Dr Leong recommended a hysterectomy because of some minor pain due to fibroids. This seemed really major for a minor problem. I told her I was going to get a few more opinions and think about. Her response was "what are you going to do about the pain, just bite the bullet?" (!!???). I saw three other doctors and all told me that surgery was absolutely unnecessary. In the meantime Dr Leong's office called me SIX times asking when I wanted to schedule the surgery. I told them I was getting more opinions and would let them know. I was told by the person calling, " If you want to do this, you have to decide RIGHT NOW!". Ummm no. I told her to stop calling and hung up on her. They still called me a few more times. Pushy pushy pushy- and why? No one should be bullied into unnecessary surgery. If you do see this doctor, please please please get a second or third opinion before agreeing to a surgery.

I have been seeing Dr Allison Leong for over 20 years and I strongly recommend her. She is very professional, smart, sensitive and extremely thorough, but not an alarmist. With every visit, I am seen within 15 minutes of my scheduled time. She runs a tight ship, expecting excellence of all those around her. I have total confidence in Dr Leong.

I was looking for a topnotch gynecologist in Santa Monica and was referred to this office by my old gynecologist in BH. She only knew the name of the firm, but not the MD names specifically.

I called the office and spoke to Lupe and asked if she could give me their names, background info, rates, and if they take insurance. She said she was too busy to talk to me, kept putting me on hold, and when I said i looked for a website but couldn't find anything online, she said they don't have one.

I asked her to call me back at a more convenient time, and she never bothered to, even after 3 days.

I called back today and got the same person. She finally gave me the list of MD names, kept putting me on hold, and refused to tell me anything about their education or their specialties. She literally said "NO, I will not tell you." and put me off even more and rudely said online and look them up individually.

I found this site while i was on hold, and lo and behold, read comments that this particular MD almost killed people!

When I told the woman that i had just gone online, and that I was surprised to be finding these comments, she cut me off, and said that I SHOULD NOT COME In, that they DO NOT WANT me to come in, and that this office is not for me! And she hung up on me!

Am grateful I found this site in time, and that I got to see the red flags in action before making an appointment.

If the doctors have someone like her as the gatekeeper, I hate to think how well they run their practice, or if they are capable of handling more serious issues.

I am running in the opposite direction!

I am a big fan of Dr. Leong. She has been the gynocologist I've always wanted. She's patient and understanding, and gets right to the point. I'd rather get the experience over with, anyway.

The only annoyance about the doctor's visit is the hours you are able to call and check on blood work, make an appointment, etc. They should be open to receiving phone calls 8 hours during the work day, and not take a two hour lunch break.

Other than that, I'm glad she's my doctor!

I've recently begin seeing Dr. Leong when I began having severe cramping and terrible bleeding. We decided that a laparscpoy. hystoscopy, and a D&C were necessary. I read these reviews here, but still felt safe with her. People need to understand that every surgery has risks. The risks were clearly outlined to me. I know there were risks to my bladder and bowels. A day after surgery and I am so glad I went with her. The surgery went very well and they were able to removes ovarian growths and the endo. I ask that people look at these other review objectively. Im sorry anyone who had a negative experience but the fact is that those are the risks and those things do sometimes happen no matter how good a surgeon. If you follow the rules for pre-surgery correctly, your chances of these type of things happening are much more slim.

Basically, I had a great experience. Dr. Leong has been caring, professional, and so kind. I am very glad I found her!

My experience with Dr. Leong was good. Dr. Leong was listed as the surgical assistant for a pelviscopy I had this month. So I looked her up online and found this site, which gave me reservations... I talked to my doctor about them and she said that she's worked with Dr. Leong for 17 years and she hasn't heard of any problems. She also said that Dr. Leong was her number one choice for an assistant and is the best around. She also lamented that people can say anything they want online anonymously. I cannot speak to the other reviews here, but I trust my doctor. That was good enough for me. Obviously my surgery went well. It's been less than three weeks and I've been back to "life as usual" for over a week.

