Several years ago, I saw Dr. Ho for a severe crush injury to my bottom lip. He was eager to operate, but I thought it prudent to get a second opinion, and I am so glad that I did. I saw Dr. Scott Rotatori, a plastic surgeon, who advised against operating on my lip. He said that because of the pigmentation of the lip, and the nature of the tissue and my injury, I would be better off to let the injury heal naturally. Dr. Rotatori also informed me that operating on the lip might leave a worse scar than just leaving it alone and taking the time necessary to let it heal. He injected me twice with cortisone to bring down the swelling, and now, I have a tiny, almost imperceptible scar. The mark of a truly good surgeon is recognizing that there are times when surgery is not necessary, and indeed, contraindicated. While Dr. Ho may be a skilled surgeon, in my opinion, he was too eager to do surgery on me, and I am so grateful that I sought a second opinion.
