I absolutly love Valley Forge OB/GYN while hands down Dr. Cadieux is my all time favorite and the reason i started going there segal shirker and cantranella are also very good doctors and i would recomend them to anyone. they always answered all my questions and really took time with me. I have to say to the people that are saying rude things about Dr. Brown i think you're completly wrong about her. when i was 31 weeks pregnant i started having contractions (due to dehydration) when i called she called me back right away and when i didnt call back within the time she told me to she called me again to see if they had stopped. She even WENT OUT OF HER WAY and called me the next morning to see how i was feeling and to check up on me. i havent had an appointment with her yet but she really wowed me on how much she cared.
I am surprised by some of the reviews. I have had three children with VF OBGYN. I have also been going there for 15 years and recently had a D&E and Tubal. I have had no issues with any of the doctors that I have seen. My second child was delivered by Longacre who is not with the practice any longer. 10 years later, Silverberg delivered my son. He was great, although he missed the mark on how big my son was going to be by over a pound. Cohen delivered my fourth child and he was really great. My delivery was very quick and he handled it very well. Dr. Cohen also did the Tubal and D&E for me. Both my husband and I like him and are very comfortable with him. We trust him. I really have not seen any doctor that was disrespctful or rude. The one doctor years ago that I had a problem with because he was rough has since retired.
I think that you have to understand that you can't like everybody. Different personalities will not always mesh. I guess you have to just stick with the doctors that make you comfortable and take the others witha grain of salt.
Dr. Brown's position at Valley Forge OBGYN needs to be evaluated. If she would actually open up her ignorant mind and eyes before her mouth she would possibly pass as semi human.
It is a shame that one minute is just too much for her to listen and look at all the facts. God forbid we actually look at a patients medical history before passing judgement when one should first look in the mirror. Shame on you Dr. Brown. You are a pathetic excuse for a doctor and person. First do no harm.....Really? That oath was totally ignored.
Dr. Shirker delivered my first child and was fantastic. She was pleasant and professional during office visits and I was thrilled that she was on call when my baby was born. I liked most of the doctors in the practice. I was induced and Dr. Cohen started the process. He was extremely nice and helpful. Both he and Dr. Silverberg were excellent during office visits and Dr. Silverberg in particular was very pleasant to deal with. Dr. Cadieux was also fantastic and I originally hoped she would deliver my baby but was just as happy in the end with Dr. Shirker (and Dr. Cohen).
The only physician that I have absolutely nothing good to say anything about is Dr. Brown. She ALWAYS made me wait and her bedside manner was horrendous. I had gestational diabetes and when I asked her questions about it she was short with me and not helpful at all. Her attitude was extremely unprofessional. In fact, I was having steady contractions 2 days before I was induced. It was a weekend and I called the on-call physician who happened to be Dr. Brown. She insisted that I just had an "upset tummy" and told me to take Tums. Trust me, it was not an upset tummy. I was in pain. Since I had never been through labor before I listened to her but, after experiencing contractions when I was induced, I now know that I was in fact having some major contractions. Fortunately the contractions stopped because otherwise Dr. Brown would have delivered my baby and there is NO WAY I would have been happy with that. She is aweful and is the only reason I would consider leaving this practice.
I am very surprised by the negative Dr. Cohen comments. Yes, while pregnant with my daughter, he was very quick and to the point with the check-ups, but it didn't bother me. I would always bring my questions written down and he had no problem answering them. I never took him for rude.
I thought Dr. Sigal and Dr. Shirker were friendly enough. Dr. Silverburg was always personable. You can't help to smile when you are around him.
Dr. Cadieux is my absolute favorite. You cannot find a better ob/gyn doctor. She is very knowledgeable. She never got annoyed by my long lists of questions. She never rushed me along. You honestly feel like she's your friend! There is no wonder why there is a waiting list to see her! I schedule my annual a year in advance for this reason!