Dr Leong was my doctor for over five years. Initially she was great...spent a lot of time asking questions and educating me on various issues...she seemed to truly care. Over time, something happened and she was less patient and less caring. She was annoyed with me once when I called and requested that I speak to her not the nurse. When I went to see her for my heavy periods, I trusted her when she said that it was normal and some people have heavy periods. I spent two years with very heavy periods until I decided to see another doctor who diagnosed me with uterine fibroids. I have since switched doctors and now realize the care I received from her was lacking. It's unfortunate because I initially liked Dr Leong and thought she was a great doctor....

In 2002 I was diagnosed with endometriosis, and had surgery. During surgery I could hear those in the operating room saying we are losing her, and I could see them frantically trying to save me when I had an out of my body experience. Fortunately I came back, when I was recovering they were dosing me with SO MUCH morphine. Then the doctor came to see me and admitted that they almost lost me because she punctured my Uterus and I was bleeding intensely. I could of and should of done something, but I was happy to be alive. I do not go to her office anymore.

I've been going to Dr. Allison Leong for three years and she's been terrific. She answers all my questions, refers me to other specialists, and makes sure I'm clean as a whistle.

Perhaps time and maturity have improved Allison Leong. When I went to her for treatment of endometriosis in the 1980's, she performed a laproscopy and accidentally punctured my bladder during the procedure. She did not realize she had done this, but it was evident to both me and my husband that something was terribly wrong when my stomach became grotesquely distended, I couldn't void, and I couldn't stand without doubling over in pain. It took a couple of days before Leong or her partner took phoned-in complaints seriously. When her partner saw me, she immediately had me admitted to the hospital, where surgeons advised my husband that he should prepare for my death. It took a while before a competent physician discovered the problem and repaired it. Faced with the evidence of her mistake, Leong refused to take any responsibility. She never so much as apologized. In fact, it took her a few days to even come to the hospital. She was terrified of admitting her error. People do make mistakes, but competent and compassionate professionals admit those mistakes and work to ease the patient and family. They do not hide from the truth. I would never recommend Leong to any woman, thus the minimal-star rating. (It would have been zero stars, but the program won't allow that!)

Dr. Leong has been the only gynecologist not rushing me out the door. She takes time to answer questions and give advice. I have suffered with endomitriosis for the past 5 years. Dr, Leong has been very helpful and immediately returns my phonecalls if I have questions.

My girlfriend went to see Dr. Leong because of pains she had been having for a long time which seemed to have been aggravated when she started taking the pill prescribed for her in Europe, which also seemed to cause excessive irregular bleeding. Because they were on the list of Blue Cross preferred providers, she thought she would have no problems. Dr. Leong basically blew off her pains and bleeding as something not worth worrying about. My girlfriend then tried to ask about IUDs as an alternative birth control, (although not by name, she speaks English very well, but some terms she still doesn't know, so she asked about that thing that did not have to be removed), and Dr. Leong told her that she wanted a diaphragm, and started fitting her for one, then after she had inserted and removed it, started explaining it to her as something that needs to be removed right away after use. She said, no she didn't want that, she wanted to know about those things that don't need to be removed, and Dr. Leong then told her that such a thing doesn't exist!! Then, weeks later, she gets a bill for $325 mostly for unspecified "routine preventive care" that is not covered by Blue Cross. When she called about the bill, they said "Oh, that's just the standard first time visit charge", which no one had ever mentioned to her!

After seeing many horrible Gynecologysts I found Dr Leong.... and what a change!!! She takes the time to ask ans answer questions and she really shows she cares about my heatlh and medical history when I saw her.
She actually scheduled me to have a consultation session, just to ask prenatal questions.... I feel very safe with her.

For women, the annual gynecological check-up can often be the medical visit that we most dread. However, as a patient of Dr. Alison Leong at the Women's Medical Group of Santa Monica, many of my anxieties are allayed by the patient and assuring care of Dr. Leong. Without rushing her patients to "drop trow," Dr. Leong tries to get a a good health assessment of her patients, allowing plenty of time for patients to ask questions or voice concerns.
