am!? It seemed to me that the ??mop boy? she wanted to verbally abuse turned out to be the manager. Who, I felt, did a great tactful job at trying to defend himself to someone that was so quickly angered. It seemed that she was even more angered because she did not have anyone to brow beat and ??notify? about being ??un-assaulted? by a mop. Oh the horror and disgrace that I am sure that she wanted to spew to any ear that would bend about her experience. I also like how she is making it her personal mission to degrade the character of another person with her ??status.? I also enjoyed how she got a friend to log in a ??100% boycott an establishment? So basically she threw a fit, and because no one bowed down and kissed her ??Prada??s? we all should ignore our own opinions and try to destroy a family business. I am not trying to insult this ??lady? and I am trying to use restraint to be honest about the situation. But, I am offended. We all have businesses and we all are trying our best to support each other as a community. I actually was going to log on to thank Alex and Kyle for doing their part in supporting families and having a fundraiser for ??Caitlins Cause.? I saw the banner and came back to support this family, that I don??t even know, because I felt that this was the right thing to do. When I read what this woman said it just bothered me. I witnessed this incident, and what she said just made me hang my head in disbelief and sadness. I cannot believe that a person would go so far to be a ??rightfighter.? We are all in the same economic crisis and no one is better than anyone else. So please save the attitude that you are better than the rest of us to a low roar.
I can appreciate the fact that people have an opinion, but trying to degrade the character of one person because, you feel like you have the POWER to do so, is not helpful. How about this, we all support each other as a community, we use our POWER to make positive changes. The last thing that we need is for businesses in our wonderful small town to be closed because of absurd allegations such as this. As professionals we should be able to talk out or issues in a civil manner. I love the town of Apex, and I love the hometown feel of the people and the events that are offered here. I am so tired of bullies like this and their hateful ways in trying to make a negative impact on our businesses. I work for a competitor of Sparks but we all support each other. I don??t want to be fearful that a woman like this can come into my business and throw a fit and then have something like this show up on the message board. Lets all do our best at supporting our local businesses. I ask you fine people of Apex to use your own opinions and ignore people that have a person agenda of promoting negativity on our family businesses by personally attacking someone??s character.

visited Sparks for the first time tonight with a friend for Karokee night. I am a business owner myself, and immediately hit it off with the bartender, Mike. After spending over $80 on a Thursday night, where there were maybe 12 people in the entire place, I thought I had found a nice place to bring employees and clients for drinks. I was sitting at the bar, sipping a non-alcolohic red bull, when someone spilled an entire beer all the way down my dress and in my hair. I was not upset, and a bartender immediately brought me big papertowels to clean up. As I am trying to wipe down, a guy comes up with a mop and begins pushing me with the mop, mopping over my feet, which are Prada sandals. I said, excuse me and he said, im sorry, but I didn't think I needed to ask you to move since I am cleaning up your mess. Shocked, since I am neither drunk nor the one who spilled anything, simply a patron who got drenched, I said, I didn't spill anything. I got spilled on. He huffed and puffed at me, and wiped over my feet again to push me away. I then said, why do you have an attitude with me? I have been sitting here enjoying my night not causing any problems and was a victim of a drunk spilling a whole beer on me. He said, You want to try to start something? and put the broom inches from my face with his face up to mine. I asked to speak to a manager, and he said I am the general manager, Alex, and I'm telling you to leave now. ?????? So, without asking what happened, without apolozing for what happened to a good customer who spent more money than anyone else at the bar, who is soaked from head to toe in beer, he decides the right thing to do is tell me to leave????? This has to be the worst customer service I have ever gotten....and after I was so happy to find a place right down from my own business where I could go to relax after work...a neighbor, at that....I am appalled! This Alex guy obviously has anger problems, because I am a very presentable female who not only had already inquired about renting the Karokee girl, but who was inquiring about renting out the entire bar for a special event. I cannot believe the conduct of this so called general manager after I had heard such nice things about Kyle, the owner. No phone calls were returned to me from Kyle, and they have no idea how much business they lost by treating an innocent bystander/victim of a drunken spill that way. I have lived in Cary my entire life and my husband and I employ over 45 people with our two businesses...we know everyone in this town and this is just bad business!

