This is a review from Mr. Thomas Sugg of Fuquay Varina, NC. Dr. James McKenzie and staff are friendly and very knowledgable and skilled in routine dental care. I have had several crowns performed there along with routine cleanings over the last 5 years and so has my wife Amy. Dr. McKenzie does lecture patients somewhat if they have not been regularly flossing and effectively cleaning their teeth. However his intentions are to improve overall dental health for his patients through preventative measures. I feel that my overall dental health has improved over the last few years under his care and would recommend his office to other patients.

ALSO, same experience as the others who were told they had gum disease based on margin measurements which were taken very agressively and painfully btw. I thought dentistry was supposed to help you? Dr McKenzie is very judgemental and not interested in his clients unless they have perfect teeth like him. A poor example for dentists everywhere. Also, he was very rough with a crown he finished and did a poor job.

Dr. McKenzie replaced an old crown on my front tooth that had been there for over 30 years. It was very noticeable. The new crown looks exactly like my other front tooth. Now I can smile without worrying how my teeth look! The routine cleanings are comfortable, unlike cleanings I have had in the past. The staff is willing to work me into the schedule if I have any problems with my teeth. I feel Dr. McKenzie gives the best service of any dentist I have ever been to.

I have been seeing Dr. McKenzie for as many years as he's been practicing General Dentistry in the Fuquay-Varina area. I have had many dental problems in the past including periodontal problems, crowns and fillings. I have found him to be an exceptional dentist and his staff knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. During a time I was out of the area, I had another dentist compliment the work Dr. McKenzie had done. If you want a dentist who is meticulous and cares about the work he does, go see Dr. McKenzie and staff!! I recommend folks to go see him everyday!

I called Dr. J. S. McKenzie in a panic last summer because an old crown on my front tooth came off. Dr. McKenzie returned my call immediately and arranged for me to come to the office after hours so that he could recement the crown, it looked awful, which a dentist in another state had created for me when I fell and knocked most of my front tooth off.

I appreciated the time he spent with me and the information he gave me about my teeth. He told me that, unfortunately, I would probably need to have a new crown made. He was right. The old crown just wouldn't stay put! So, I had a great experience with Dr. McKenzie and he is now my dentist. He told me that my gums were fine, just to keep flossing and get my teeth cleaned every 6 months.

My family and I had a great experience. The staff was wonderful. My daughter had to have a filling and Dr.McKenzie was very patient and gentle with her. We are pleased to find this office after several unhappy experiences in the area.

I started going to Dr. McKenzie when I moved here two years ago, and although the staff has been friendly, I have never left feeling good about my visit. I have always had great visits, but every check-up w/Dr. McKenzie, I have been told something new needs to be taken care. Recently, I had to get a crown for a cracked tooth. Dr. McKenzie cut my tongue twice with the drill, so it was extremely painful to talk for 2 weeks - which was difficult because as a teacher, I have to be able to talk clearly for 8 hours a day. (And no, there was no compensation on the bill.) Furthermore, when I checked my bill, I was told there was an outstanding charge for a visit I'd made when I had to make a return visit to fix a filling that they had messed up. With so many choices for dentists in my area, I'm sure I can find one who will take care of my teeth better and isn't after what little money I have.

You can do better then use James McKenzie Dds I went to James McKenzie Dds on 6-24-09 for a routine cleaning, After a meer 5 minute probing his hygienist was alarmed at the depth of some of my gum pockets. She told me there is no way I could keep them clean. I explained to her that I have been using "Roto-Pic's" daily since 1997 when I had my gums deep cleaned and medicated and have no problems with my gums, no bleeding, easy cleaning etc. I further suggested she wait the 6 months till my next cleaning and she would find there would be no change in my gum pockets. At this point she stormed out of the room saying, "I'm getting the dentist." After 10 minutes Dr. McKenzie came in the room and said, 'You're giving my staff a hard time I hear." I again explained my dental history and care to him but it fell on deaf ears it seems as all he did was to looked over the entries the hygienist had made he then and stated, "You have sever gum disease and need to see a periodontist immediately. At no time did he look in my mouth and check my gums and teeth. I got up and politely told him that all I needed was to go back to my old dentist, and walked out of his office. I am 70 years old and have had just 2 extractions and 4 fillings in that time. I have good bone density and firm gums and very healthy teeth. It is all apparent that Dr. McKenzie and staff are more interested in bringing in the money then they are in listening to the patients. A little post script, I had a normal cleaning at my old dentist office 2 days later and there was absolutely no change on my gum pocket depth. Now isn't that strange ? M. J.

I had a great check-up! Dr. McKenzie and his staff were very friendly and caring. I have a fear of dentistry and they made me feel comfortable and at ease through my appointment. I would highly recommend this office to my family and friends.

I went into this dentists office for a simple check up. After x-rays and a quick check of my gums I was told some very troubling news. I was told that I had extreme bone loss and needed to get a bone density test. Also, my they stated that I had periodontal disease as well and that my mouth was not fit to be cleaned. I was referred to a periodontists as well. They would not clean my teeth until I had a process called scaling done by a periodontist. I left there in tears very concerned that my health was failing. Within the next month, I went to have my bone density test done which came back fine. They were shocked and said that I was the first 40 year old sent there due to a denist x-ray. Next I went to a different periodontist (not the one they referred me to) and they stated that I had no signs of periodontist disease (bleeding, swelling, sensitivity, etc.) Now, I was upset and asked the periodontist what to do because they refused to clean my teeth until I had scaling done. He told me that if he did scaling to my teeth that it would only damage my completely healthy gums. This wonderful periodontist is now cleaning my teeth, even though they specialize in people with gum diseases. Please beware when going to this dentist and notice the pamplets everywhere on periodontal disease.
