1. Earlier this year, Dr. Behm diagnosed my 76 year old mother-in-law with Parkinson's disease. He came to this conclusion, not with bloodwork, imaging or other testing, but because her hands shake occasionally and he literally bent her arm at the elbow and diagnosed her. Rather than refer her to a specialist, he prescribed an anti-Parkinson's medication which did nothing but make her nauseous. She sought out a second opinion from a neurologist and does not, in fact, have Parkinson's.

2. My mother-in-law is also a diabetic, and even though she sees an endocrinologist, he insists on managing her insulin medication. She went from an oral medication, to a insulin pen and then to two insulin pens. A recent visit to her endocrinologist showed that her insulin numbers were over 500.

3. Because of her high insulin numbers, my mother-in-law was admitted to the hospital to manage her diabetes. Dr. Behm was on call the weekend that she was in the hospital and was unavailable almost all weekend. Apparently one of his office staff did not turn off the phones correctly so the answering service was never forwarded any calls. My mother-in-law couldn't even get Tylenol for a headache because it wasn't ordered on her chart and Dr. Behm could not be reached to have him order it.

4. She was in the hospital for four days before her endocrinologist was called in to consult. Up to that point she was on a sliding scale of insulin and her diet was not restricted at all. She also has high blood pressure but it only took two days for the cardiologist to be called in. In both instances, it was my wife calling the office multiple times, asking, practically pleading and demanding, for the specialists to consult. The results of the consults were the endocrinologist adjusted her insulin and put her on a diabetic diet for the remaining time she was in the hospital and the cardiologist changed two of her medications completely.

Dr. Behm is a very kind man and a competant general practicioner. In the past he has been very attentive and helped our family out many times, but he needs to understand that he cannot and should not manage all aspects of his patients' medical issues. Unfortunately, with this most recent series of incidents, combined with some incidents with his office staff in the past, we will be seeking a new primary care physician.

I used to love Dr. Behm, I started going to his office because I felt he was more caring and attentive then most Docs. I am very sad to say I feel that has changed, his office now seems to be ruled by the almighty insurance companies too. He rarely sees a patient from my experience, he has a nurse practicioner who sees everyone who I did not care for at all. I had a relation with Dr. Behm and was comfortable with him, I think I should have been told I would no longer be seeing him. But it did not work that way one day I was seeing a stranger. At this point I am not even comfortable trying to get to know this NP so I will be looking for a new office all together. SO SO Sad I feel betrayed!

Wow.... I am really surprised at some of these reviews! I have been a patient of Dr. Behm's for 15 years and I recommend him and his office to everyone I know. Each person I have recommended his way - loves him!!

I have given birth to four children, had 6 surgeries, and a few others health issues - hence I have had experience with many many doctors. Not one compares with Dr. Behm in knowledge, concern, care, timeliness, etc. He has by far the BEST 'bed side manner' I have ever seen in a doctor. He truely cares for each of his patients and will do whatever it takes to help every individual.

His staff is knowledgable, kind and very personable. You are treated importantly at his office, not as just 'another patient'....

I would encourage anyone reading this to visit his office for yourself. Don't believe everything you read here about bad experiences. I really think you will be surprised at how wonderful this doctor is!!!!

My parents both worked for universities growing up and I never saw the same doctor twice. I now have my own insurance and before I moved to PA I loved my doctor. Dr Behm was recommend by my insurance company. I had a horrible experience! The following experiences contribute to my dislike.
1. The two times I went I never saw the doctor just the nurses.
2. I called prior to arriving to confirm they accepted my insurance and they said yes. However, I was not specific enough to ask if there lab accepts my insurance, which they do not. I found this out after receiving a bill.
3. Do you know if you make an appointment for a check up they make you signa waiver stating they have a right to charge you a second doctor's visit if there is something wrong? I had to sign the waiver.
4. Why even bother making an appointment because I did and stillhad to wait an hour and 45 minutes and it almost made me late to work.
5. Lastly, I received the bill from the office and had 2 charges for the flu vaccine and I obviously only had one vaccine. When I called to inquire about this I was given some blow off answer. I ended up paying it in the end.