Wow! Has this place changed... I was blown away with not only the new decor but the food as well! I have eaten there probably 20 times since they have re-opened and I finally felt as if I had to help spread the word. After reading some of the old reviews on this very site I don't know how Sparks is perceived by others, but I love it and I tell friends and co-workers about the place on a daily basis. They have the absolute best babyback ribs I have ever eaten, when I can get away from the pulled pork or the "sluggers" (i don't know what they are, but they are pork and they are delicious), or let me add maybe the best burger I have ever eaten. You can get the burger on a Pretzel Roll... I am ruined, I can no longer eat a burger anywhere else, including home! My husband gets the Buffalo riblets, holy heaven, dusted and fried pork riblets tossed in wing sauce, Yumm! So if I didn't love the place enough, I now discover that they have the baseball tv package and I can see every single RedSox game ( they had a lot of Braves fans too). We generally eat in the dining room but usually go out to the bar for a drink before we go home, the clientel is very friendly and the service is good too. Please Sparks, don't change a thing you are the best!

I, being new to the area was not able to find a karaoke night for the longest time. We were at chilis and the waitress said "go to sparks its great!" So we packed up and went down there on a thursday night. We walked in and after the cursory look that EVERY bar clientele gives you we went out to the patio and not 30 sec later had drinks ordered. After reading all of the reviews i am shocked at some of the low ones. What bar doesnt have a couple altercations etc besides TGIFridays and wine bars? I like the fact that it seems to be a lot of locals that come regularly. When i lived in colorado we had a bar like this and it ROCKED. i still miss it. Hopefully sparks is back open from the fire they had soon. I really need my karaoke and beer fix! They make great mixed drinks too btw! If you dont know what you want or you want to deviate from the norm ask trish she knows her stuff!

If you dont know what you want or you want to deviate from the norm ask trish she knows her stuff!

Pros: has a great neighborhood feel and fun karaoke on thursdays parking is easy and they have a patio that is medium sized

Cons: bathrooms could use a little updating, it was closed recently but hopefully will reopen!

I put a lot of heart into that place before we sold it. The food was great and the staff was friendly. We were busy all of the time and we made our guests feel at home. Its too bad my 2+ years of love and sweat means nothing as the new owner has turned it into a dive... C'mon people of Apex....DEMAND MORE! I now live in Manhattan, but you were all my friends and family once. YOU DESERVE BETTER!!! and by the way, those are my wing recipes ;)....

My husband is from Buffalo, and we've finally found a wing place in town we both love! The classic buffalo sauce was just a tinge spicy, perfect for someone like me who doesn't like spicy food. The server was attentive, checking on us several times during the meal, and brought me a glass of water right before I finished my beer - read my mind! The nacho appetizer was very large, but wasn't warm; probably wouldn't order that again. But we'll definitely be back for the wings!!

Best bartenders, servers and patrons. The staff is very friendly and the service is very fast. Ashley is especially wonderful and is always working hard. Food is good - you'd be surprised how good the salads can be in a local sports bar. :)

As a family we've been to Sparks 4-5 times. It was much better a year or so ago before the menu (or management?) changed. Food is not really that good now, but the staple bar food is ok. For a drinking place, I'd rather go elsewhere too. I've been by myself and with friends. It's ok when you go with others and sit in the back, but it feels awkward at the bar like you've entered someone's home unexpectedly. Like someone else said, you get the feeling the "regulars" don't want you there or you better talk and act like they do. Very weird atmosphere. Apex Police seem to make regular visits or hang around the general area too. Not a good feeling, especially if you want a few drinks without hassle. Might be worth a try again in the future, but I won't return anytime soon.

The staff here made me feel at home. I had just returned from the Army and they welcomed me with open arms. The atmosphere was amazing and the wait staff was very attentive. Coming home is a difficult transition for any soldier, but they made it easy. I can honestly say the second time I got back to the states my first stop was here. Believe it or not they all remembered me and my name. It is the definition of a local "Cheers" where there is great food and service at a reasonable price. I highly recommend this little jewel of Apex.

This place has horrible food and horrible clientele. My wife and I tried to watch a game here and like the previous review had said hostile townies try to run the bar and will try to be rude to you if you are not a white trash townie. Left at Halftime DO NOT GO HERE.
By the way the food is just a disgrace...

recently moved to apex and wanted to find a friendly "non chain" restaurant/bar. somone told me to check out sparks...and so i did. i have to tell you, i have been all around the us and that was one of the best burgers ive ever had. and you can have it cooked to your likeness! wow! you dont find that very often! i sat at the bar all alone and the bartender acted as if she had known me forever! she really made me feel right at home. she informed me it was wing night, (apparently that is a tues. night special) and when i told her i didnt do chicken, trish, the bartender, recomended the burger. outstanding recomendation! and wash it down with a few cold draft miller lights...even better! i feel i will soon be a "regular" to the sparks sports bar and grill!