Now Dr. Brown.... I don't have one nice word to say about her. She always kept me waiting. She was rude and honestly, not the most, ahem, skilled doctor that I've met. One time, she was in the room with me and left me to chat with her husband on the phone! I kid you not AND I was getting over pneumonia while 30 weeks pregnant on top of it! I'm not going into detail about some of the things she said to me, but she had me in tears on visit. In fact, I called to find out who the on-call doctor was before I went to the hospital when I was in labor with my daughter. If she were to be the doctor delivering my child, I had planned to go to Chester County Hospital via their ER room. I absolutely refused to have her deliver my child, I did not trust her capabilities and hated her bedside manner!
I don't know Dr. Cantella (sp?). She must be new to the practice. With exception to Dr. Brown, you are in capable hands with Valley Forge Ob/Gyn.
I have been going to this practice for 4 years and have had one child delivered by Dr. Segal, and am pregnant with baby number 2. I absolutely LOVE Dr. Segal, she was great during the delivery and is friendly and professional. I also enjoy Dr. Brown all though i have yet to see her for baby #2. Dr. Silverberg is funny and you can just tell that he loves his job! He gets so excited when he hears that little heart beat and i can only wish to see him walk into that delivery room.
I delivered my second and third child with Valley Forge ob/gyn. With my first daughter, my favorite doctor was Dr. Cadieux. I had no problem with any of them, though. It just happened that I had only seen Dr. Brown, Dr. Sigal and Dr. Shirker a few times, so I didn't know much about them. Dr. Cohen ended up delivering my daughter. My delivery went very well. He was friendly and funny. With my last daughter, Dr. Shirker seemed like the only person that understood how it felt to be a week overdue with your third child. I scheduled an induction with her at my 41 week check-up, but ended up going into labor the next morning. Dr. Sigal delivered my daughter. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Sigal.
I did attend my sister in law's birth when I was 30 weeks pregnant with my last daughter, and Dr. Cohen was there for most of her labor.. I don't really want to get into it but if you're a difficult patient in any way, he's probably not the best person to see. Thank God Dr. Cantarella came last minute to deliver my neice. She was wonderful. Like I said, I did have a great birth with Dr. Cohen... but I know at least a handful of people who have not.
Transferred to this practice after moving from the Philly area where previously went to Abington Ob/Gyn. Not very impressed at first. Did not like the woman whom you meet with the first time- very crass and rough. Sped me through my appointment. She was not very friendly and warm. Through my pregnancy I met with all the doctor's and had good experiences. I saw Dr. Cantarella the most and found her warm and caring. She listened to my concerns and offered advice and empathy. She has a son close to the age of my first and she was very relatable. My delivery was performed by Dr. Cantarella and she was GREAT!!!! She spent lots of time in the delivery room with us before the delivery and she was very supportive. We spoke about her family and other things while we waited to push. My husband was very impressed. My only problem was with Dr. Cohen who visited me on the day I left the hospital. I have been on a prescribed anti-depressant for many years and stopped taking it during this pregnancy. Dr. Cantarella and I had already discussed that I would take this medication after giving birth and she would give me a prescription. Dr. Cohen argued with me and told me I didn't need it- which, knowing myself and getting feedback from my therapist, I know this is not true. After being stubborn about giving it to me he finally relented and wrote me the prescription- for one month and no refills, which meant I had to call the office and explain the situation and get a refill before my 6 week appt. When I called I spoke to the office manager about my experience and she was very supportive, apologetic and friendly. When I saw Dr. Cantarella at my 6 week follow up she apologized and said that sometime the male physicians can be stubborn. It is fine to be stubborn, but in Dr. Cohen 's case I don't think he was acting in the interest of his patient. I will not see Dr. Cohen again for an appt. but will definately return to Dr. Cantarella. The office staff is also very friendly and helpful!! Great practice with the exception of Dr. Cohen.
I met with Dr. Cohen for a check up and am terrified to know that he may be delivering my child! I had questions (being a 1st time mother) and he couldn't get me out the door fast enough.
Yes he is fast and to the point, so if you want a Dr. that makes you feel like he cares...don't go to him!
I just pray I get Dr. Cadieux, great bed side manor, nice, knowledgeable, and makes you feel like you are the most important mother to be!
