And I have one that is very different. Dr. Topps has been taking care of my three children since she joined Fall Hill Pediatrics. I have had nothing but good experiences with her, and we are frequent fliers. My middle child has Down syndrome and she has always been very proactive for him and his medical needs. She seems to know of or have worked with quite a few of the doctors at MCV and this has been very helpful, as we visit there quite often. She is very down to earth with me and listens to what I'm saying, and often asks ME what I think or what I would like to happen. I don't view this as someone who thinks they know everything and doesn't care what the parents think. In my opinion, she is the best doctor in that practice. It's not easy dealing with my two younger children sometimes, but she seems to take it all in stride, with a great sense of humor, I might add.
My son was hospitalized on a Friday at 6 days old for an unknown disorder. Dr. Topps was the doctor on call that weekend. On Sunday evening, when she came into the room he had an "episode" (as the doctors were calling it) and Dr. Topps panicked. She called a neonatalogist in and, AFTER hearing my husband say he was going home for an hour, informed me that my son would have to be transported to a nearby hospital. I said he needed to go to Georgetown University Hospital and she acted offended. She suggested that wouldn't transport there. She left the room to make some phone calls and the nurse suggested Fairfax Hospital so I went out and told the nursing station to tell the doctor that's where I wanted him to go. Thankfully, my husband walked back into the room at that point. He had decided not to go home. When Dr. Topps returned to the room, she acted kind of huffy like I shouldn't have spoken up. At that point, the neonatalogist walked in looking for a "blue" child. My son had never turned blue during any of his episodes. The neonatalogist knew my husband and urged us to transport him anywhere other than the hospital we were in.