Hello sportsfans! Let me tell you about a little sports bar i just fell in love with!!! Sparks! They have some of the best darn wings on the east coast!!! Personallly, I like them HOTTTT! And thats just what I got. The service was awesome and so was the food! There were two very attractive bartenders who were very friendly and attentive. My class never went dry! And they didnt know me from Adam! I've got to be honest with you, I read some of the horrible reviews and was a little reluctant, but I decided what the heck! And I'm glad I did! I will, without a doubt, be back!

We walked in, there was hardly anyone there, should have been a warning....anyway, it took the ditzy blonde what seemed like forever to greet us and take our order. We got our food pretty fast, but then again, there was no one else there - but the dumb, blonde got the order wrong. Isn't that an oxymoron, dumb blonde?

We ordered potato skins, pretty safe order, right? The cheese was dripping off each potato skin and each skin was covered in grease! When we reminded her we asked for bacon, she said, "Oh sh*t, I forgot". Thankfully we went during a time where the appetizers were half price. We drank our beers, paid our tab and left. Needless to say we will not be going back. What a waste of time and money! Do yourself a favor and keep driving!

We were a little hesitant when we walked into this smokey, empty bar...especially when we saw the "seat yourself" sign, but we wanted to give the place a chance. We walked into the dining room where a large group of people were playing poker. We stood there confused for what seemed like an eternity before one of the girls at the table (maybe the hostess???) directed us to pick any table we wanted. Picking our table wasn't an easy task considering 3 of them already had people sitting there and almost all of the others hadn't been cleaned from the previous diners. We wearily chose a table in the corner near the window, wondering if anyone would even notice us sitting there. We sat at that table for close to 15 minutes without so much as a greeting or "we'll be right with you" even though BOTH of the waitress serving the other tables looked right at us several times. The place wasn't even busy, so I'd hate to see the service on a busy night. Since we were never served and eventually just decided to leave, I can't comment on the food but if it's anything like the service then I would suggest trying somewhere else.

When a restaurant has a sign saying SEAT YOURSERLF they should periodically see if customers have actually sat down. I toughed it out for 10 minutes before sending my son to find the wait staff. Wait we did! In fact we watched other potential customers walk in, then walk out because of the inattentiveness of the staff. We should have been right behind them!! After waiting an inordinate amount of time to get our order - my plate came cold. My sons was hot. I tried to attract someone to take care of this. Finally it was promised to be resolved only to disappear into the kitchen. I had to walk in there to tell them to put it into a to-go box as my son was long finished his meal and they seemed to have forgotten that they did not bring it back. The same happened with our soda - took the glasses for refills and never brought them back. The guys swilling beer at the next table were given tremendous service. Three waitresses stopped be frequently to see how things were going only to ignore my "excuse me's" and waving arms.
Never - ever again. I will recommend that all skip by this one.

I wish I would have read the reviews before going to this trashy bar. I took my father, visiting from out of town, there to watch the NFL playoffs and was so embarrassed for him to see and hear the filthy, ignorant individuals that hang out at this bar. There is a group (8 - 10) of men, aging 40 - 60 years old, that hang out at this bar and pretend they are 16 again. They verbally harrassed every female that entered the place, even women that were obvisously with their husband's. I guess they felt invincible in numbers. Unfortunately I was sitting closely to this group, who took up most of the bar space, and from over hearing their conversations - these are shady individuals that are looking for trouble. The owner/manager appeared to be friends with half of this group. I guess they keep him in business because they made sure people knew this was their bar and they go there every night. One guy even got upset that someone was sitting at the bar in his "regular seat". The police needs to patrol this establishment more, I'm sure they could pick up few outstanding warrants. If the owner does not get control of his restaurant - Sparks is doomed!

Nothing special about the food, except it is expensive for bar food. I'm from a small town and visited many of the typical "hole in the wall" establishments, but this takes the cake. Most hostile restaurant that I have ever entered. My father and I left and finished the games down Hwy 64 at MacGregor's Ale House - A Sports Bar with some Class. Be prepared to defend yourself if you go to Sparks

Pros: One centalized spot for all the rift raft in Apex and keeps them out of the good establishments

Cons: Many fights, very smoky, expensive bar food, nice TV's, but mounted at bad angles for viewing

At first I thought this bar was a decent place to sit and watch a ballgame with a sandwich and a beer. But there is a constant parade of rude and argumentative customers and fights/confrontations that seem to occur every time I stop by which is maybe once every 2 weeks. The bartenders are slow and non-professional and the beer selection is pretty slim. The food and cocktails are extremely overpriced and not exactly high quality. The wait staff is good. It seems they are playing poker some nights for cash prizes - which I thought was illegal and the smell of cigarette smoke is overwhelming on those nights. One cannot play a set of personally selected songs on the overpriced jukebox without some of the songs being skipped or interrupted by other customers or by the whim of the bartender. I have sat beside a customer who had words with another group of customers who then proceeded to pound him right at the bar. The really odd thing was that right after this assault the bullies who did this were welcomed back instead of banned. Stay away from this place - stay very far away.

