I do not recommend this practice if you are actively involved in managing diabetes. My blood glucose numbers were escalating and my weight wasn't budging though I was following a low calorie, carbohydrate-controlled eating plan. Their 'educator' doesn't listen. Dr. Becker doesn't listen to concerns. I left after he told me I had to eat 1000 calories per day if I really wanted to lose weight. No, thanks! I want to be healthy!

I no longer use this practice due to his indifference and inability to listen. At the practice I do go to now, they discovered I am not a T2D, but a T1.5ADA. I'm finally receiving the appropriate treatment from a doctor and staff who care about their patients. This would not have been discovered at Raleigh Endocrine because they do not listen!

AWFUL in every way. Dr. Becker is a disgrace to his profession. As a thyroid cancer survivor keeping my TSH at undetectable levels is CRITICAL to keep my cancer from coming back. Over the first 2 years after my surgery and radiation I was put on a specific dose of synthroid daily with great success. Every checkup, all my bloodwork, every test during that time showed that was the appropriate dose with no side effects and no ill effects. Despite that Dr. Becker continued to pressure me to lower my dose. After being criticized for not listening to him and tremendous pressure from him, I relented, against my better judgement because from my perspective, if something is working as planned, why mess with it. Within 4 months my TSH multiplied 50 times to extremely dangerous levels for a cancer survivor!!!!!! When I questioned his motives for forcing this issue he told me I was over reacting and that a patient should never question his doctor!! I fired him on the spot and left for another practice where they concurred that what he did was criminal and should have NEVER happened. Since that time I found this website: http://projects.propublica.org/docdollars/ It shows that Dr. Becker has taken $243,191 from drug companies between 2009 - 2011 for "speaking engagements". Now I know what motivates Dr. Becker and who dictates the way he practices....THE DRUG COMPANIES!!!! Run, don't walk away from this practice!!!! Dr. Becker is a disgrace to medicine and should be stripped of his medical license!!!!!

Once I get the results from my latest test I do not intend to step foot inside this office again. My 1st appt was 2 hours late and while sitting in the exam room I overheard the Dr and his nurses discussing birthday cakes and what type of hair coloring he used. The lab employees were very friendly and efficient but Dr Berlins nurses are a joke. I had to leave 4 msgs the last being irrate to get a call back with my test results, I waited a total of 22 days for a cb. I had a question about another test they wanted to do and was told by the nurse she would talk with the Dr and cb. 8 days later I called the office mgr. When the nurse called back she was very rude and acted like I was bothering her. They also called in the incorrect strength for my meds and when I pointed that out and asked that the correct one be called in the nurse was going to call in the wrong medicine all together. It has been 8 days since the last test and I still do not have those results. If these nurses were one of my employees they would be fired!!! I have been to other Drs and have never had to wait more than 3 days to get test results.

I recently drove two hours from where I live for my appointment with Dr. Stall. When I got there the staff members said I had no appointment. I showed them my actual appointment card. (you bet I had it) They recognized whoever wrote it as one of their staff members but were not willing to uphold the appointment. The only thing they offered was waiting 3 hours to when he had an opening or coming back the next day. They obviously did not grasp the concept that I had a scheduled appointment and should not have had to wait three hours or drive down there twice. I had to drive two hours back home without even seeing the doctor. I have since put in a transfer request to have my records and info sent to a different doctor's office (who knows if it will actually be accomplished....what transfer request?). I think Dr. Stall is a pretty good doctor and is the only reason I continued going there for so long (there were other problems in the past as well)...but now the business is so poorly staffed and run that it is not worth going to. Two thoughts have developed since leaving: 1. I wonder if having the appointment card that was hand written in by a representative of the office could constitute a written agreement... 2. How incompetent do you have to be to not be able to properly schedule an appointment- I was a doctor's office secretary in charge of all that stuff for two years in high school...while dual enrolled in college... Also-as I was being refused to be seen, the lady beside me was also being told she didn't have an appointment either (different dr.). All she kept saying was..."but you just called me to confirm it" and was told no as well but she could choose to get lab work done if she wanted... There's your sign!

I went for a 1st visit today and saw Dr. Becker. He could not have been more thorough and professional, as well as most cordial. His female assistant was fast and gracious. As for their
office staff, I do not know what they could have done to make it a more positive experience. Maybe things are better now than in the past, that I cannot say, but I can say everything about my visit was positive. Dianne Underwood

Raleigh Endocrine Associates is the most poorly run practice I have ever encountered. Each physician/provider works for her/him self. They do NOT cover each others patients when they go on vacation. And, if one of the providers leaves the practice for any reason, those patients are "lost" to followup by the others in the practice. This is very dangerous and I can't believe they have not been sued for this. Also, the administrator thinks nothing of terminating an employee in the middle of rooming patients and NOT telling that provider that she is going to do this.

