Dr. Hurwitz was a god send! We have a son with HFA, and were getting no support from our last pediatrician. So I searched online for doctor who had a subspecialty with kids with disabilities and found Dr. Hurwitz. Once we set up an appointment for an initial consultation (very quick). We saw her. Her bed side manner and attentiveness to my childs needs was incredible. Any form that I need signed by her staff is sure to get it back the next day or even that day!!! Very huge difference from our other provider who take a week or more!!!If you have a child within the AUTISM SPECTRUM I highly recommend you switch to DR HURWITZ!!!!

This pediatrician was recommended by my OB/GYN and we love her! Only reason we're changing pediatricians after 6 years is because my husband's company now has Kaiser otherwise we'd still be going to Dr. Hurwitz!!

We moved back to Murrieta in the summer of 2010. My friends rave about Dr. Hurwitz and when I heard she was excepting new patients I called immediately. I brought my son (3 years old) in for the first time to treat his fever and cough, and within a few seconds (literally) of walking through the door, she asked if I had concerns about my son's behavior. I was stunned because I was also there to get a second opinion. I started crying like a baby, out of joy. MVUSD diagnosed my son with high-functioning autism, and she confirmed it for me. It was a hard pill to swallow, but she is reassuring. She then told me about her Autism outreach, and behavior techniques (which really works). I love the way she and her staff interacts with my son. They talk and treat him like a person, not a "special needs" child.
Yes, there are times when the ofc visits are quick, and there's a rude staff member, but we're all human, and we all have bad days, or make minor mistakes like a weight check.
Last week, I called at 4:00 bc my son had another fever/cough, and they squeezed me in at 4:30p. How many drs ofc will do that?

For those stating that Dr Hurwitz does not spend sufficient time, let me say this... I have been to her just a few times however, the first time, my husband and I had tons of questions. She started to walk out after the first question when I said " Can I ask another question?" She then stated "Please feel free to ask as many questions as needed. I sometimes get on a roll, knowing that your time is valuable so I try to get you in and out as quickly as possible, that is my personality, and so feel free to stop me and ask anything you need if you feel I am moving too quickly." So, please.. stop her if needed, she will answer any and all questions. It's better to ask and get the questions answered for the wellbeing of your children rather than leaving confused and upset. She truly is a great doctor. :)

I have been to this doctor a total of 4 times and each time I have waited at least 30 minutes before I see the doctor or physician assistant. I was very picky about my pediatrician, and after hearing such rave reviews of this doctor's service I happily signed my son up under her care. The office is so overbooked and overworked that the quality of service is horrible. After a long wait to see the PA, they spend a maximum of just a couple minutes. They forget to weigh or measure him in which case I have to say something to remind them. The RN's are very insensitive and it doesn't seem like they enjoy their job perhaps because they are so busy. As I make appointments the receptionists are callous and cold.
I believe this Doctor and her staff gave excellent service IN THE PAST. Now she has taken on too many patients to handle because in my opinion, she is looking at dollars and cents instead of Quality of Care. I am currently looking for another doctor. If you decide to use this doctor as your primary physician, please we warned.

They are 2 minute doctors. Her and her associates get you in, explain nothing, and then send you out with a prescription. They dont take the time to explain anything and they miss so much (like taking her temperature). Plus they have to ask me every time what meds they gave her last...uh shouldnt that be in her file? I have had to take my 2 year old in 3 times in the last 3 weeks and she is still sick. They act like they never seen us before either. She had to get chest x-rays today for this cough she has had for the last 3 weeks and yet they have not done the swab for the whooping cough thats going around. FYI there is no need to get x-rays for whooping cough. Also the office is dirty, leaks in the ceilings, and full of ants! I wont ever be back there after these experiences. Dont waste your time here if you care about your kid.