I think they should change their name from Sparks to The Good Ol Boys Club. While having dinner with my two daughters, I watched the owner of Sparks (who was drinking alcohol at the bar) and a customer at the bar get into a very disturbing verbal confrontation over a football. The language that was being used between both individuals was embarrashing for me to hear, not to mention my two daughters. I was amazed to see a known owner of an establishment leave his seat in a rage and approach the argumentative customer, only to be held back by other customers. The bar bouncers or owners friends that were sitting by him at bar, exited the customer outdoors. When they returned, they joked loudly about doing "a number" on the customer.

If you're looking to have a couple of drinks and good food after work, I can recommend Sparks. The staff are great and fun, and know their stuff when it comes to recommending food and drinks. When a game is on the place can get really excited, especially on weekends. You don't need to go to Raleigh or Cary to find 'atmosphere' , it's right here in Apex.

I had a great experience @ Sparks. Sparks has a good local Bar feel and a great wait staff, I had a waitress by the name of Sara. Sara is hands down the Best, she always made sure that I had a beer and not to mention that she is gorgeous. Definitely recommend to anyone.

I have been a happy entertainment book user for over two years now. This is the first time a restaurant or store has ever refused my entertainment book coupon. I will never go to Sparks to eat and would never recommend sparks to anyone I know. Don't waste your time, service is rude, prices are outrageous and restaurant uses coupons to attract new people but don't honor them

Sparks is a great place to drop in for a quick bite most anytime, or, if you're like me, on Tuesdays, for 25 cent wing day. Multiple different flavors available from their hottest (Knock Your Block Off) to some other flavors such as Teryaki, Miami Madness (soy sauce base with Pepper) or Classic Buffalo. Of dozens of visits, I can say I've never had a bad meal and the service is always great.

PROS: Excellent taste and preparation. Friendly staff
CONS: Sometimes service is a little slow, but always reliable.

I was kind of turned off to Sparks for awhile not because of the food but because of the service. There is a new owner now and I think things are much better. This is a great place to just sit and eat or go over to the bar and party. We always go on Thursday nights when there is Karaoke (starts at 9:30). It is so fun!

Sparks is Apex's answer to Cheers. They are friendly and have great food and drink specials daily. There is always entertainment with Free Texas Holdem Poker Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights, Karoake Thursday nights, Dart Tournaments Tuesday nights, and music every Friday night. Come with the family for dinner or with your friends for drinks in the evening. Best wings and burgers in the triangle!!

This past weekend we visited Sparks and had the best meal ever! I ordered the special, scallops in a lite wine garlic sauce over pasta with mixed vegs, my husband had the new steak sandwich (melted in his mouth) and my daughter had wings and pizza. Each and every item was prepared to perfection. The staff was friendly and very attentive. My daughter also enjoyed the magic from the Sparks magician, Happy Dan. We will continue to keep Sparks top on our list!

I just wanted to say thank you to the manager and crew over at Sparks for making my son's birthday a great one! We had a party of 14 people and we did not have reservations so there was a wait, but it was worth it. The manager sat us and he made sure we had everything we needed. The serverice was fantastic and the food was great! Thanks again Sparks!

A friend of mine and I recently stopped in for a burger and some Buffalo wings. The hostess was quite friendly.

I ordered a burger and my amigo ordered Buffalo wings. The food seemed to take forever (45 minutes) to prepare despite the fact that there were few customers that evening. When I asked what the hold up was, the waitress rudely replied "soon, we have other customers too, you know".

The wings were under-cooked and my food was cold. The waitress never made an apology for the poor service. The manager didn't seem to care about how we were treated or how the orders where screwed up. He had this "take it or leave it" attitude.

I agree with an earlier post, which said good customer service merits return business. This place certainly won't be getting my return business anytime soon.

My wife and I have been to this restaurant before, and I must say that the service was great. However, this time was much different. I ordered the pork chop, and my wife ordered wings. When our order came out, the pork chop was cooked perfectly, but the buffalo wings were cold! We declined to have the wings sent back, but did not receive an apology from the waiter, or even the manager, who did not come out. Furthermore, our drinks were not refilled promptly. To win my return business, one must have the best possible customer service, and this was not it.

Sparks is a great place for anyone. The saff is great and the food is better than the average chain restaurant grub. I did have an overcooked burger once, but I still go back because the staff is the friendliest around and the food is great! I recommend it to anyone.