I can't believe these reviews. When I was first reccomended here my MD told me this was the best practice, it took me 2 weeks to get put in the computer and then 2 months to get an appointment. I went that day and was told I was not on the schedule at all,I was furious. I made another appointment, Dr. Becker is my doctor and since then I have been very happy with everything, except recently I did wait 2 weeks for lab results. Dr. Becker listens, I feel he is very knowledgable and his nurse has always been great. I have seen offices that are extremly well run and the doctor is horrible and doesn't listen at all, this practice is by far not as bad as these reviews make it out to be. Because of these reviews I did almost go somewhere else while waiting to get in initially. I am glad I stuck it out. I have never seen anything filthy there and can't even imagine what some of you are talking about.

THE DOCTORS ARE GREAT!
The management needs some help!
I recommend maybe LISTENING to your employees and see where the problems are and some how WORK TOGETHER to fix them.
Dictating to your employees will not get performance or respect that you want. (TRUST ME)
Management and also the staff, not only, needs to work together, make patients feel that you care, they all need to dress the part of the position that they hold.
GOOD LUCK!

I have been seeing Dr. Gamblin for years and am so happy that he has relocated his practice. His staff is simply THE BEST. I'm not sure what problem the entry on 5/13 had, but Ellen always calls me back promptly. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend Dr. Gamblin.

Although I very much like my doctor, Dr. Weir, the practice is very poorly run. I started using them in February 2007. I supplied them with all my medical records I brought from California but within 6 months they had lost them. I have been promised prescriptions in the mail that never came, and calls that were never returned. The wait times are horrendous. The staff need some training on courtesy and organizing. I must say again that I really like Dr. Weir but I do not know why she works out of that office.

I always question why seemingly excellent doctors would allow their staff to be so surly and unprofessional with their patients until you look further and in more depth. Unfortunately, the staff at Raleigh Endocrine is only as good as the doctors that hire them. One also wonders how seemingly excellent doctors could allow their patients or their staff to be subjected to the filthy conditions that that practice has allowed to manifest beyond belief. Why NC health has not shut that place down has always amazed alot of us that are patients. Some of us have no choice but to continue to see the doctor we've chosen either out of necessity or because there is no other endocrinologist near to where we live. It is not uncommon to see roaches crawling across the floor. The deep smell of dirt and sweat emanates throughout the building. The walls are streaked black in sections where I imagine many hands have rested and no one has taken the trouble to scrub clean. Bottom line is this, dont be so quick to judge the staff but rather lets look beyond that to what is the real issues with this practice. Something needs to be done.

After being on eternal hold to make my appt., I found that I couldn't be seen for 3 mths, and not by the dr I requested. I did see Dr. Weir, she was great. I had a bone density, the tech was very nice and professional-The best part of my visit. The check in/out area was not very neat, and the staff had way too much going on, and not work related. I was ready to check out and the girl told me to hold on and she left. Well, I did too- Good luck if you go here.

After reading the other reviews, I must comment. Although I COMPLETELY agree with the lack of and unprofessional nature of Raleigh Endocrine, I must say that Dr. Gamblin is the absolute best. He knows his stuff and cares about his patients, he even called me at home to advise of my cancer diagnosis. On the other hand, I had hoped that once he left Raleigh endocrine that things would improve and although they have gotten better since he has become a private practice, his staff, mainly Ellen have stayed the same. She is not on her game and takes FOREVER to return calls, blood work results or not. If I didn't like Dr. Gamblin so much, I would've left long ago. With all of this being said, I would still recommend Dr. Gamblin and his new practice any day.

I had a noon appt and there was only one other patient in the waiting room when I arrived. The other patient was called within 10 minutes of my arrival, however, it took another hour of waiting, with no other patients in the waiting room until I was called back to see the doctor. I then waited another hour after going to the dr's room and finally after telling the nurse I was going to leave without seeing the dr, the dr finally came in --2 hours after my appt time. What a frustrating experience. I can only assume the dr was not even in the office at the time of my appt. I would not recommend this office. The staff is more interested in socializing than patient's satisfaction.

I've been seeing a doctor at Raleigh Endocrine for over 10 years, but only because the doctor was so good.

The front desk has been occasionally pleasant but recent calls have been frustrating at best. No return calls. No activity on promises made. Lost 8 YEARS of my medical records, and still can't locate 2 years later.

Where's the oversight board? They need to look into Raleigh Endocrine's operations.

