I was sent to Dr. Mavrakakis 4 months after and injury because the orthopedic doctor, who had the Nurse Practitioner treat me, said my MRI was clear. I was stuck in a position where I was bent over, knees were bent and my pelvis was to the left my upper body to the right. I walked with a cane and I hadn't slept a single minute since the injury. Dr. Mavrakakis, who is a pain specialist, not an orthopedic doctor immediately put me into pool therapy and on medication. Back injections came later with I could stand erect. I dislike taking medications so we discussed often what I took and she let me adjust the dosages as I needed it, but never more than allowed. Patients need to take an active part in their healing and understand they are as responsible for their health as the Physician. My injury was soft tissue and nerve damage which doesn't show on an MRI. The Ortho let me suffer for 4 months before sending me to Dr. Mav. If it were not for Dr. Mav, I would still be crippled. I work full duty, but will never recover. Sometimes you just have to accept pain as part of your life and move on.

My wife sought treatment here for a long time. Her conditions kept getting worse and they kept increasing pain medications. We were told that all the x-rays and mri's showed no problems. After finally seeking other options and going to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, we found the problems. (They were found using the same x-rays and MRI's that were reviewed by this Dr.) My wife suffered for over a year because of these "oversights" and had become addicted to pain medicine that was given that wasn't necessary.