I changed Primary Care Physicians because I was sick of wading through phone menus and trying all day to get to talk to somebody at our last doctor's office. The best thing about Dr. Behm's practice is they answer the phone in person! Sometimes on the first ring. They process prescription requests in less time that it takes me to drive to the pharmacy. They get you the basic Rx's when you need them without making you jump through hoops or come in for a stethescope listen and knee tap. When I've had a couple more serious or unusual things going on they've been very thorough and accomodating. Highly Recommended.

We've been patients of John Behm for almost 12 years. We've lived in many parts of the country and went to other doctors in the area before finding someone who actually looks at you-and refers to your chart. We recommend this practice to friends and family. He has treated all members of the family from age 5 through 75. His holistic approach is always welcome. We have found his willingness to work with us when discussing difficult treatments or health care decisions very helpful.

After reading these reviews I am surprised by the comments made. I have had my fair share of disagreements with John. And although we have agreed to disagree, I have not had any problems getting in to see him. If I need to see John, I get in. However, I do not run to the doc for each little thing. Presently, John wants me to see a psychiatrist and I do not want to go. After a good bit of discussion, with both of us listening and sharing our pros and cons, we have come to a consent agreement. But, you must listen as well as present your own evidence. A doctor has a license to practice and can only provide his knowledge based upon your information. His office staff is very knowledgeable and efficient. I would recommend John Behm to anyone. He meets and exceed my expectations as a physician...much better than my previous one. Try him, you might just find that his approach is just what you are looking for in a Family Practice.

I have always had the best and most thoughtful treatment at Dr. Behm's office. I am positively shocked at the negative reviews posted as I cannot possibly fathom that John Behm would alarm anyone with a hasty diagnosis or that the staff would not be accomodating. This is the best practice I've ever been to bar none.

Ok. First things first. It is a pain in the ass to see the Doctor. It used to be very easy but as the years roll by Dr. John gathers more and more patients. That is why it is getting tougher to schedule. Not because he sucks but because he is a very good doctor.
Sometimes I have encountered a less than cheery associate but that is life.
I wish the first reviewer could have named the doctor whose spouse was seen because I doubt he saw Dr. Behm, more likely a fill in.

Dr. John listens very well and is willing to be novel in his approach.
He takes his time and covers his bases.

I love the medical aides here. I have had my blood drawn numerous times and these folks are the best. I would drive a hundred miles to have my arm poked by Jennifer, Matt and the rest.
My children like this office and I do too.
Problem is so do a lot of people.

1. I was on a business trip when I came down with what felt like the TSS, called them from FL. The staff basically just tried to get me off the phone quickly. Out of desperation, I called OB/GYN although it has nothing to do with them. They returned my call immediately and was extremely caring and wonderful.

2. I broke my toe and they told me to get an X-ray. After bailing out an extremely important meeting, got my boss' approval and drove through heavy snow to get to the imaging place, I was told that they never sent the script!!!! I called their after-hour line to request a script; was told the on call doctor will call me in a minute. Two hours later, after not receiving the phone call, I called them back and was told that there is nothing they can do and I have to call them on Monday.

THEY WOULD NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!!!

Warm office very knowledgable staff and physicians. The Dr. is one of the most caring and knowledgable physicians I have encountered. His nurse practicioners are very well trained. The staff goes out of it's way to be helpful. I have never had a bad experience in his office. I had an injection in my knee by Dr. Behm and never felt a thing.

PROS: very professional

There are doctors out there who just aren't knowlegable, and this is one of them. My husband went to see him for some lumps he had under his skin. I usually go with my husband to see the doctor because I am the one who asks all the questions and such. Well, without running any tests whatsoever, he proceeded to tell my husband that he had a terminal illness. Even though I tried to explain to my husband that there is no way he could diagnose that based on no bloodwork and other diagnostic tests, my husband was completely stressed out by this doctor's idiocy. Luckily we went elsewhere, got the correct diagnosis and moved on to a better physician.