I have been going there for years, and while I feel the care I receive from Dr Gamblin has been okay, the treatment from his staff has not. They do not return phone calls. They do not respond to requests from other doctors. They do not even respond to pharmacists for prescription refills! One pharmacist told me they are the worst practice they have to deal with as far as refills. The pharmacist told me they have to routinely send second requests and it can still take 2 weeks. That is ridiculous. They also do not call with test results. You have to hound them for weeks and you might get a response and you might not. I am definitely looking for a new doctor!

I have been trying to make an appointment for the last hour with Raleigh Endocrine Associates, specifically Dr. Weir, and that hour has been spent on hold with a machine telling me the call will be answered in the order it is received. Well if they are to busy to take a phone call and make an appointment, maybe just maybe, they are to busy for me to be a patient there!

I have been a diabetic patient of Dr. Becker's for 29 years, even before the practice began. He is an excellent doctor, very knowledgeable - I have been told by several health professionals that he's the best endocrinologist in the area - helpful and open to patient input and questions. That being said, the nurses and office staff is totally unacceptable. They are disorganized, non-responsive, unprofessional, constantly turning over and, if not untruthful, then certainly covering their backside in most situations.Calls to nurses are usually not returned for several (3-5) days, if returned at all. I most often have to leave a second message before I get a response, at which point I can ask my question. It usually takes at least 2 days before I get an answer, which is often confusing or does not even address my question. Even a simple request to send records to another doctor's office takes up to a week, if she understands my original request. Prescription refill requests which are sent by my pharmacy are not answered and require a second fax from the pharmacy and a call from me to the nurse before they are returned. And nurses constantly change. Other office staff are slow to even acknowledge your presence, most often because they are talking to other staff members or on the phone - usually not about medical matters. When they finally respond, they are less than friendly, if not unpleasant or downright rude. Waits for office appointments are lengthy and most times I am left sitting for an hour or more or until I go to the window and ask what the problem is. Then they suddenly have a room open and I am called back to wait some more for the doctor. And when you reach the point of calling the office manager to complain - voice mail, of course - the call is returned by the very staff member or nurse who was the problem originally. Also, requests for help with immediate serious medical problems are transferred not to a person but to voice mail, which says it will be responded to within 24-48 hours. Not only do they need more staff in certain areas, they need to improve or replace the people they have. This is the worst doctor's practice I have ever had the misfortune to deal with, and as a 40-year diabetic, I have seen a number of doctors. No one is as negligent and unresponsive as these people. For a long time, Raleigh Endocrine Associates was the only endocrinology practice in the area without going to Duke or Chapel Hill. Another practice has now opened in Raleigh. I can only expect to see frustrated REA patients leaving in droves now that they have a choice

I have seen Dr. Weir for treatment of Graves' disease for the past two years, and I have been very pleased. She listens well and takes reports of my symptoms into account rather than acting solely on the result of labwork. I told her early on that I would not get radioactive iodine treatment, and she respected that decision while still sharing her opinion that it was a good option.

As for the office operation, I agree about the TV's, but thankfully, I have never had to wait very long to see Dr. Weir; perhaps she and her nurse have a good system in place. (I do notice that the waiting room is always quite full.)

My visits to the lab have usually gone very quickly as well.

I find that my phone calls to Dr. Weir's nurse are returned the same day or the next day (my calls have not been about urgent matters). I get my lab results in the mail within about a week, generally.

While everyone on staff may not win a 'congeniality' award, I have not been treated rudely. The people handling checkout and appt. scheduling are always very friendly.

Just wanted to add in my own, more positive experience with this group....

I had ONE visit with this practice and I am not going back. The appointment was made by someone else, otherwise reading the reviews here I would gone elsewhere.

The first thing a patient has to endure is an always on, always audible T.V. with nothing but outright commercials and infomercial "health news". Subjecting a patient to this without their consent was outrageous. The staff refused to turn it off and would not even provide anything to block the noise out, like cotton balls (yes, I was that desperate to get relief from this thing). They were not as rude as listed here, but every bit as unco-operative nevertheless.

The doctor was also late. I arrived half an hour early for a first appointment as requested and I finally saw the doctor 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment. - that was 45 minutes of having to listen to that #@$ T.V and another 1/2 hour in the consulting room I was allowed to wait in after I threatened to leave when my appointment time was missed.

Dr. Berlin had not even read my chart or the lab results I'd faxed to his office. After I kept saying "Isn't that in the chart?", he actually did go over the paperwork briefly. He spent a lot of the visit explaining in scary detail how Graves disease works, irrelevant as mine had had occurred 10 years ago and nothing could be done about it at this point, and adopted a wait and see attitude towards the medication I'd been taking for a month without a specialist's supervision.