Doctor Hurwitz was my Doctor for 7 years, I was proud to say I went to her. I Knew Doctor Hurwitz before she became too busy . I have given her too many chances. There is no question that Doctor Hurwitz was at one time a very good Doctor and to some, still is, but in my opinion she is now too busy and is now mis diagnosing. If it wasn't for my inner voice saying this doesn't feel right, I would of had a very sick baby. My baby today was seen by another Doctor who had found out that my child had tonsilitous. My child could not swallow and was running a 101 temp for 2 days after seeing Hurwitz. Reason Hurwitz didnt see ? she never looked in his throat . My baby is 15 months old what if his tonsils would of touched and he wouldnt had been able to breath or something or maybe surgery. The main learning experience from this, When your Doctor gets to busy to take time to listen or fully exam your child, its time to look for another Doctor. I was told it was just an ear infection , and his droll was teething. My recomondation to Hurwitz take less patients.
I am sad and disapointed, but I can't take anymore chances.

Dr. Hurwitz is an angel straight from heaven!
I have struggled for years trying to find a great pediatrician for my son, who has High-Functioning Autism. I didn??t think there was any doctor who actually cared passed the diagnosis, however, Dr. Hurwitz did. She made my son feel at ease and warmly welcomed to her office. I literally had tears of joy when she spoke directly to him to say how wonderful he was. The exam went well and I immediately went home to tell all my friends in the area how fantastic this doctor is. If you are looking for a well qualified pediatrician who will go the extra mile for the health and well-being of your children--look no further.

She is truly an amazing pediatrician. I got a weird spider bite once and called her on a Saturday morning. She met me at the hospital and checked me out and gave me the medicine i needed. She is charismatic and very likeable. I enjoy my dr. appointments because she is such a positive person. I highly recommend her for anyone who wants a great pediatrician that truly cares about you.

Dr. Hurwitz saved our daughter's life. Our baby was born 2/20/09. Immediately she wasn't oxygenating and Dr. Hurwitz rushed to the hospital. She came to me in recovery and told me she was certain the baby had a heart problem and that she was life-flighting her to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. That day, our baby girl was diagnosed with TGA...a heart-defect requiring open-heart surgery. Our baby was 4 days old when they made the correction and was in the NICU a total of 2 weeks. Dr. Hurwitz follows up with us on a very regular basis. While she's very precautious, she assures us constantly that our daughter is a 'healthy, normal' little girl. If it wasn't for Dr. Hurwitz, she wouldn't have made it. Thank God we have such a world-class doctor in the Inland Empire!!! I would recommend this doctor to ANYONE.

There is no one like Dr Hurwitz, she's the BEST! She is like a family member to us. I can't imagine trusting anyone else with my children's health, it would be terrifying. I gave birth to my youngest son three weeks after we moved here & a nurse in the hospital discretely told me about Dr Hurwitz, I guess she wasn't really supposed to recommend a doctor. We were in her office within a couple of days & my husband & I fell in love with the kindness & professionalism she showed our baby & our other two children. This may sound odd but my kids began hugging her when they walked in the door. I think they think she's their aunt! Anyways, almost six years later & many, many office visits behind us, I am more thankful now than ever! I have heard a lot of horror stories from other moms & I used to be able to refer them to Dr Hurwitz but now she's just too booked! She can no longer accept new patients. Well, I guess the secrets out! Congratulations Dr Hurwitz on a successful & honorable practice.
God Bless,
Denise & Jeff Hodges