Have had no problems with care did not deliver yet so i guess ill have to write another review after i do. Dr. Cadieux and Cohen are the main doctors I've seen.Cadiuex is very friendly and warm and she will make you feel very comfortable. Cohen is quick and to the point but is also thorough and friendly, he always wears a smile. I have only had a problem with one doctor in the whole practice, Dr. Canterella (sp?) I am a younger mom and she was very rude and unprofessional. she said I was too young to have two children and made constant little remarks in the two visits I had with her. She was disrespectful and I just hope she is not the dr. on call the night I deliver. Otherwise I would recommend this practice to any one, it is very clean, professional and very nice, just stay clear of that one dr. and you should be fine.
WONDERING...Has anyone had a hysterectomy with any of these Dr's? I used to go to the for routing checks and prenatal from age 17-38 and loved them. Dr. Silverburg always made me laugh and calmed my anxious nerves! I have since moved out of state, and found out I need a hysterectomy and I am scared to death! I am not familiar with any doctors down here (NC) and am considering coming to Phoenixville for the surgery. Please let me know any good/bad with hysterectomy from any of these Dr's Thanks!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE VF OB/GYN!!!
All 3 of my kids were delivered by c-sections--Shirker and Cadieux. Fabulous-the whole practice! Cohen's not my favorite, but I trust him.
I just had an annual yesterday with Shirker and I love that she answers all my questions and is honest and patient. Cadieux is the same way. I've seen all of the dr's in the practice (except the 2 newest) and I would recommend them all.
Silverberg made my husband so comfortable and really got both of us so excited about our first pregnancy and first look (via ultrasound) at our oldest son. He even called me at home a month after my 3rd c-section to see how I was doing. (I had a minor complication before leaving the hospital---I used one of the hospital wet ones on my face one evening to feel refreshed---it was much easier than trying to stand up and wash my face in the restroom---anyway, my face swelled up and I looked like a monster. Needless to say, we didn't take any pictures of me with my baby for a few days. It was a freak thing---I've never been allergic to anything before and I used those wipes with my other two babies. I won't do that again, though.)
All that to say that I can't sat enough good things about the practice. I would recommend Limerick offices over P-ville. Everything is much nicer and even Carol (the receptionist) is so much greater than all of the ladies in P-ville.
Not so thrilled with Yeager, the Nurse Practitioner. I would avoid her if you can----she's not always so personal/patient/sensitive and informative.
I've had 3 of the doctors during my visits, Dr Shirker, Cohen, and Dr. Silverberg did my C-Section. I was so happy with all of them. I work in Customer Service in the surrounding area and always spread the word of how wonderful they all are. I'd recommend them to anyone. The whole staff there is amazing.
Please do not let the negative reviews about Dr Cohen stop you from seeing him. You need to make the judgement on your own. I read some of the reviews and I can disagree with the ones I read. Dr Cohen is a great doctor! Yes his appointments may seem quick but he's straight forward, he doesn't beat around the bush. He's very kind and wants the best for you. My husband and I had a horrible experience with another practice with our first child and he was very welcoming when we started going there for our second child. He knew all there was to know and made sure everything went as it should have the first time. This goes to show everyone has their own opinion and you shouldn't make your decision based on others. You need to make the decision on your own.
I delivered my son with VF-OBGYN and the experience was terrific! I saw every single doctor during my checkups and liked every one. Sure, some were a litle more personable than others, but all were professional and kind.
I was in labor for 2 days and went through 3 different doctor shifts! Dr. Silverberg was the one who delivered my son and he was terrific - positve, encouraging and funny! (not that I was in the mood for jokes really - but it helped my husband relax a little)
I personally, liked Dr. Cohen when I saw him, and did not have the experience that others had (from other posts). He does keep his visits a little short and to the point, but I still always felt he was friendly and professional. Please don't let the negative reviews about him discourage you from going with this practice.
I delivered both of my children at Phoenixville Hospital with Valley Forge OB/GYN and I highly recommend them. My main dr, Dr. Cadieux delivered my daughter in 2004 and it was amazing - like having a sister there with me. She is so caring and personable, yet so professional and capable.