I would definitely recommend going somewhere else.

I've been waiting 2 weeks for blood test results that were promised to me over a week ago. I've called every number given (even the physicians direct line that he gave me) and have not gotten a live person yet. The office visit was fine - I anticipate waiting, especially for an afternoon appointment (I waited in the lobby for an hour). The physician (Dr. Berlin) was pleasant and seemed knowledgable, but I can't believe that no one cares about follow-up! What's the point of going?! Interestingly enough, they've already processed my insurance and billed me for the visit. I'm definitely NOT going back!

This office is so out of order that it is ridiculous. The front office is very rude and I actually saw Dr.Stall blow up at one of his nurses and request that they be fired immediately because she were taking too long in the rooms with patients. He definitely needs to rethink where he needs to be, a doctor or a pshycopath. This office is so unorganized, there is a new face everytime you go there, makes you wonder huh! You have people that walk around with uniforms that are too small or barely fit at all. How do I know I was an employee...

Rude Staff over crowded waiting room waited 2 hrs.
My file had none of the 20 some odd blood tests results that were ordered and pulled 4 weeks prior doctor had no idea where it was at and what to do.

Awesome medical care huh? No matter how good a doctor is he can't treat 100's of patients adequately
It doesn't get any better folks I routinely waited 2-3 hrs down at Duke Durham, although the staff was friendlier they were just as incompetent. Maybe it's time for me to go to Wake Med or Chapel Hill

Besides the fact that I waited over an hour, the doctor was COMPLETELY unprofessional, the front desk staff is very rude....I mean very rude. They slam the glass window in your face, and tell you to sign in without even looking at you!! I have been waiting on blood results for over three weeks. They have them.....they just won't return my call!!!

I would rather drive to Durham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Gamblin is one of the finest physicians I have ever met. I know of no other physician who places as much attention to the needs of each patient that he does. His nurse Ellen is super. They are always willing to answer questions and listen to the patient as a part of the care process.

I see Dr. Weir. I think she's great and her nurse is very nice. But the office is ALWAYS late. I wasn't late, but I get out 1.5 hrs after my appt time.

The recommendation by Vicky O. is not helpful as she doesn't identify herself as a patient, but an associate. We don't need insiders giving each other slaps on the back for work poorly done.

PROS: Good Doctor, Shawnee Weir
CONS: Office run poorly

For a week I repeatedly had to call the doctor's nurse who never returned my call. When I finally reached her directly, instead of having to leave her a voice message, she did not even know what I was calling about! Made me believe that she never checked her messages! Then when I asked her about the code for a medical supply, she told me that I had to get it frrom my primary care physician because "he is the one who follows (me)" for the particular drug I was on for which I needed the monitor (BP). Since I did not have the drug with me that day to simply look on the vial to see the doctor's name who prescribed the drug for me, I called the pharmacy to find out that the drug was in fact prescribed by the endo-, just as I tried to explain to this nurse. I felt like she was just brushing me off or assumed that the endo- was not the prescriber. How unprofessional and how scary it is to put your health in the hands of such non-compliant, people who do not want to take the time to call you back, look at your files, or even listen to your individual needs, especially since everybody's body is different and responds differently to meds, food, stress, etc. Oh yeah, they also called me up a week ago because I, for 6 months, had an appointment scheduled for Aug. 8, which was incorrectly posted. They called me a week before, as I was preparing for my visit, writing out my log, etc. and had to move it back another month.
What an unorganized place! A doctor is only as good as his/her help and staff. (Her former nurse was such a b- ...nevermind -too much to get into.) The lab didn't even have the correct sign-in sheet up, when I waited for over 20 minutes, finding that the sheet was from the day before and nobody even looked at it!

PROS: lab staff and dietician was friendly
CONS: non-compliant, rude, unorganized

Dr. Stall is the physician I am associted with. He has an excellent bedside manner and is a very knowledgable physician. The office personnel is quite friendly and professional and if you on time for your appointment, the wait time is ususlly at a minimum. If you or your family has any issues with thyroid disease or diabetes, Dr. Stall would be my reccommedation of choice.

I work in a Dr. office and I have made several calls to Raliegh Endocrine. The staff there is never helpful, and they never return calls in a timely manner. If you ever have to call them you sit on hold for ever. One time I was on hold for 45 minutes before being transferred to a voice-mail. I have had several patients complain that the staff is rude and unhelpful. I will say that the doctors there are the best in the area. They are helpful and caring, and they take time to learn and care about the patient. Unfortunately, this is over shawdowed by the awful service the office staff and nurses provide.

PROS: The doctors are good
CONS: The staff is unfriendly, rude. Excessive hold times when calling.