Humm,as I read these reviews dating back to 2007, I find most of the comments positive. Far be it from me to contradict ANY of the comments, good or bad; I would like to comment on a personal level to the level of care I have rcvd for my 4 children. I met Dr. Hurwitz in 1988 (we used to live in Los Angeles) after my son was born Dec 1987. Dr H became my oldest daughters pediatrician in April 1992 @ birth. My next daughter, born Dec 1993, became ill; NO ONE could find what was wrong with her. Numerous appts. w/ no answers & diff meds had me ready to kill someone! After being up all night holding her head up so she wouldn't choke on her vomit, I trudged 1 more time to urg care & literally threatened the nurse. I did NOT care that it was Sat, I wanted her med records NOW. A Dr came in & said HONESTLY (for 1st time), she did NOT know what was wrong & due to being so sick for over A YEAR, she admitted her to the hospital. There 4 about 2 weeks, then Dr. Hurwitz walks in, says to pack up whatever I had, get someone to pick up my car (leave the keys w/ her) to go by ambulance to CHOC (Orange County). She'd called, spoken to the infectious disease specialist & a room was waiting 4 my daughter. She stated that non one, including herself, could explain what was wrong w/ my daughter & she needed a specialist. My daughter was 1 yr 11 months. We lived on & off @ CHOC for years until my daughter turned 11 yrs old & finally something surfaced. During this time, Dr. H continued to see her, call us at home & @ the hospital; also conferring w/ physicians @ CHOC. I only had to call Dr. H & she would tell me to drive to CHOC & she'd handle everything; including battles w/ insurance for procedures she "as the doctor w/ the medical degree along w/ those at CHOC deemed necessary" & to "get off their butts & approve the damn tests!" I found this out from staff...I'm not telling who! When Dr. H left Friendly Hills to move to Temecula, we saw Dr. Bhargava, who is good friends w/ Dr. H & also Dr. Gutrecht (rated #1 in Tustin). Both were terrific, however, when we told Dr. Bhargava we were moving, she told us to look up Dr. H. I went to the office, picked up paperwork & when we showed up for the 1st appt in 2006 (girls 14 & 12.5 yrs). Dr. H happen to be in the hallway & seeung us she said, "I know you...but can't place the name. Where have I seen you before?" We told her Friendly Hills & my younger daughter's name; she was surprised & so excited to see her WELL. When she entered our exam room she was more than friendly, told my girls she's known them since birth (so true), & asked them about how they were: life, school, boys (not going to happen until 16 - NOT to encourage them!). She laughed & was so gracious, personable, friendly & professional. I have since had issues w/ ADHD & mood disorder w/ my youngest son & she has even battled w/ his schools to get him services & COMPASSION he needs to function well (he is a distracted straight A student but struggles with attention - schools are NOT compassionate!). W/ over 21 years experience w/ Dr. H, I can honestly speak more than highly of her. Many of her staff moved w/ her from Friendly Hills & perhaps because I've known them for a while, I find them to be more than friendly ALWAYS. If, & I'm not going to say it hasn't happened, their staff (the younger crew) is distracted or inattentive, I do not hesitate to bring it up. So if a person has a concern & does not bring it to the attention of the DOCTOR who is ultimately responsible for her office staff, who else is to blame but the patient (parents in this case)? I love her PA & if I want confirmation, I don't hesitate to ask the PA to confer w/ Dr. H & it's done w/o hurt feelings or rudeness. Waiting time; sometimes but not always. Worth it, definitely. Does Dr. H ever have a bad day? Well let me see...is she HUMAN? Of course, but don't we all have bad days. She is harried at times, but will take time w/ you if you are persistent & open your mouth to express your concern to her "bedside manner" if it seems curt or short. Overall, I wouldn't see anyone else & my girls are petrified that they will have to seek out a new physician once they turn 18. Currently I am struggling to find a personal physician for myself & know for a fact that one does not exist for me w/ caliber of care, attentiveness & professionalism as that of Dr. H. If I've had a moment of dissatisfaction, & I won't lie, there have been a few, I speak my mind; WE DISCUSS it & the air is cleared on BOTH SIDES! She has NEVER been rude to me or my children! I pray she continues to have the thriving practice she ENJOYS until such time she has had enough....as we all do with our jobs, professions, & in life. We love you, Dr. Hurwitz, The Butlers: Aubrye, Aryle, Paxton, & Jesse (22 this year - YIKES!) Dr. H, we're getting old...at least I am!