I delivered my son last summer with Dr. Silverberg and that was also a terrific experience. I never had an appt. with Dr. Silverberg throughout my 2nd pregnancy, but he was so great during a very long labor and I was so impressed with him. He made me laugh, kept us calm and was very caring. All the doctors at this practice are wonderful. Highly recommended!
(I have to admit that I have only met Dr. Cohen once ...for a quick belly check and he seemed ok, so I have nothing to go on).
Valley Forge Ob/Gyn delivered all three of my children, and we're all three wonderful experiences. My first was a c-section with Drs. Cadieux and Shirker. My son was breech and they both tried to turn him, but that failed.
My next child was a VBAC, strongly encouraged and supported by all of the physicians, with Dr. Silverberg. He was a pleasure to deliver with.
My third child was with Dr. Cadieux. She is hands-down, the best. During my prenatal care we both talked about having her deliver this child since she was at the birth of my first. And I was thrilled that I went into labor during her weekend on call and she was able to attend my second VBAC. She has a special place in my heart.
I'm not crazy about the nurse practitioner you meet on your first visit, but it's the only time you have to deal with her.
I switched from my midwife who delivered my first two babies to Valley Forge ObGyn & it was a huge mistake.
The intake nurse was horrendous, spewing false information left & right, even told me that I was endangering my unborn baby by continuing to nurse my toddler.
There were a few female OBs there that I liked, Dr. Cadieux, Dr. Sigal & Dr. Shirker were all lovely but wouldn't you know, the night I went into labor, Dr. Fred Cohen was on call. He was a first class jerk. Once at the hospital, he clearly just wanted to get back to his cozy bed. I told him my wishes & he blatantly ignored them all. Who wants to argue with a doctor while they're giving birth?
They don't call him "Fast Freddie" for nothin'.
If you're just going for Gyn care, you can avoid Dr. Cohen, but if you plan on giving birth with these people, don't take your chances.
I've run into more people in my town who have said the same thing than I can count on two hands.
I generally was very happy with this office with the exception of Dr. Cohen. He has a terribly cocky bedside manner and I feel that with the regular checkups he cut corners to save time. He definitely did not give me the same attention as the other docs and did not take my concerns seriously.
Every other doctor is fabulous at this practice. If you just avoid getting an appointment with him, everything was great. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do if he is the doc in the hospital when you go in labor, which is what happened to me. Have a birth plan be verbal about it.
Cohen, never called my pregnant wife back after making a call to the service for the on- call doctor. We later found out that Cohen was the Doc on-call that Sunday. We waited a half hour at our house before looking on-line for the symptoms my wife was having and decided to head for the ER. From the time we placed our call to the office (Cohen) until we turned off the cell phone when entering the ER (1 hour), Cohen had never called. Long story short Cohen showed up after 4 hours and 15 minutes went by after our original call. When Cohen arrived I approached him in the hallway and asked why he never called us back...he replied he did and there would be a VM on our cell. When we checked our VM after leaving the hospital there was NO voicemail and NO missed calls. Following the statement that he left a VM Cohen proceeded to go into the room where my wife was and rather than ask how she was feeling, he continued in a louder than normal voice and challenged my wife about the cell number. He acted very disrespectfully to her the PATIENT and followed completing his exam by throwing us out of his OBGYN practice basically because I asked a simple question and Cohen jumped on the defence (very mature). When I said I was going to go to the CEO of the hospital, in a very tempered voice he stated "I am the CEO" (again, very mature). This so called MD (Cohen) is very un-professional and very self-centered. Needless to say I would not recommend Cohen if your life depended on it
If you want a Good Doctor and Friendly staff go see Valley Forge Ob Gyn Associates.
I can not say how wonderful "ALL" the doctors are and the stall is wonderful and very caring.
I have had both of my children with this practice and they could not be better! Dr. Cohen & Dr. Thornhill are awsome!!!
PROS: Great Doctors and Wonderful Staff! Very caring towards your needs!