So far, all of the posts here are from Moms. I'll be the first Dad to offer a review. Prior to Dr. Hurwitz, my only experience with doctors came from Navy medicine while I served 22 years in the Marine Corps. Also, my wife is a nurse and her father is a wonderful pediatrician in the SF Bay area. The bottom line is there is no one like Dr. Hurwitz. No one. Her care is like that of the country, small town doctor, who actually knows her patients and actually cares for them. On our first visit, she told my wife and I, "...and if it's 2 in the morning and she's sick, you're going to call me at home." We love her very direct approach--how she tells us exactly what's going to happen. She;s been our 15 month old's pediatrician from her first day. Now, regarding the negative post, below. I cannot see how that could have ever happened, but I respect the opinion. On two occasions, we saw Dr. Hurwitz while my father in law was staying at our home. Guess what? He gave the same diagnosis.I called the office on Friday, July 3rd, about our daughter's ability to manufacture ear infections. Dr. Hurwitz answered the phone herself, identified herself, asked me to hold on "just a sec", while she finished with someone she had on her other ear, "...OK, as long as the baby is eating and doesn't have a temp.", and then back to me. Our question was not emergent and she told us that if we were concerned, she would be in her office at 1000 on Sunday to do some paperwork and we were welcome to come by and she would look at our daughter.Come on, where else would you get this service AND genuine care? You won't. Lastly, our oldest daughter is 18 and wants to be a pediatrician. Dr. Hurwitz has invited her to tag along with her for a day to see what it's all about. She is, simply, the best.

So far, all of the posts here are from Moms. I'll be the first Dad to offer a review. Prior to Dr. Hurwitz, my only experience with doctors came from Navy medicine while I served 22 years in the Marine Corps. I just love he Dr. Hurwitz. She is an exceptional doctor. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and never shoves me out the door. She has been my childrens doctor for over 4 years and I recommend her highly. I love that she always is able to see my kids when they really need to be fit in.Ask yourself when is the last time a doctor gave you their cell phone number and doesn't mind if you use it.

Dr. Hurwitz will see you same day if necessary. She will answer her phone on weekends. She is the best. The office staff is efficient also. I wish she treated adults!

My son has been at patient of hers for the last 14 months and what a blessed 14 months it has been. Here is some information for you.

She will get you in the same day to see your sick child.

Her office runs smooth and is well organized.

She answers her phone after hours(twice I have called her on a Friday and Saturday night after 9pm). expresses concern, tells you what to monitor and to call her back if its not remedied.

She has seen my baby when he had a cold on a Saturday morning along with about 6 other parents who were waiting...

She is that good. Easy to get an appointment, and they are flexible.

She is empathtic and caring. I hope I have the opportunity to keep my son there until he no longer needs a pediatrician.

Simply the Best

I agree that she is easily accessible..and I also agree that is she is a strong advocate for children with Autism and DD. But, I do feel that she is an extremist...she once told me that my baby could have an ear infection or could have a brain tumor. I understand that medicine is really walking a fine line and u cant be too careful..but I think this was a bit extreme. I am confident that she would find an issue and send you to the right place. I do think that Ped partners has some better drs....there are actually a few good ones, if you can get in. They see so many HMOs that you have to wait months for a well check. Bottom line, the healthcare in this area is sub standard. My Dr. who is a Dr. feels that way as well. So, if you have any real issue, pack up that mini van and head on off to Sd or OC.

My kids are new patients of hers, but in the month they have been, she and her PA have given them both more attention than they have got over the past few years with their previous doctor. This past weekend my older son was sick and when I called to check the recording on which Urgent Care to go to, the PA acutually answered, she rocks just as much as Dr Hurwitz. I really am positive this was the best move for my kids. I fully reccommend Dr Hurwitz's practice to anyone in the area, and am sure if I moved within driving distance I'd still bring them to her. :)

I have to admit that when I first met Dr. Hurwitz I was a little put off. She was the Dr. on call when I gave birth to my fourth child. After a long night of trying to breastfeed and a crying baby, I had finally gotten my baby to go to sleep. It wasn't five minutes later that Dr. Hurwitz came in and said she needed to see the baby. I told her I had just put her to sleep. She said "no worries I'll bring her back sleeping". I started crying thinking I was in for more hours of crying. When she brought the baby back in though she was fast asleep in her bed. Over the past year and a half she has always been quick to call or respond with any illness or concern. I have since changed all four of my children to her office. She is not only wonderful with babies but took extra time to talk with my teen about special concerns that affect her. She is quick but you never feel like she left anything out, she makes her patients feel like a part of the family. If you need a good doctor call her!!!

My daughter was having a problem that required a specialist. Someone gave me Kathleen Hurwitz's number. Although I had an appt with our regular Ped that afternoon, I thought I'd give Kathleen a try since she was able to take us that morning and it only takes 10 minutes to get to her office - an hour to get to our regular Ped. So besides the fact that the woman on the phone brought us in immediately, I found the office, once there ran smoother than I would have expected. The waiting room was packed! I panicked at first and thought for sure we'd be waiting a long time. I don't know how they did it but although packed, we were seen on time and in order. Once with Dr. Hurwitz, I was thrilled at her quick diagnosis (of course happy that we were also on the same page) and confident in her treatment recommendation for my daughter. She told us what we needed to do, we did it and my daughter has been 150% better since we saw her. This after years of suffering. So, yea, I'm pretty happy! She is not our regular Ped. so I don't know what she is like day in and day out. But we saw her two days in a row, got a phone call from her personally early one morning over a concern she had with our x-ray and asked that we come right in. Both visits she was great - bedside manner wise/knowledge wise, etc.. plus to give out her personal number and say you can call 24/7 was more than I would ever expect from any Dr. We'd see her again for sure if needed.

I have been trying to locate our wonderful peditrician who moved out of our area several years ago. I was hopeful that she might still be close enough...Murrieta is too far to go from Orange County...what a disappointment!

I ran across this rating blog & simply had to enter mine!

Shortly after adopting our son I asked a friend who's husband was a doctor who she took her children to. This is how I found myself at her office with my son. She was a god-send!

She did not hesitate to refer us (and fight with the insurance as well) to 5 specialists. It's because of her agressive treatment & referral program that my son is thriving and doing very well. Without her dedication things could have turned out quite different!

She also came to an IEP (which she didn't get paid for) simply to be an advocate for my son. It's the direct result of her appearance there that we can thank for my son received desperately needed services.

Quite contrary to the awful posting...your children would be in the best pair of hands by taking them to see her~!

I haave to disagree with the other reviewer, this office is not run like a free clinic at all. I have worked in the health field for many years so I got a good background on area physicians.
Often when you call the office Dr. Hurwitz herself will pick up the phone. She never hesitates to let you know you can call her on any day, all hours and she'll be there to help out your little one.
She has hurdles through the system for her patients, getting authorization for much needed tests and will quickly refer you to a specialist. No HMO type hemming around. If your little one needs extra added attention that she can't provide she'll quickly work to get them the referral that they need.
I so thankful to have found her.

I moved here from LA and had an excellent ped. there... I had no choice but to find another here. People had recommended Dr. Hurwitz, why? I have no idea. Twice she mis-diagnosed my son. The 1st time she said he had the worst ear infection she had ever seen... that same night my husband and I took our son to the ER. Two different physicians checked his ears... said they were clear as day. Again, yesterday she said he had a double ear infection, prescribed meds as well as a chamber and inhaler... took him for a 2nd opinion... just what I had suspected... clear ears and a clear chest. She prescribed him meds as well as an inhaler with a chamber... completely unnecessary. HER PRACTICE IS RUN LIKE A FREE CLINIC ~ DO NOT TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN TO THIS DOCTOR!!!!
